Publisher's summary

A thriving bakery. A lighthouse to call home. A handsome beekeeper. A pet puffin. These are the things that Polly Waterford can call her own. This is the beautiful life she leads on a tiny island off the southern coast of England. But clouds are gathering on the horizon. A stranger threatens to ruin Polly's business. Her beloved boyfriend seems to be leading a secret life. And the arrival of a newcomer - a bereft widow desperately searching for a fresh start - forces Polly to reconsider the choices she's made, even as she tries to help her new friend through grief. Unpredictable and unforgettable, this delightful novel will make you laugh, cry, and long for a lighthouse of your own.

I Absolutely love Jenny Colgen!!!

Jenny Colgen does it again. I laughed, cried, and even found myself screaming out loud at the characters and some of the bonehead things they did. At times was sitting on the edge of my seat, dying to find out what happens next.

Charming Cornwall story marred by Southern accent

Any additional comments?

I love the charming, light-hearted and humorous story that Jenny Colgan created in this Little Beach Street series including this book. The narrator of this book, Alison Larkin, is a different one than the first book, Vieda Dehmlow. Ms. Alison Larkin does an overall good job of narrating, mostly, and portraying the various local accents (as far as I can tell) but her attempt at a Southeastern American accent for Huck and his brother is horrible. They both sounds like some twisted characters from Twin Peaks or something - a cartoon trying to make them look as stupid as possible. It was grating to hear their dialogue, although the rest of the book was great and the only reason I listened to the end. Bring back Ms. Dehmlow please, if there are any new books in this series in future.

Cute story

Story is really good. Change in narration was uncomfortable at first, but I grew accustomed to it. Looking forward to book 3. Honestly kept wanting dead fisherman to be found. Oh well.

Different Narrator

Beware if you listened to the first book...this is not the same narrator. I was extremely disappointed to find the quality of the narration lacking. The character voices in the first book were distinctive and well done. This narrator did a horrible job especially with the characters of Huck and Rubin who are supposed to have a Southern US accent. At times the different accents weren't even the same. I loved listening to the first book, and I was excited to hear more of the story. It was painful to even try to listen to the second audio book, and it really took away from the story.

Great Jenny Colgan storyline

Story was great, though I wondered initially why Polly didn’t take the oven Ruben bought her but the story was excellent. Narrator not so much. Good on women’s voices, horrible on men’s. Especially on the American who was from around Atlanta but sounded alternately like he was from Texas or New York. Made the story much less enjoyable. She should stick to British female characters.
