Publisher's summary

Romance, drama, and mystery abound in this telenovela-inspired upper-YA romantic fantasy for fans of multi-POV stories, forbidden love, enemies to lovers, family sagas, royal intrigue, and mysterious magic.

A forbidden fae kiss could be deadly.

Naia was raised in the shadow of her twin brother, the crown prince, who has iron magic much more powerful than hers. But Naia has wishes of her own. They awaken when she finds a white fae almost dying in the woods. She only heard of them in stories: the dreaded race that razed cities to the ground, killed her grandparents, almost rid Aluria of humans—until they disappeared. Now, almost 20 years later, are they back? Is there another war coming?

But the fae is evasive and secretive—and also alluring and fascinating, more beautiful than anyone she’s ever seen. And then it happens: Naia kisses him—and nothing will be the same again.

In another kingdom, Leah, a necromancer princess, has to find a husband in less than four days, during the gathering, when royals from all over Aluria meet. Her family makes it very clear that she can pick any prince she wants—except one: Naia’s brother. And it turns out that he’s the one, the one who makes her heart beat faster.

Meanwhile, war looms over the land. One of the kingdoms is amassing immense power. The White Fae might be returning. Amidst it all, Naia and her brother struggle with newfound magical powers, family secrets, and most of all, their own treacherous hearts.

Frozen Hearts and Death Magic is book one of the duology Of Fire and Fae, recommended for listeners 16 and up.

The Author Must Owe the Narrator a Favor

First, the story itself is fine.

HOWEVER, the narrator sounds like a 6th grader reading their fan fiction at at open mic night. She is monotone; using the question wistful tone on EVERYTHING. Her pronunciation of the word “naked” as “nekkid” made me want to return the book immediately. Also, girl, assailant DOES NOT HAVE AN EXTRA “i”! Apparrently, she thinks it’s spelled “assailiant”, because that’s how she pronounced it.

The recording quality is also straight out of the tin can and string school of audio. You can hear the narrator bump the table. No one edited out several redos on lines.

I realize that this is most likely a self-published work with a very very small budget, but GIRL..this is not good. If you can’t afford to hire a professional, then just don’t have an audio book.

great story, lackluster narration

I loved the premise of the story. a love story that must face multiple obstacles and a heroine who is far more than she is allowed to be. I liked Naia's characterization. and I enjoyed the author's world building. sign me up for any story that has Fae & dragons. seriously.
so the narration... I have been urged to listen to the sample before buying this book and I did. from the sample the narrator had a decent voice, so I decided to give the audiobook a try. unfortunately the deeper you get into the story, the more bothered I started getting by the lack of feeling narrator put behind any of the characters. it was extremely monotone during the romance, anger, frustration - and it just really threw off the whole feeling of the book. I ended up giving up on the narration halfway and just getting the e- book.

this may not be a problem for other people, but the narration also isn't recorded professionally. you can hear a lot of noise that distracts from the story.

all that being said I would strongly encourage you give this book a try and listen to the narration first. my advice would be to understand that that narration will continue the entire time without any inflections. and if it's not for you I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to pick up the ebook, because the story itself was fun and deserves to be heard. I'll definitely be continuing to book two.

A great listen

This was such a delight to listen to, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in the series! I love fae romance in general, but I felt like this listen was really special! I enjoyed the multiple points of views and the spectacles that took place as the story unfolded. The plot twists and drama were so exciting and kept me on my toes. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Amazing story! Can't wait for book 2!

I absolutely loved this story! It did take me a minute to get used to the narration, but once I did I couldn't stop listening. I binge listened to this so I could see what would happen next.

This story is so complex, but that just makes it all the more interesting! It has fae, magic, humans, dragons, and more.

I really enjoyed the multi points of view, and the flashbacks. Honestly the Author did an outstanding job creating this world. I will definitely be continuing this story!

Frozen Hearts is AWESOME!

Setting the story was great! You have a set of twins with magical powers, yet the brother is to become King and the sister is to become his advisor. Naia is a restless and uses her powers to leave the manor and go for a walk and comes upon a Fat. Not just any Fee, a very cold to the touch and rather good looking one. She takes him back to her room via her magic and warms him up. He awakens and begins the friendship of River and Naia. For her reward of reviving him, she has asked for a kiss. River disappears and Naia thinks she has killed him.
Her father is not one to really socialize with the rest of the kings and keeps his children safely away from most of them. They attend a gathering (which ladies and gents vie for attention and the hopeful marriage is the result)

Fen meets Leah and yes falls in love and prepares to have a meeting with her mother, (who has nothing but hatred for Fen’s family.) and present the proposal of marriage. Leah’s mother is not a nice person and Leah ends up marrying the Prince of Iron Will. This family its very cruel

River and Nana leave her home and got into the “Hollow” where River has a home for Nana. So many secrets and Naia wants answers and she gets them with the aid of her buried magic. And also falling more in love with River and he with her.

River and Naia overcome the obstacles that have been presented so far. Yet so many surprise are yet to unfold in the next installment.

This book was an easy read and very enjoyable. Age appropriate and never boring. Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook and review. I am so looking forward to the next book!!

Excited to hear more from this author

The narrator was a little monotone in the beginning, but she gets better toward the end. The story definitely keeps you listening. I loved the characters and Ms. Leitao's story. I originally was interested in it because of the cover and it did not disappoint! I can't wait to see how the narrator progresses for the next story, and will definitely be reading/listening to the second.

Intriguing Fantasy

This was my first experience with Day Leitao's work and I enjoyed it a lot. From the opening paragraph until the last page of the novel I was enthralled. I liked the intricate details regarding the world building. I enjoyed the complexities of the characters. The plot was filled with twists and turns and surprises the reader never saw coming. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I recommend this story to others who enjoy this genre. Casey Maxwell's narration was fine. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.
