Go Behind the Scenes of Brutally Honest

0:00

Publisher's Summary

Please note that this audiobook contains explicit language and content some listeners may find distressing.

The memoir from the real woman behind the leopard print, for real women everywhere.

As one-fifth of the iconic Spice Girls and judge on X Factor and America's Got Talent, Melanie Brown, aka Scary Spice, has been an international star since the age of 19. And yet there are sides of Mel that no one has ever seen or really known.

Brutally Honest is an exposé of the struggles and acute pain that lay behind the glamour and success. With deep personal insight, remarkable frankness and Melanie’s trademark Yorkshire humour, this audiobook removes the mask of fame and reveals the mother, wife and daughter behind the Spice Girl everyone thinks they know.

The audiobook edition features narration from Melanie, her daughter, Phoenix, and her mother, Andrea.

I'm touched

Incredible story Melanie. I finished the book a day after it was released. For two straight days I didnt mind sitting in traffic to & from school & work. There wasn't a dull moment. It felt as if I was living your life struggle with you. Very detailed information. I also struggle with Dyslexia & shamed myself for not being smart enough. Slowly your book has given me the confidence to believe in myself. Thank you for sharing your story Gemini sister.

Respect and admiration. Rater R

Her life was a real Hollywood movie. Something that needs to be told. Rated R because of her brutal honesty:). My respect to Melanie, her daughters and family.

Just Sad

As a fan of Ms Browns work, from the Spice Girls to America's Got Talent, I figured it would be fun to know some about her and boy do I. I felt like I was on a merry go round of dysfunction with the names changing but story remaining the same. What is the definition of insanity.............
I sincerely hope that she has learned from the past but something tells me there are more mistakes out there that will look just like all the ones in this book. I hope I am wrong.

Meh

Sounds super repetitive...didn’t delve into certain things that were briefly touched upon. I went from like her to disliking her and found myself yelling at my phone! That rough northern accent I could only take in small doses. Perhaps the book version would have been better.

Intense and Enlightening! A Must Read!

All women, whether abused or not, will find this book a valuable tool in escaping or helping another woman, whether friend, daughter, mother or acquaintance escape an abusive and controlling relationship. I highly recommend this book and thank Mel B for having the courage to share her life story with the world.

Three sides to every story, yours, mine, and the truth.

I myself am a survivor of domestic abuse and childhood abuse. So I was very interested to read this book and see what insight Melanie had to give.

It is a very interesting book, and it was interesting to find out about her childhood and life with the Spice Girls. It was also interesting to find out the story behind her and Eddie Murphy’s relationship.

Like all children that come from a not so great childhood, Mel only picked men that were abusive, cold, and distant in hopes that she could get them to love her because if she could do that she would prove to herself she was a lovable person. We from that sort of childhood do that.

What did surprise me however, is the choices Melanie would make, for instance, when she decided to publicly say F you to Stefan by showing up for the X factor without her wedding ring and then she seem shocked that he retaliated by leaving the country with their child. Really? That’s surprised you? You describe what a monster he is but then that shocks you? Needless to say, there were several times that this book set off my bullshit to tactor’s

amazing

This book takes you through a roller coaster ride . The highs and lows of what Mel B experienced and what she had to face is unbelievable. Every woman should read or listen to this book. The book is put together beautifully it flows in a very unique way. I have loved Mel since I was a 13 year old girl. I am now a 34 year old woman and I still look up to her. I am so glad the truth is out.

Excellent book

First of all, Zara Abrahams has done an AMAZING job narrating!

This is soooo honest, no stone is left unturned, I have never read/ listened to a celebrity autobiography that goes this in depth in to the subject’s private life. I am so pleased Mel and family are safe/ happy now!

Brilliant

This sets a benchmark for celebrity autobiographies. We want to know the real story not a list of accomplishments. Sorry but anything less than Brutally Honest is boring and not worth paying for. A fantastic listen and thank you to Mel B and Audible for this great addition to my library.

waste of credit

Truly awful book to listen to, not written well at all and her story isn't put across well, it comes across as whiney, poor me and pity me when it was really suppose to show her life and help stop abuse happen to someone else.

A soul on show

I was riveted with this biography from beginning to end. Mel B is just so honest and still sounding so raw. I really hope that getting her true self out there has been a cathartic experience for her.
This book made me laugh and cry in equal measure.
The narration was fantastic. I thought it was great that Mel’s mum and daughter also gave their point of view. The end interview was also a bonus and gave more insight into the book.
This book has made me question things around me and realise how easily people of all walks of life can become ghosts in their own lives. Very brave and beautifully written.

This was my first audio book.. Brilliant!

I really loved this book made me really think about relationships.

Just shows that what you see of celebrities is not what is really going on behind closed doors!

I was really impressed with Audible. Have just downloaded my next book.

Brutally honest

I knew I was going to love this book within minutes of listening to it. The narrator is brilliant and straight away I forgot that it’s not Melanie talking, really enjoyed listening to this book even though it’s sad and emotional. So brave of her to be so open.

A mind blowing and raw insight. Superbly narrated

An incredible insight to a larger than life ... life. It starts off with an unknown attempted overdose that only occurred recently... who would have known?! The narration was absolutely spot on and a story that will hit you in many different ways.

A revealing story worth hearing

The content of the book, showing warts and all painted a colourful picture of a warm, caring and at times conflicted woman. I felt for Melanie’s mistakes and suffering and quickly felt connected with her flawed and vulnerable character.
I must say I did not find the book well written which was a disappointment. Perhaps there was no intent for it to be a literary masterpiece.
Nonetheless I’m left with insight and greater understanding into a woman I previously knew little about.

Thank you Melanie

Structure of book was distracting...

Not knocking her journey but the way the book was written and structured was chaotic. This might be a reflection of MB but not helpful when trying to lose yourself in it. I think this impacted on the fact it was repetative in places. Reiterates the mask that social media allows and encourages. Hopefully someone listening will be encouraged to bolt from their abusive partner.
