Publisher's summary

You live in your dream house, but there's no mortgage. No alarm clock, no boss, no bills. No claims on the day's time other than what you choose. It is making more money before breakfast than you made for an entire week at your last job. It is a crazy expensive car parked in your garage, a victorious symbol that your dreams no longer sleep in fantasies, but are awake with reality.

Make no mistake, this life exists. I know, because it has been mine for nearly 20 years. And in a few short years, it can be yours as well. Better, you won't need five tedious decades of thankless jobs, buzz killing frugality, and patient investing with our trusted friends on Wall Street.

Unfortunately, you have been scripted to believe that such a life is out of your reach, or only possible for a certain type of person. Someone with a certain college degree, a certain amount of VC funding, or a certain contact list of connected friends from Stanford. I am here to tell you, that none of it is true.

While I have been entrepreneur most of my life, I am no one special. You won't read about me over at Tech Crunch or in some Silicon Valley newsletter. While I have been an Internet entrepreneur since the old "you've got mail" AOL days, I have never been funded by venture capitalists, I have never had a payroll with more than five people on it, and I have never studied computer science at school.

Despite this, I am able to create profitable businesses that create the type of unscripted life described above.

Making money, yeah. Cut the rant though.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Absolutely. I love the author's "let's get it done" philosophy, but later on in the book it just feels like a rant. He even starts backlashing about fat-shaming.
Honestly, I just want to learn about entrepreneurship. I don't need a social commentary (complete with excessive cussing).

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Despite my previous comments about the book turning into a social commentary, it's well worth the purchase.
I wouldn't call this a story, but the information offered in three quarters of this title makes it worth while.
Like I said, however, it later turns into a social commentary (yawn).

Have you listened to any of Scott Thomas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but this voice actor is amazing. He kept me up late at night with his enthusasm -- despite the title being extremely long.

Who do you think would benefit most from listening to Unscripted?

Anyone looking to get ahead in life, or planning on opening (or wanting to improve on) their business.

Any additional comments?

Overall, the book is worth the purchase. It is well written, and narrated fantastically.

I just want to turn it off when I start to hear the rant about people the author doesn't believe are putting enough into life. Frankly, he sounds like a bit of a bully near the end; but that won't stop me from taking good info and using it to my advantage.

Hopeless, don't waste your time

It's not that I disagree with the author for his views infact I completely agree to what he said in his first book - Millionaire Fast Lane which was so much more valuable and pleasing to hear... I heard that book more than 5 times until now and I still love it! However, this book is just not worth it since there's nothing new in this book... Lot of filler and very abrasive language with same message. Stick with the first book only since it's enough to get your thinking on the right track. MJ understands that his first book was hit and so wants to leverage his reputation to make same money again from his second book.. Have returned this already and listening to the first book (fast lane) - its so interesting and engaging...

Top 5 Entrepreneurship of all time!

I don’t ever usually read two books by the same author because most authors no matter how good they are have so much bleed over from their other books that it’s basically like reading the same book over but reworded a little bit. However, this book stands a lone from MJ’s ‘the millionaire fast lane’. Anyone wanting to start a business should read both of his books. There are so many terrible “do what you love” or “think yourself to success” books out there and they’re all the same, bullcrap! This book isn’t like any of them. It’s the reality of business and entrepreneurship, no sugar coated but brutally honest.

A dense listen with some nuggets

I have a friend who loves this book and has read it three times. It took me a few weeks to get through it once on Audible. There's some good stuff in there, but I bet the book could be edited to half it's size without losing anything.

A wake up call for those wanting more out of life

MJ has done it again.
Unscripted is a prequel to The Millionaire Fastlane, in my opinion, although both books stand alone.
The book covers all the underlying things required to get the right mindset and create valuable businesses that serve and add value to the world, while allowing you to become wealthy and be untethered from a J.O.B.
Read/listen to it multiple times to allow the message to sink in.

If you can get past his right wing rants and share same political/religious views you should be ok buying this

Now I know why this book is so long.. The author spends an awful amount of time preaching right wing victim hood.

If reading/listening about

Snowflake
Safe spaces
Condoleezza rice
Gulf war
That gay vile guy from Britney
Children that recieve participation awards
Region /God shouldn't be separated from government

And on...

I really believe he wrote this book to get his right wing rant out there...actually he did just that.

I have his first book which was just straight up advice..this book is something Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity would have written.

You've been warned....

Good but

Not as good as the first book. The author introduced a good material but contradict himself several times. He started with a good (known) fact that our lives are scripted and I promise to unscript it for you. Fine, then he start an unnecessary war against personal finance authors by making fun of their basics: saving, changing the way to view money, alter the bad money-management behavior, investing, giving more getting...etc.
Fine again, then he spend some chapters giving advice about how to find the perfect business and how to manage it, which was the best part pf the book. Finally, and here’s the strange part, the author starts giving the same personal finance advice that he waged war against those who gave it to their readers. He endorses saving and changing the way we should view money and offers ways to invest in stocks and bonds and how to split our money....

The three stars rating is basically just for the business part, all other chapters are just a mix of humor and bad-wording the “scripted” mentality

Must Listen!!!

I really enjoyed The Millionaire Fastlane, and this book is a great follow up to that masterpiece. There is a fair bit of strong language, but if you can look past that it is well worth the listen. Candid, honest to a fault, and just telling it like it is. I loved the dry sarcastic overtones, they serve to emphasize how ridiculous modern economic slavery really is. Narration was well done, very professional and easy to listen to, so I'm pleased with the overall experience.

Priceless, most valuable book in startups

It's an amazing journey to listen to the book. I admire the author for not caring about being politically correct and gave his advice plain and simple.

The only thing this guy likes is hating stuff

I'm about 2.5-3 hours and I can't take it anymore. I read that everyone needs this slap in the face but this guy just sounds like a whiny, bitter and lonely dude who found out money didn't buy him happiness. Subtle brags while shaming the douchebagery at the same time. Little hypocritical slaps in the face all over the place. Tossing in cuss words everywhere to try and keep our attention. Not a single piece of information that I can take away from this. It sounds like one long ass bitter intro three hours in and he is still saying "this book is about".
