Publisher's summary

When dark forces rise, are faith and firepower enough?

On the eve of his medical retirement, Navy SEAL Jedidiah Johnson receives a frantic call from his estranged childhood best friend, David Yarnell. David’s daughter has been kidnapped off the streets of Nashville in broad daylight. The police have no suspects and no leads. The only clue: the body of a dead priest left behind at the scene. With the clock ticking, David is growing desperate, as is his wife, Rachel...Jed’s first love.

Despite his painful history with David and Rachel, Jed agrees to help. But he’s spent his career as a door-kicking Navy SEAL, not an investigator. His presence immediately draws unwanted attention, creates friction with the local police, and triggers a mysterious attempt on his life. Just when he thinks things can’t get worse, it starts to happen again - the voices in his head, the nightmares, the visions. Dark memories and strange abilities, things he believed he’d left behind when he fled Nashville for the Navy at 18, begin to resurface.

Jed realizes that to save the missing girl, he must take a leap of faith and embrace the gifts he’s denied for all these years. To foil this dark intercept, he’ll need more than just his years as a SEAL operator, because he has no choice now but to take up arms and join the battle in the unseen spiritual warfare raging all around him. And there is far more at stake than just a missing girl: The world is not the place he thought it was - and he is not alone.

Follow the military heroes of the Shepherds series as they bring the power of light into the dark mystery of Sara Beth’s abduction.

Refreshingly different!

Truly enjoy this book start to finish! The authors really know how to capture the reader attention! I am a big fan of their other works, but found this to be even better. The narrator was very talented, 1st I heard of his. I can’t wait for the next installment.

Interesting Concept

This angelic girl needed a much better team of angel seals even to protect her for one day. Come on how many times do they have to try before they give her some real protection. Can’t read more books in this series.

Modern day "This Present Darkness"

Not since Frank Peretti's "This Present Darkness" have I been so excited about a spiritual warfare book. The Audio version was amazing. Hope to see more coming soon.

HMM

Huge fan of the Tier 1 series, waiting on the next drop as we speak. Really wasn’t sure what to think of this series the first few chapters then it just clicked what an amazing series. I’ve already downloaded two and three. Hopefully there’s a four to follow. Keep up the great work guys.

WHY Did I Wait So Long to Read This??

I love this new breed of novels that isn't afraid to have characters displaying positive faith. For years, this type of read was banished to the Christian Fiction genre where it languished. Probably because most people, even people of faith, don't think they'll enjoy a novel that's listed as such. But this series, along with Charles Martin's exceptional books, are breaking the boundaries wide open and showing that a character can have faith and still be fascinating. Tough concept.

Enter Jedidiah Johnson, recently retired Navy SEAL, currently at odds with his new status. A phone call out of the blue from his childhood best friend sets him on an unexpected path. The friends lost touch when Jed joined the Navy and never looked back. He never wanted to. His former best friend fell in love with Jed's high school sweetheart. There was nothing more for them to discuss-- time to go. But when their daughter is kidnapped, the only person they can think of to turn to is their former friend, Jed.

The conflict is pretty easy to see here: why would he want to help the two people that broke his heart? In addition, his adult life has been spent carrying weapons and kicking down doors, not acting as a private investigator. Oh, one more thing... the local police don't want his help. This should be a hard no. But who can turn their back on a girl who's been kidnapped?

The characters here are top-notch. They're richly developed, engaging, and diverse. Jedidiah fights his emotions as he's fought almost everything since adulthood. He's struggling with past history, local authorities, his private demons, and a seriously bad cop. He doesn't yet realize he's also fighting powers he cannot see, doesn't believe exist, and he's not prepared for. Hard to win a fight that way. But SEALs just generally don't have any "quit" in them.

The storyline is superb, with plenty of action and suspense moving at a juggernaut pace. It's hard to know who to trust, and harder still to know how to fight this enemy. Fans of the decades-old "This Present Darkness" books will find this story to be similar in nature but updated and more intriguing. Readers of Charles Martin's stories will likely find a winner here as well. This is a must-read for those who enjoy suspense, para-military stories, thrillers, or the supernatural. After all, these authors are well-known and well-respected for a reason.

I, personally, can't wait for more!

Powerful Read

The author mixed a fast paced action story with classic good vs evil. Great read.

Out there…

After reading Tier One and John Dempsey books, this was quite a change. Expected more and didn’t get close until the end. Interested to see if the next book shows a more stable Jedediah Johnson and less kids…
