Publisher's summary

Narrated by Jason Clarke and Carly Robins, Twisted Fate is book two in the emotional, star-crossed Dark Heart Duet from USA Today best-selling author Ella James!

I thought he was the white knight. Looking back, it makes sense. I was young and needed saving. Luca was my strength. He could take on anything - the world, for me. They say first love cuts the deepest. Ours became a blade that bled me out. It turns out I didn't know a villain when he held my heart in his hands. Now it's darker - more like his.

Elise was my whole world - until my world burned, and I destroyed her with me. Some betrayals, you can't undo, no matter how much you wish you could. I can't help who I am now, and why would I want to? I run this city. No one's going to take me down - not even the Manhattan District Attorney's office. I heard they've got a file eight inches thick on Don Galante. But dodging bullets is my business. They play dirty, but there's no one dirtier than me. The DA learns the hard way who's in charge; he's out. It should be time for celebration. There's just one problem: his heir. Or should I say heiress?

Elise O'Hara wears a crown of lies, a gown of red, and a fat diamond on her left hand. Now it's me and her. Or her and me. Only one of us will be left standing when the story's over. This is how you write a tragedy.

A sensational sequel to an amazing duet!

Reading this book has definitely been an emotional roller-coaster of a journey.

The depth of character development and emotions inflicted was just outstanding and so raw and real.

Definitely an amazing duet. The narrators were great.

I recommend reading book 1 first before you go into this one.

Meh?!?! I had high hopes...

I enjoyed book 1 enough to give the conclusion of the story a try and I'm underwhelmed. Aside from the sex, the pacing and the timeline felt off balance. At points the sexy scenes really just felt add ons and by the 3/4 of the way to the end it felt too much like unnecessary scenes to make the book longer and the ending was too much a foregone conclusion. I'm a huge family fan and stories about young love tend to be my jam, but I just the writing and overall storyline didn't do it for me. The narrators were fantastic, that I will say is the saving grace of this audio.

Whew!

All the feels. It continues the story in the 20s and 30s! How their love has bloomed or how their lives turn out! Secrets have been revealed and excellent approach of how communication is key. This is a great ending! I truly love the writing and how this turned out for these lovely 2 main characters, Lucas & Rosa!

Just Wow!

Twisted Fate by Ella James is the second book in a duet narrated by Jason Clarke and Carly Robins. The story starts just a few years after the end of book 1. Elise and Luca are growing up and are completely apart, but the love, twisted as it is, is still there between them. The main story is 14 years after the fated meeting, Luca has done everything he can to protect Elise without her knowledge, until the weekend he falls through the ice. Their twisted love is flaring up and Elise believes that it's "closure". Love has a way of making the impossible happen.
Would I listen to this book again? yes
Would I recommend this book to others? yes, again with trigger warnings.
This was a very well written, developed, and emotional book that had the characters at the ages they were. Jason and Carly did amazing things with these characters and they should be proud of their work. Ella James should also be proud of her role by creating the world and characters then letting us watch them grow up.

Book 2 was way better

Book 1s story line was okay, hard to get into fully but book 2 moved at a much better pace. The writing was amazing. The way Elise and Luca grew and their story evolved was well thought out and such a good ending to a great love story.

My heart bled and then mended for these two.

Luca was not what I expected in the second book; I had fully expected the author to make him an asshole that was hard and unemotional, but she didn't. He kept his sweet side, his kind demeanor, and his strange ability to be both manly and emotional at the same time. I have to say, I usually listen to the "edgier" romance novels, but these two books were worth it. I needed the break from that and having two people so in love for so long and needing each other so badly had me rooting for them both each step of the way. I never really thought I liked the "nice guy" archetype, but Luca somehow makes it work without being cheesy and trite. The author did such an excellent job on these two characters that there were times where I legitimately wanted to cry for them and their pain. Thankfully, the author ends the book beautifully. Like I said before, this is not my typical choice but It was SO worth it in this case and I recommend it HIGHLY. It's a heartbreaking and soul crushing book that will then put your heart and soul back together by the end and make you blink in surprise that you felt so deeply for its' characters.

Fate will always but a twist on your heart

Wow what a story. Ella James wrote this story with Star Cross hero and heroine. This story will break your heart but also give you hope for true love . You will listen to it right till the end praying for the hero and Heroine.

Luca is the hero. Elise is the heroine. This story of young love ( book 1 ) takes place 10 yrs later. Luca has become the top Dom after his father is not around. Elise has become the DA in NY . Elisa is tasked with bring down the Dom , her first love .
Luca will do everything to survive.

Do they part ways , do they betray their path . What happens with them , they were each other’s first love

I love the performance of Carly Robins, and Jason Clarke. They were perfect doing the characters. You felt you were beside Luca and Elise

Really Good Duet

This is part two of the Dark Heart Duet and picks up several years after the events of the first book. It is both an exciting mafia story and also a second chance at love. I liked that the heroine is a strong successful woman but also carries some insecurities just like a real woman. The hero is the Don of a crime family but is very different than how most Mafia stories portray the leader . It makes for a story that is less predictable than others in that category. I enjoyed this story and both laughed and cried. Jason Clarke and Carly Robins were a good choice for the audiobook version.
The only issue is that I was having trouble with confusing the characters names. Between the two books, there are a lot of side characters to keep track of.

Luca and Elise!

When they were teenagers Luca and Elise fell in love however their upbringing couldn’t have been more different. They didn’t think anything could tear them apart until one devastating night that changed both their worlds forever.

Sixteen years later Luca is the head of a mafia family while Elise has just been elected the DA. They have both never moved on from the love they shared but now they find themselves on opposite sides a relationship between them could not only end careers it could end their lives. Their heads know they can’t be together, but their hearts are drawn to each other in a way that is impossible to deny.

This is an emotional and angst filled story about two soulmates who have always belonged together and even though events have kept them apart destiny can be delayed but it can’t be denied. The performance of the narrators draw you in and rather than just listening to the story they make you feel like you are part of it.

Betrayals and Redemption

Ella James outdid herself with Twisted Fate! I loved the conclusion to Elise and Luca's epic forbidden love story. With Elise being the law and Luca the mafia, there were obvious fireworks. Jason Clarke and Carly Robins were fantastic at bringing the characters to life. They had chemistry and inflected the right emotions. I loved it!

Holy Moly!!

A truly tragic love story. My heart is still aching for these two. They really are star crossed lovers. Over 2 years has passed since the end of book 1, and things have changed somewhat. Not even friends in passing, more like enemies, although they pretend they’re not still checking each other out, but they always are. Then we fast forward 14 years and my, oh my. Elise is crowned the new DA, whilst the now Mafia Don Luca looks on. Now, even if they wanted to, they can’t be lovers, or even friends. Action, intrigue, and a plot line to keep you on your toes. I loved both Elise and Luca. The only games they played were to keep each other safe, it would seem that first love never really dies, I was in emotional overdrive at times. I was desperate for them to make it work, I just couldn’t see it as a possibility. Wonderfully written (it definitely kept me on my toes), and super narration from both Jason Clarke and Carley Robins. I was in audio heaven.

Such a fantastic conclusion

This was quite the conclusion to the story of Luca and Elise. It was gut wrenching at times and I felt like I wanted to cry at other times. It doesn't leave off exactly where book 1 left off, but the angst and emotions are pretty much the same if not extended with distance and time. As such it makes the relationship that much more edgier. I thought this might be darker and while I didn't get everything I wanted, the tension more than made up for it. Oh and Jason Clarke speaking Italian? 10/10 would listen again. I volunteered to listen and review an ALC of this. All opinions are my own.
