Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Publisher's Summary
Has the "settle-for-less" financial plan become your plan for wealth? That plan sounds a little something like this:
"Graduate from college, get a good job, save 10% of your paycheck, buy a used car, cancel the movie channels, quit drinking expensive Starbucks mocha lattes, save and penny-pinch your life away, trust your life-savings to the stock market, and one day, when you are oh, say, 65 years old, you can retire rich."
Since you were old enough to hold a job, you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by blindly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. I call this soul-sucking, dream-stealing dogma "The Slowlane" - an impotent financial gamble that dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair.
Accept the Slowlane as your financial roadmap and your financial future will blow carelessly asunder on a sailboat of hope: hope you can get a job and keep it, hope the stock market doesn't tank, hope the economy rebounds, hope, hope, and hope. Do you really want hope to be the centerpiece of your family's financial plan?
Drive the Slowlane road and you will find your life deteriorate into a miserable exhibition about what you cannot do, versus what you can. For those who don't want a lifetime subscription to "settle-for-less", there is an alternative; an expressway to extraordinary wealth capable of burning a trail to financial independence faster than any road out there. And shockingly, this road has nothing to do with jobs, 401(k), mutual funds, or a lifestyle of mediocrity.
Demand more. Change lanes and find your explosive wealth accelerator. Hit the Fastlane, crack the code to wealth, and find out how to live rich for a lifetime.

Wayyyy to long BUT one of the BEST books around !!
Ive read hundreds of business, financial and self-help books over the years and this has quickly become one of my favorites. Its straight-forward, NO B.S advise on creating wealth FAST.
The core message is essentially the same as the book RichDad PoorDad with a few minor differences. Both books assert if you want to be rich do what rich people do. Rich people focus on purchasing income producing assets that over time allow them to stop trading their time for money and get out of the rat-race.
RichDad says it like this - p58 "If you want to be rich, this is all you need to know. Rule#1 You must know the difference between an asset and a liability and buy assets. It is Rule #1 and is the only rule. Rich people acquire assets. The poor and middle called acquire liabilities.
FastLane says it like this p123 "The primary wealth accelerant of the rich boils down to one concept: Appreciable and controllable assets. Slowlaners and side walkers buy and sell depreciating assets that decline in value over time. Fastlaners buy and sell appreciating assets: businesses, brands, cash flows, notes, intellectual property, licenses, inventions, patents and real estate."
A few of my favorite chapters were:
Chapter 14 - The hypocrisy of gurus - which he explains how most financial gurus didn't get rich on the advise they teach. They got rich selling the slow lane idea to consumers while getting rich in the fast lane.
Chapter 17 - Switch Teams and Playbooks - which he explains the need to switch mindsets from a consumer to a producer in order to build wealth.
I also love the author's idea of wealth. Its not about the money. Real wealth is in freedom, relationships and health
Towards the end the author begins to dig into the practical how-to stuff. Providing tips on getting your business started, what business to go into, pitfalls to avoid, how to recognize business opportunities everywhere and things you'll need to learn to be successful.
There is a ton of value in this book. Repetitive at times...YES! Entirely way to long(325pages)...YES! ... A CLASSIC book that every entrepreneur should read...YES !!

Second Half is a Killer
I gave a 4 stars bc the first half of the book has little value. However, the second half is a 5 star, no matter what. He gives so many valuable information that is insane.
Many people complain about the author not giving specific examples on how to start a business. He can’t do that bc that depends on the qualities of person. All he can do is to tell you about his own experiences.
To be frank, the central idea given in this book (the Fastlane) is not for everyone, including me. Why? Bc it’s has to do with the individual and his circumstances. For me (and most people), the slow lane is way more practical. Though, his advices can also be applied for the slow lane; it’s here where I give him credit. Thanks.

Excellent!
I almost did not purchase this book because of the title, but I'm so glad I did! This could very easily be the best book I've read in years. I currently earn an above average income (low 6 figures). Even though I can afford a good living, I feel like saving through my 401k is not getting me anywhere fast. As a former financial advisor, I believe the author's ideas are sound and he confirms why I felt like a fraud every time I pitched stocks and mutual funds. While it has been done, it is extremely difficult to make big gains in the stock market. It's mainly a really slow game that takes more than a couple decades to work. This book presents a mental state rather than a step by step plan. The author gives many examples of fast track success stories and most importantly, he doesn't sell any of the content as "get rich easy". Oh, and there's no up selling attempts within this book!

Save your time and money
I was super excited about this audiobook. After the first couple chapters I thought to myself this has got to get better but it never did. If you are looking for a book where the person does nothing but talk about himself this is it. If your looking for a book on examples of a huge ego, this is it. If you are looking for a book on entrepreneurship and ideas to help you accelerate your growth this ain’t it. Save your money save your time. Look elsewhere all he does is talk about himself or other people’s comments in his forum.

If you like machismo and being vague, this book is for you.
This book was just a long-winded and occasionally sexist way of saying: you need a business that makes you money passively. Duh.
No how to’s (though he does warn you of that early on.) Just some vague ideas: internet businesses, real estate, something no one else is doing, find a need a fill it... blah blah blah all the things you’ve heard/read before (and said much more succinctly.)
He also talks crap about the Law of Attraction, but in the end gives you ideas to use (ie., if you want a Ferrari print out a picture of one where you can look at it every day, etc.) that are based on the LOA. A bit hypocritical, for sure.
This book was definitely not for me. But if you want some sports-car driving, attention-seeking, macho “bro” as a cheerleader (not a coach!) for 13+ hours, maybe the book is for you.

great message watered down by constant repetition
The first half of the book is painfully lacking and repititious. The second half is great and extremely substantial. The narrator(who is also the writer) while has great energy sounds more like a salesman, which did not appeal to me. if you can get past the bland first half you will be treated a some wonderful lessons later on.

Best I have read in a long time
What made the experience of listening to The Millionaire Fastlane: Crack the Code to Wealth and Live Rich for a Lifetime the most enjoyable?
I own a business that's pretty successful but not fast lane yet like I want because I need to work on scale but MJ is dead on with his 5 commandments of fast lane business and his 3 types of people. Also he isn't a guru trying to lure you into buying more his stuff. He is truth.
Who was your favorite character and why?
MJ because he is real and I know from experiences that what he is saying is true.
What does MJ DeMarco bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I can identify with him.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The Truth the Gurus Don't Want You to Know
Any additional comments?
I hope to meet MJ some day. He has inspired me to jump back into my business and rev the engine for the fast lane.

Good insights, over the top condescension
MJ undoubtedly has pretty good thoughts and guidance when it comes to money and has fresh insights and stories from his life. The content of the book itself was helpful and actionable.
The listening experience was spoilt for me by his constant condescension, made up of thinly veiled insults and rhetoric. I know this is his persona for the book and how he stands out, but I didn't care for that too much.
I felt that the chapter break music was very jarring as well.

The Real Deal
What made the experience of listening to The Millionaire Fastlane: Crack the Code to Wealth and Live Rich for a Lifetime the most enjoyable?
The author himself read the book, and has a very conversational tone. I felt as if he was in the room/car with me.
What did you like best about this story?
This was based upon the author's experience. There was no stories about people who wished, hoped and dreamed they'd be rich- this guy tells you how to actually make it happen.
What about MJ DeMarco’s performance did you like?
His tone was earthy and conversational. Felt like you met him at the bar and you talked with him for hours.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Listen to the first 3 hours and gave up
This book promised a lot and I’ve heard great things about it, but even at a increased speed the first 3 hours covered virtually nothing.
There’s no practical information on what to do, just the same sound bites over and over from an author with quite a high and mighty stance (given his back story). It’s very much get off your arse and start doing something/anything.

Time Wasting and Claustrophobic
If you’re young and new to this sort of material then this book might work for you. However, I’m in my forties, familiar with the traps and trying to escape the rat race, so the first four hours was just reminding me of the traps I’ve fallen into in the past and that time is running out! Not great material for my daily commute.
The positive stuff started in the fifth hour, but the author carried on like I’m already running a successful business and I lost the will to continue. This is the only book I’ve ever returned.
The author’s voice grated on me too.
Three stars because it clearly adds value for many readers/listeners, but it’s not for everyone.

Fantastic advice but you have to follow through.
Just do it! Ideas without action are nothing.
An excellent book with lots of good advice and stories. Some times the points seem slightly laboured but they get the point across well.

Do you want to become wealthy? then listen to this book.
This book is like no other audio book. Mj Demarco goes on to experience the physcology, behind the scenes of the understanding of what the different roads maps are, the slow lane, the fast lane and the side walk, his up beat voice was refreshing and great advice, will help you in the right drection. I highly recommend buying the audio version,
I listen to a lot of audio books, which help me to the next stage in my life of where I want to go next, and they help be gain the knowledge while I sleep as I find them useful to and not finding that my day has not been wasted.
Excuses don't make you rich, implement what you have learned and this book will definitely help you

You need a hit internet business in order for this to be relevant
Liked the first few chapters, but a lot of the book refers to needing an internet business, distribution business or software businesses in order to make money, as well as investing your millions into municipal shares, I just found him annoying and full of BS, sure he’s rich but he’s narrow minded and it’s his way or no way.

It's ok.
I have read / listened to alot of these kinds of books and while I agree with most of the things MJ says in this book, that's pretty much all he does.
MJ goes through all the reasons why living a certain way (the slow lane) will not accelerate your road to wealth and that's pretty much it. If your like me you will probably know all of this already, there is no real blueprint or plan of action, it's just Mr DeMarco going on and on about the fast lane / slow lane paradox.
Overall there's some interesting ideas in this book but nothing more. Be prepared for MJ to go on and on and give you nothing that your desperate to hear about finding your own path towards the fast lane.

Read this, just read it, I loved it
I really loved this book, I'm going to read it again. So insightful, challenging, current & just what I needed. I nearly overlooked this book cause of the title, thankfully I took a leap of faith. This is how it is, no nonsense, honest and blunt.

Great content just too long
Absolutely love what MJ is writing about. I love on the fast lane and fully subscribe to his thinking.
My only wish was that instead of writing the book purely for slow laners he focused more on the meat instead of why it’s so bad to be building wealth slow in a job. I feel he talks in circles and continually rams home similar points throughout to fluff out the text.
If you’re already in the Fastlane I suggest listening to the last 1/4 of the book. You’ll get more than your monies worth from that content. I will continue to buy MJ’s books as I believe he provides immense value.

wasn't sold at first.
the book had a slow start, "ok we get it slow lane thinking is backward thinking". I think the type of person who buys this book is not the type of person that needs thoroughly convincing. BUT stick with it!! (I have a suspicion that he wrote it this way to weed out the 'get rich easy' crowd) this is such a paradigm shift im really going to read it again because I think the stuff in here are foundations you need to shift your thinking about wealth vs rich vs time. Thankyou dearly MJ DeMarco i really hope for my own sake I put the stuff here into practice.

A slap in the face wake up call
From start to finish, the author provided a no nonsense interpretation of how to escape the rat race in today’s real world. The mantra of work and life long held as true and passed down for generations is wholesomely challenged. A great read (or listen)!

8 hours of self-aggrandising
-Too long
- Irresponsible advice where 99.7% population earn less than US$1mpa & perform essential roles like nurses, teachers, police, emergency workers
- 90% business ventures fail within 5y (author)
- perhaps society should pay the real hero’s in our society more sponsored by the fortunate wealthy like the author, sport stars, entertainers etc
- 5% info valuable
- authors voice not engaging IMO for audio books

slap in the face
I greatly appreciate the lessons I got from this book. shifted my perspective and in some instances provided deeper insight in certain though patterns.
presented in a brash, factual, in your face style that may rub some the wrong way. people heavily indoctrinated in the "slow lane" may find this offensive. people realizing that time is scarce and they would rather enjoy the fruits of their labour or pursue their passion earlier than what's norm would find this book helpful. over all a very informative read

Easy to listen to and great content
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and took so much away from it. I’ll actually listen to it again in a couple of months just so I can go over the thing I forgot. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that’s not about the “classics”.
