Publisher's Summary

Two women, centuries apart, are joined through a tattered journal as they contend with God, husbands, and even themselves...until they fall into the arms of the One who loves them unconditionally.

Sierra Madrid's life has just been turned upside down when she discovers the handcrafted quilt and journal of her ancestor Mary Kathryn McMurray, a young woman who was uprooted from her home only to endure harsh conditions on the Oregon Trail. Though the women are separated by time and circumstance, Sierra discovers that many of the issues they face are remarkably similar. By following Mary Kathryn's example, Sierra learns to surrender to God?s sovereignty and unconditional love.

"Easy Listen but not great story"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

probably not, it wasn't that enjoyable of a book

Has The Scarlet Thread turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no

    Any additional comments?

This was an easy no-brainer listen but it wasn't that enjoyable. The way it jumped back to the 1800s with Mary Katherine story didn't make sense. The transition was very choppy and just didn't work for me. I know it was 1800 education and all but it was painful listening to bad English for that portion. The modern day story line was fine listening to but I just wasn't rooting for either one of the characters, they were both rather annoying and childish. I didn't want the happy ending on this one.

    Story
"Not as good as the rest"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I don't think that the story was developed enough, there was a lot of holes

If you’ve listened to books by Francine Rivers before, how does this one compare?

I have listened to Redeeming Love and Mark of the Lion; this book is not nearly as captivating or developed

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Alex should have done a lot more to win her back!

    "Highly Enjoyed. Great Listen/Read"

Beautifully written and most inspiring. I ached in both body and soul for these people, as well as felt their joy and elation. I will definitely read/listen to again! Wonderful Narrative.

"Two stories for the price of one"
Would you listen to The Scarlet Thread again? Why?

I will defiantly listen to this book again. I saw there where two narrators but little did I know how wonderful this was going to be. Alma Cuervo was great. She made me laugh so many times. I loved her, she wasn't just reading a story, she was delivering the story. Rivers wrote the character well and Alma became her.

What other book might you compare The Scarlet Thread to and why?

The Prayer Box and the Story Keeper.

Have you listened to any of Angela Rogers and Alma Cuervo ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I really will look for them again.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

My heart broke along the rugged trail Alma Cuervo read for. Rivers brought to life what it must of truly been like to have come across country in a covered wagon.

    Any additional comments?

I liked the flipping from story to story. I'd found myself frustrated by the flipping point because I'd be sitting on the edge of my seat then Rivers would flip the story. I loved it.

    "Thought provoking"

I really enjoy this story which was had more depth being narrated by two different people. I liked that the two character stories paralleled despite the decades of time between their existence, and that the parallels had to be thought about they weren't so similar as to be sappy. There were many good lessons in this book as well.

"A beautifully written story of life and love."

The two intertwined stories of Mary-Katherine and Sierra touches so many real life issues. It inspires and makes the reader look deep inside your own soul, to find that the only way a marriage can work is when Jesus is at the centre of it all.
    Such a beautiful love story

    Story
    "Painful"

I have found this a very painful book to listen to.
    My second marriage is crumbling.
I relate to so many aspects of many of the characters and storylinesboyh male and female.

I feel so ashamed of so many aspects of myself and my life.
An abused child, serious acute Snd chronic mental health illnesses and suffering the stigma and judgement added on top of it. Having thought I was doing ok I find I am in a mess again in my life.
I have always known of God and I do believe He has been with me throughout BUT I only gave my life to Jesus in 2006 but still feel that I am missing the point somehow.
I feel I am being punished, that I am at fault, with all the human damaging character defects of stubbornness and pride, resentment and bitterness and control but also deep confusion as I heard in this.
No one in my life has ever admitted the abuse I went through and there has never been any justice or apology of what happened to me.
I have worked so hard with the Lord and others and
I feel I have forgiven and repented and was healed - I have deep compassion and love in my heart for all those who hurt me but now with the mess of my second marriage the hell stirred up again in a different disguise. Or is it the madness of my mind or my MH that confuses my soul and deceives my spirit.
This story has stirred up so much and I have cried and pleaded with God to hear Him clearly. To feel the love that Sierra feels from Jesus as her Saviour and a reconciliation and redemption of me, my life and my marriage. Or am I to continue to suffer until I have learnt a lesson I cannot see. How many rock bottoms do I need to reach a clarity where I am going wrong and how to put it right. Every which way I turn I seem to be blind and deaf.
I share a snippet of my story and maybe The Scarlet Thread is part of my teaching as maybe Lineage of Grace and Redeeming Love - all of which have 'happy endings' in love with Christ and husbands.

Maybe I don't have enough faith, or read my bible enough or whatever maybe Francine
Rivers could help me write my book with this clarity in the conclusion or maybe I will not see it until I meet my maker.

Thank you Francine Rivera. You have stirred up my soul and I trust the Lord has spoken through this and your others books. Scriptures, storylines anything to enable me to hear what I need to hear and put it to work in my own life.
    God willing.
    😇🙏🏼💗
