Publisher's Summary

Perfect for couples struggling with resentment and confusion.

A damaged man is incapable of love because he does not believe love will be freely given, only earned through works. He seeks false intimacy in lust and mistakes sex for acceptance. These men seek insecure women who believe themselves unlovable and who use sex to earn approval.

When these couples enter into marriage, unmet needs and secret expectations pile up until the relationship is full of festering resentment. Along come children who add greater urgency to fixing the emotional damage. But with no hope in sight, what can the couples do except march toward inevitable divorce?

Licensed marriage and family therapist Adam Lane Smith walks couples through explanations and solutions to these problems. This short and simple book is designed to give couples the skills they need to repair a resentful and empty marriage. Through simple techniques, committed couples can alter their perspective, climb out of their trenches, and learn to work together in an intimate partnership.

Short, sense, challenged... Go!

Narrator was creative, and the book eye opening, encouraging and challenging. I will be Sharing with a lot of people that I relate with the detached individual.

Must Listen Or Your Marriage May Suffer

First of all, I was hooked from the title. I had been struggling to find an audio book that met my marital issues and needs. I kept finding books on divorce, forgiving affairs, domestic abuse, substance abuse, alcoholic spouse, and low self esteem.

I just needed a book on husbands who struggle with insecurities, don't understand their wife's emotions, and are panicked once the wife wants to quit. I want to understand why this is such a common trait amongst husbands. Why is it that when the wife is tired and wants to quit does that jump start the husband to savior mode? Why doesn't the husband pay attention to the signs of a distressed wife? The wife wanting to end the marriage is sudden to most husbands. Therefore, bewildered husbands!

This definitely gave me another perspective on why the common husband is bewildered when the wife is exhausted with marriage.

Insightful

Heard about this book on The Mikhaila Peterson Podcast. I gained some very useful information from this book. It really helps you see things from your partner’s point of view. I actually found this book much more helpful than the book that the author recommends at the end, No More Mr Nice Guy. It seems to be written for a very specific type of man that I cannot relate to.

Educational

Whilst my own marriage is fine, this book got me thinking of ways to improve my behaviour. Ledford does a great job too. Even though the book is non fiction, the voices she gives thr couples involved gives the audiobook a bit of spice I liked.
