Incredibly entertaining

Prophecy of Ashes is a brilliantly written urban fantasy thriller with plenty of excitement. I was blown away by John R. Monteith; he is an exceptional author with the ability to captivate his audience with his phenomenal imagination and world-building. The premise for the storyline is quite fascinating and engaging; I was entirely immersed from start to end. Monteith introduces a new supernatural species called the Wraith. The Wraiths grant human immortality in exchange for basically becoming their minions. The price for immortality is to preform ritualistic human sacrifices.

The characters are well-rounded, intriguing, with distinct personalities. Liam, and his adoptive father, Connor, are part of an ancient order charged with hunting the Wraiths, and the trained but possessed operators. Dianne, a psychic, joins the father and son team and learns to use her abilities and tacking clues to the murders. The supporting characters are well-developed, providing great dialogue and interaction.

Excellent narration by Karen Krause. She does a stellar job portraying the characters' personalities and intensity of the scenes. Overall, the Prophecy of Ashes is a fast-paced supernatural thriller with quality plot and marvelous characters. I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, and strongly recommend it. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A Strong Start For A New Series.

"Prophecy of Ashes" is an interesting story of father and son hunters who are after a supernatural being called a Wraith. The wraith likes to work through human operatives that it grants immortality to in exchange for doing its bidding. Unfortunately, the wraith's bidding requires his operatives to regularly perform human sacrifices.

"Prophecy of Ashes" unfolds through multiple story threads and multiple characters who will eventually converge to make for a very good reading/listening experience. Although there were some slow spots for me, the storytelling, overall, is excellent and the characters are well developed. The choice of narrator was also top notch. I really enjoyed "Prophecy of Ashes." I consider it a strong opening entry for a new urban fantasy series. I look forward to the next book.

Intriguing story!

This story develops around the groups before they all merge. There are wraith hunters who hunt every 50 years. Diane a woman who believes she's an empath and the wraith who is a psychopath. There are thrills and suspense but I have to admit I didn't really like Diane. She was kind of whiney through most of the story and I wished the wraith would have tortured her. On the other hand there was enough elements to keep me listening. One of them was wondering when the wraith was gonna kill her and how he'd do it. Would it be bloody and quick or slow and painful?

I loved the hunters and their use of technology. That was clever but it was the young stud hunter who thought of it and it was a nice touch. If the police and FBI use this stuff why not a couple guys searching for a wraith? It makes sense and added a lot to the story. Overall it was enjoyable with its quick pace and action. The characters are developed as well as the plot.

The narrator does a really great job with the voices of both the male and female characters.

Didn't quite work for me, YMMV

I got this book for free. My opinions are my own.

I did not enjoy this as much as I wanted to, nor as much as I thought I would, and I'm not entirely sure why. However, some of the reasons include:

-- I really did not enjoy spending so much time in the POV of the Wraith (the sicko "bad guy"). I began skipping over his sections quite early on. Perhaps just the prologue and a few brief & scattered additional sections would have sufficient.

-- I never really clicked with either Dianne or Liam.

-- The dialog didn't seem quite natural to me

DIVERSITY: The main character's brother is autistic, and plays a very important role in carrying forward the plot. I am unable to comment on how accurate his portrayal is, although it sounded like the author was including authentic details for interacting with him. / Some MCs are Chaldean Christians with roots in Iraq.

CONTENTS (for those who care): Minor swears / Antagonist engages in all sorts of problematic behavior including sexual aggression & multiple "owned" partners (nothing explicit) / Violence, including ritualistic murders

NARRATION: Acceptable, but not high quality / Sound quality issues, including slightly hollow sounding / Slow, listened on 1.5 instead of my usual 1.25 and that was just a touch fast / Accents - can't judge accuracy, didn't bother me

Great start to a Great Series!

Very strong heroine. She has got what it takes to finish off the bad guys. I enjoyed the way the characters were developed throughout the story line and it kept you on your toes all the way to the end. The mixture of ancient and modern tech was great. Just wish the narrator had a little more ump-ff in her reading.

Entertaining

Prophecy of Ashes is a supernatural thriller and first book in the Wraith Hunter Chronicles. The story involves a 20 something female who is the caregiver for her autistic sibling. Both siblings have unique abilities that are revealed as the story rolls along. There is ritualistic murder, kidnapping with chains, and some physical violence. I found the story entertaining and interesting but may not be for all thriller enthusiasts due to the items listed in the above sentence. The characters are likable and relatable but don’t have a lot of depth, which may be revealed as the stories continue. The narrator did a good job.
