Publisher's Summary

Twenty years ago, a terrible tragedy shattered the tranquility of the small Pennsylvania Dutch town of Reflection. The residents of the village have never forgiven the one woman they blamed for what happened - Rachel Huber. After the incident, Rachel left the town and cut off all ties there. But when Rachel receives the news that her estranged grandmother, Helen, is ill and needs her care, she returns to Reflection.

On arrival she discovers that the town has not forgotten the past, and, among the hostility and gossip, Rachel is forced to seek out old allies and new passions. Soon she finds an unlikely advocate in her grandmother, who surprises her with her wise counsel and rare strength. Rachel comes to realize that they are both trying to overcome the past, and in doing so they bring private guilt and concealed secrets into the light.

How did I ever miss this book!!

I have read Diane Chamberlin since the beginning of her career! What an excellent story Reflections is!! Diane is such a crafty story teller telling the story of Rachel who hadn't seen her Grandmother since she was a young teenager & not wanting to impose on her life when she struck by lightening! What truths they both learned about the past years sets them both free!!

Would. you just do it already...Or not whatever .

This was a really good story line and it kept me engaged. The ending wrap up was really good. The side stories where even good. However, the constant conversation between the 2 main characters had me screaming "not again. holy shit." Way too much time was devoted to should we ? no well maybe no. If you can hold on and not be annoyed by these two characters and the constant struggle (which should not have been a struggle) this is a great book.

Interesting Twist

Overall, this was an enjoyable read/listen. I don't think I have ever read any Diane Chamberlain books before and not sure, but I guess they are faith/religious related as this book had that theme running through it. Interesting twist to the outcome of a terrible community tragedy. Enjoyable however there were some liberties that the author appeared to take regarding the Pennsylvania location that weren't exactly correct and I didn't really believe that this main character never took either of her husbands last names which of course would have changed the storyline. But all in all a good read.

Meh..

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Diane Chamberlain’s books but this one just didn’t do anything for me. It wasn’t terrible but it by far wasn’t great either. Just kind of blah.. :(

Yuck!

Spoiler Alert!

My first review and I have been listening to books for 5 years. I was very disappointed, some of my favorite books have been by Diane Chamberlain. I didn't finish it once I realized what Michael's decision was...he seemed to think that God just wants him to be happy and to be happy he needs to leave his wife and son...definitely not a love story and the mystery was very far-fetched.

I love Chamberlain, but this was awful!

Spoiler alert: Gram gets struck by lightning, estranged Granddaughter rushed to her aid after leaving years ago to spend the entire book chasing a married, reverend whom she was best friends with growing up. Throw in the menodite community fighting the English over land, oh and don’t forget to add a creepy woman in the woods living on the land that really belongs to gran and Rachel being shunned by the community due to school bombing at the hands of her ex-husband/ former Vietnam Vet suffering from PTSD and you have a book that is slow, doesn’t do justice to any of the themes presented, and is as scattered as this review reads.

Intriguing and emotion-provoking storyline

This was a great book. It held my interest and made me think about the characters when I wasn't listening to it. Even the seemingly unimportant details came together in the end. And anything narrated by Erin Bennett is a pleasure to listen to. I didn't agree with some of Rachel's actions and got a little upset, but then I realized I was just like the townspeople who were judging her!

One of the small things that set this book apart from others was the "laid back" wording used, that made it seem more natural, which of course Erin made come to life. I highly recommend this audio book!

A Small Town Love Story

I enjoyed the quaintness of this story located in Amish country in Pennsylvania. There was some heartbreak and twists as always provided by Diane Chamberlain. My favorite character was Grandma Helen. I don’t think Reflection was a dynamic story as some other stories by Ms. Chamberlain. Reflection is a somber, thought provoking story with some life decisions that are tough to make. I would recommend this book if you want to enjoy a quiet and heartfelt book.
