Publisher's summary

Rosie Hopkins thinks leaving her busy London life, and her boyfriend Gerard, to sort out her elderly Aunt Lilian's sweetshop in a small country village is going to be dull. Boy, is she wrong.

Rosie's life is...comfortable. And even though she might like to pursue a more rewarding career, and Gerard doesn't seem to have any plans to propose, Rosie's not complaining. Things could be worse. Right?

Lilian Hopkins has spent her life running Lipton's sweetshop, through wartime and family feuds. When her great-niece Rosie arrives to help her with the shop, Lilian struggles with the idea that it might finally be time to settle up, and wrestles with the secret history hidden behind the jars of beautifully colored sweets.

But as Rosie gets Lilian back on her feet, breathes a new life into the candy shop, and gets to know the mysterious and solitary Stephen - whose family seems to own the entire town - she starts to think that settling for what's comfortable might not be so great after all.

Lovely story weaver

I have read several of Ms. Colgan’s books. They are entertaining and have very interesting characters. Definitely a “feel good” read. They are my reward for walking the dog in the woods every morning, a true guilty pleasure.

A very sweet story! ;)

In this genre, you often find stories to be formulaic and predictable. This one is neither and is so refreshing that way. Colgan has a talent for rich and intriguing characters, and this book is no exception! It’s a multi-dimensional story with relatable people. A delight!

A Cozy Afternoon Listen

This was a fun book to listen to. It took me a bit to realize it followed two related women back and forth through the years. When I did I fell in love with both of them and followed their stories down thru the years to the bringing them together in the present.

Good so far

As is usual, Jenny Colgan delivers another good story. I would say that just about every book of hers I have read I had a hard time getting into the first 2 chapters but then I'm hooked - don't know why. I am not finished with the book, but so far it delivers. However, once again it's the narrator! I don't love the narrator's voice and am especially put off (once again as with other narrators) with her trying to sound like a man for the male characters in the book. She sounds AWFUL and nasally and they all sound the same. Uggh. I wish narrators would stop doing this unless they are masters at impersonation. Jenny, find better narrators for your books.

These books are rollercoasters of emotions

Great character building and story, but endings are too short! I want details on the future and what happens to them!
