Publisher's Summary

Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is Alison Arngrim's comic memoir of growing up as one of television's most memorable characters - the devious Nellie Oleson on the hit television show Little House on the Prairie.

With behind-the-scenes stories from the set, as well as tales from her bohemian upbringing in West Hollywood and her headline-making advocacy work on behalf of HIV awareness and abused children, Confessions of a Prairie Bitch is a must for fans of everything Little House: the classic television series and its many stars like Michael Landon and Melissa Gilbert; Gilbert's best-selling memoir Prairie Tale; and, of course, the beloved series of books by Laura Ingalls Wilder that started it all.

Do yourself a favor .....GET THIS AUDIO BOOK!!!!!

I read Confessions of a Prairie Bitch 5 years ago. The minute I opened it up I pretty much didn't stop reading. I didn't want to stop reading. I couldn't stop reading. As soon as I was done I was ready to read it again.
Confessions of a Prairie Bitch read by Alison Arngrim herself is FINALLY available and I could not be happier! In a style you come to expect from the woman who portrayed Nellie Oleson for many seasons on Little House on the Prairie, Arngrim shares her story from her childhood, her years on Little House, Michael Landon's passing, her role as an AIDS activist, her involvement in PROTECT.org (the woman has changed LAWS to protect children people!) and beyond. Alison is a woman who isn't shy about opening up, and you'll love her for it.
Alison Arngrim is a natural storyteller. She is a brilliant comic and in real life, A VERY NICE PERSON!
If you're a fan of Little House on the Prairie, Nellie Oleson, Arngrim, or just want to listen a hilarious audiobook get your copy of Confessions of a Prairie Bitch ASAP!

Best Audiobook of the Year

What did you love best about Confessions of a Prairie Bitch?

The book would have been good regardless but Alison Arngrim did such an amazing job reading her own book. Her bits of humor, voices, and emotion just took what would have been a great book and made it even greater. I had no idea she was so funny and the insights she offered not just on LHOTP but just on the world in general was just terrific. I cannot wait to listen to this book again.

Whaaa!!! I finished it!! Ready for volume 2.

I loved this audible book. No, I was never a regular LHOTP watcher and have not seen every episodes. But that didn't stop me from purchasing this book and loving it. I would love this book even if I didn't know who Nellie Olson was as I fell in love with Alison Arngrim. I found this book on a list of popular audio books. She's funny, honest, compassionate and resilient. I admired her matter of fact attitude regarding the sexual abuse she suffered as a child. Horrific, but she is a not a prisoner to it. Hate Nellie Olson? Be ready to love Alison Arngrim!!

What a hoot!

Never watched Little House. Just hoped for a candid description of growing up on screen in Hollywood. Man did I get more than I bargained for. Funny, poignant sometimes simultaneously, enlightening and brilliantly written, Alison is one charismatic bitch. I loved this book.

VERY FUNNY with some sad parts , good bio

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes , it is very funny with some sad parts related to child abuse . The narration was done by the author herself so it was if she was telling you the story , it added credibility and emotion to the story that given some of the gut wrenching parts made it powerful . The stories were I believe and she spoke clearly and was not hesitant in the use of profanity , this is a woman that I would like to have a beer with and hear more stories . Given the current revelations of harassment and abuse this woman ,should be seen as a source of inspiration in how to deal with and persevere .She has a wicked and sharp wit with a twisted sense of humor , this is a woman we need more of !.

What did you like best about this story?

The stories of life behind the scenes of the tv show , her honesty and humor in all her travails .

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene at the school where she was kicked , fell down and could not get up because of her dress, told in a brutal funny way . There were other scenes that were just as funny , this is one of the best biographies that I have heard in a long time.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no , I listen to all my books on my commute or just regular driving so I listen to them episodically, this book was great in that the performance was like a friend in the car telling you stories on a road trip. That is my personal standard of excellence in a audio book I could listen to it in one sitting but I was glad I was able take a break when the sad parts were told.

Any additional comments?

Really enjoyed this book , ( I don't post reviews for all my titles ) so this one did stand out , I hope Ms Arngrim will narrate more books or will write more herself. God bless her for her work with children and the ill , again we need more people like her .

Alison Wonderland

If you have only read the print copy, you're missing out! Alison's dynamic performance will leave in stitches, but not without a few tears. Her performance of her work is a masterpiece! She is engaging from the very first word until her closing breath. I've already listened to it twice! ...

Totally engrossing!

I listened to this as much as time allowed! The experiences she had playing Nellie on Little House were very interesting and made me want to watch the series again, Her activism to get California to remove the exception law is surely commendable. Her humor comes through and the voice is the same and the audiobook would not have been so great with another narrator.

Awesome Autobiography

Alison’s personal story of her life growing up in Los Angeles and her role as the child mean girl Nellie Oleson in Little House on the Prairie. Don’t want to give away any spoilers here, just suffice it to say I that I admire Alison for telling her story without sounding bitter about what happened to her as a young girl. As well as learning about Alison as a person and her family, I enjoyed her antidotes of fellow Little House cast members. Alison is a gifted comedian and actress and whenever I now watch a Little House episode, I will appreciate Alison’s portrayal of Nellie Oleson all the more.

I LOVE NELLIE!!!

An effective actor is one who is polarizing. I dislike the nellie character, but I Love Alison the actress. Would LHOTP be a successful franchise without the likes of Nellie, Willie, and the dreaded Mrs o? Alison did a wonderful memoir. No clue as to the drama and trauma of her home life while she acted. Alison is a beacon of hope and I wish well and continued success.
