Publisher's summary

Carter Beckett is the NHL’s resident bad boy, top player both on the ice and in the bedroom, and quite possibly the sexiest man to ever grace my field of vision. But worst of all? He knows it.

He’s arrogant, self-centered, and the man doesn’t seem to know what a filter is, let alone how to use one. He’s had everything served to him on a silver platter, including endless strings of women, and apparently, I’m up next.

His only problem? I have no intention of falling for his shi—um, charm.

I have the solution to all my sexual frustrations in a drawer at home, and it’s far less complicated than Carter Beckett. Sure, he may be pretty, but he’s also a walking, talking reminder for you to wrap it before you tap it.

But then I start letting my guard down, and he starts showing me pieces of himself I had no intention of seeing. The bricks surrounding me may be tumbling down one by one, but I’m not sold yet, which means for the first time in his life, Carter’s the one begging.

For my time, my trust, for a single chance. For me to just…consider him.

Consider Me is the first book in the Playing for Keeps series, but it can be listened to as a standalone. It is a mature hockey romance that contain lots of heat, swoon, laughs, and a ride on an emotional roller coaster!

World's Sexiest Man - Carter Beckett

Oh man, Carter Beckett is one hell of a book boyfriend.

This hockey romance was meaty. Our MMC is Carter Beckett, a hockey superstar team captain and known player. He is a total playboy who even has a separate condo where he brings his conquests. That is until one fateful night when he meets Olivia and his world gets flipped upside down. And she's totally off limits. But that's never stopped him before.

I loved so many moments in this book. Carter is a TOTAL golden retriever. He's loud and embarrassing and lives for the moments when he can get Liv's attention. I specifically loved when he spots her at his game and slams himself against the glass, scaring her and then calls her name repeatedly ( think seagulls from finding Nemo screaming 'mine! ') until she looks up at him. He does things like this throughout the book and it's honestly adorable and hilarious simultaneously.

I loved the added details that really showcase how perfect these two are together. Case in point, the Oreos thing. Also, I loved how they grew together and communicated. Choosing each other over and over again.

My only criticism was that the third act was a bit weak. Not only did the book drag a bit but the breakup was dumb and I think could've been resolved too easily to really make it high stakes. And I honestly think Liv was a bit of a jerk to Carter during it rather than feeling justified. But that's just me.

What to expect
✅ Reformed rake
✅ Banter
✅ Cinnamon roll+ golden retriever energy
✅ Found family
✅ Well written side characters
✅ Adorable kids and some Dilf vibes

▪️ WELL A BIG HELLO & OH MY! BECKA MACK ▪️

Over the twenty plus hours, this journey deeply immerses you in two people’s lives.. you meet their band of friends.. you share in their weaknesses, their blossoming feelings, their torn emotions, their crossroads, their strengths and their hard-won love. You step alongside them as one by one they cross hurdles and lower defences to step ever closer despite the heartbreak risk. And these two roll with the punches, they slowly grow, they find the way to trust and they finally find their forever.

And it was a sizzling + sweet, charming + cute, warm + swoony brick by brick beautiful journey as their hard won steps forward.. and backwards, were very addictive ones. Because Carter Beckett is arrogant, vain, confident, a Player on and off the ice, smug, handsome, cocky, sexy, hung, charming and I loved loved loved him. But that’s not all to him. Because he’s also a good friend, goofy, kind, cute, supportive, hilarious, passionate and a needy ‘relationship virgin’ who is way out of his depth when it comes to the magnetism and attraction drawing him to just one woman.. pint-sized Oli. Olivia has a sassy, feisty, take no bullsh*t attitude but she’s very very insecure and out of her depth when it comes to all that comes with dating NHL’s superstar Carter Beckett. But hold on tightly to each other you two because your hearts will grow.. your hearts will get crushed.. and your hearts will burst with the love you’ve fought for.

Worth a credit? Oh yes definitely. Theirs was a long and winding journey.. but thankfully it was fantastically and expertly narrated by Kasha and Alex (🥰) who brought the perilous, the passionate and the swoony feels to life.. sigh.. and it was pure catnip to my soul and I loved it.

Absolutely loved it

Loved it, loved it, LOVED it! You know things are going VERY well when the 20-hour runtime on an audiobook doesn't phase me, and I spend time doing math to determine whether it's physically possible for me to stay up late enough to finish before going to bed (sadly, no). I really wasn't sure what to expect from this new-to-me author, but I'll admit that I'm a softie for a manhoe who is smacked upside the head the moment he meets the right girl - and that is exactly what this story is all about. The hero at the heart of it undergoes SUCH a transformation from start to finish, and I absolutely adored seeing him work to earn his girl's trust and love. The intimidating length is actually perfect in this instance, because this hero is working so hard to prove himself, persisting through stumbles and obstacles along the way. Mack does an excellent job of showcasing the growth in intimacy, the build of the relationship, and puts it to the test to make sure they got it right. There are SO MANY swoony, tender moments, which pair perfectly with the intensity of emotion and the delicious spice. It's raw, real, and just the right kind of heart-wrenching, and I loved every single minute of it.

The story follows Carter, a hockey star with a playboy reputation that he doesn't try to hide. No woman has ever made him want to change his ways, and he values his privacy and alone time, so casual encounters have always made the most sense. At least... until he meets Olivia. Intensely attracted to her from the moment they meet, it doesn't take long for Carter to pursue her. But when the sassy brunette resists his advances, it makes Carter work harder - and spending time together makes him realize that he wouldn't mind taking a chance with her. Unfortunately, Olivia is well aware of Carter's reputation, and she can't trust that his sudden change of heart is the kind that will last. Never did Carter think that his playboy ways would catch up to him in such a major way, and now he has to earn the trust that Olivia is so hesitant to give.

I've had this on my kindle for a few months, and it wasn't until the audio version released that I decided to take the plunge. Devoting 20 hours to a book by a new-to-me author is always a little risky, but I am SO GLAD that I took the chance on this one. Playboys always seem to fall the hardest, and that is definitely the case here. I loved getting to know Carter, and seeing him be totally gone for his girl was immensely fulfilling. This balances swoony moments with drama and angst, ratcheting up the tension in all the best ways. We see Carter WORK for what he wants, and that was such a breath of fresh air. The page count was required to truly see their progression from strangers to lovers to soul mates with the strongest of bonds. And having a smitten hero is its own reward, with some incredibly heartwarming moments between them... and plenty of hot, SPICY moments as well. It's such a journey from start to finish, and I can't believe how engrossed I was the entire time.

Audio note: I highly recommend the audio! I'd never heard of either narrator before starting, but they both give great performances in this dual narration audiobook. The female narrator gives a solid performance, but it's the male narrator who really takes things up a notch. He embodies Carter perfectly, this sexy hockey bro who is out of his element. Listening to the narration was a definite upgrade from simply reading the text, and it also helps makes the experience more immersive. I can't say that I recommend this as a workday listen though - there are steamy situations throughout, lots of language, and, honestly, the story is so good that you might find it too distracting to work, lol. At least I did. The runtime is also prohibitive, because 20 hours means you'll be listening for AT LEAST two days, probably more. So it's much more conducive to a weekend binge, but definitely worth the experience.

Adorable hockey romance with good narration

5 ⭐️ 3 🌶️
This was one of my top 5 sports romances of the year and overall top 22 of 2022. Ollie and Carter were super cute. I liked the narrators a lot! Alex Kydd’s Canadian accent for Carter was perfection!

If you are looking for your next hockey romance with a reformed player, this is it! Carter is just hilarious with how obsessed he is with Ollie.

“I one thousand percent love you more than Oreos.” -Carter

Cute, cheesy, but terrible voice actors

I really love this book. It’s one of my favorites. It’s cheesy and cute and a very nice read when you want a love story that isn’t super high stakes. Just a super sappy story of two people falling in love.

I bought this audiobook so I could listen while working, but the narrators are horrible. Especially the female. No emotions whatsoever. Couldn’t make it past two hours. I don’t even want to know what a train wreck the narration is during the spicy scenes.

Also, I can’t for the life of me wrap my head around if you’ve already hired 2 voice actors to play two characters, why they wouldn’t use their voices for their lines when it’s told from the other’s POV. I couldn’t stand the male narrator’s voice when he was trying to “sound” like Olivia in Carter’s POV and the female narrator trying to sound like a dude in Olivia’s POV. You literally already have the voice actors, USE THEM!!!

I will never purchase another audiobook with these voice actors.

Again, this is a really cheesy lighthearted book and I love it, but I definitely wasted a credit getting this audio version.

DNF...I thought this was a book for adults...

This was a DNF for me. This is my first book by this author and I really wanted to like it. It has a lot of my current reading interests in it. Hot hockey player, the male MC falls first and it had room for some good drama in there because of his ‘player’ status as a famous wealthy athlete. I also liked that it was a longer book. I like to listen to audio books at work and this one was 20+ hours. The reviews I read were pretty good and it had a good rating on multiple platforms (amazon, audible, goodreads, etc.). So, I took the plunge…

What a disappointing plunge that was. I haven’t really done in-depth research on the author, but I assume she’s on the younger side. The vernacular that was used was awful. If I have to read another book that has ADULTS (this is not a YA, teen, New Age/college age book) saying things like “Amazeballs” “Bestie” and/or “Catching Feelings”, I’m going to stop reading books altogether. Swear to God, I will become violent if the word “Yeet” is anywhere in a book and used unironically.

Now onto the very flat, one-dimensional characters. I listened to about 4 hours of this book, which, I think, is a fair amount to get a good read on the contents and characters. Not only do they talk like they are in high school, but they behave the same way. These are not adults in the real world. The MC, Carter, is a millionaire hockey player in Canada. The way he messes around on the ice before and during the one game that was described, would’ve gotten him fired from that team. The amount of times we had to listen to the female MC, Olivia, long for sweat pants, or to lounge around the house with no bra on, was ridiculous. I get it, she wants to be comfy and likes to take off her shoes in other people's houses and walk around barefoot. If you don’t want to wear high heels, or whatever, then don’t. Again, you’re not at a college frat house and 18 years old.

Olivia, right from the start, and with no real background on it (maybe it’s later in the book?) dislikes Carter, on sight. There was a fleeting mention that it was because he’s a man whore in her eyes, but it still doesn’t account for how she behaves when they meet. Then, when the very first misunderstanding (the first chance for some possible drama to spice up the book) where Olivia agrees to go out to eat with Carter and then immediately finds him in a ‘compromising’ position with a hot red head (not compromising and not sure why we are supposed to think it was. Again, adults not acting like adults), Olivia storms off and leaves him. The very first time they meet up again after this ‘incident’, he is immediately forgiven and queue Olivia explaining that it was because she wasn’t as hot as that red head was and couldn’t measure up to that type of woman. Barf. Jealousy is a good way of adding drama to romance novels, but there needs to be some stick-to-itiveness in there. If she’s mad at him then there’s no reason for her to hang out with him a couple of days later and act like everything’s cool.

The last straw for me was the sex scene. Why, for the love of everything, is Carter constantly described as holding Olivia down by the neck??? Did I stumble into a BDSM book and not know it? If that’s what it was, then that needs to be explained, because my brain cannot picture a way that “holding her down by the throat” isn’t the beginning of a horror snuff book. Did I stop too soon? Does Carter murder Olivia by choking her to death? Maybe that makes the book better. Wouldn’t be sorry to see either of them not make it to the end. Anyone who’s read this whole book please let me know (Though I doubt I’ll lose any sleep over it).

So, unfortunately, I will not be adding anymore books by this author to my Kindle or Audible anytime soon. I don’t like doing negative reviews for a book, but hopefully this can warn anyone else who might have the same issues that I do with these types of books.

Mushy high school ish romance puppy luv novel

The story line was a typical romance novel mixed with adult romance erotica and then the average adult drama problems with insecurities of mixing nobodies with big time athletes. I get that. But the mushy 10+ chapters of repeat narrative was overkill. 56 chapters could have been easily 40 chapters and the big climax of a problem was solved in 2 chapters which didn't fit the complexity of this novel.

LOVE BAD BOY GONE SOFT

I loved Ollie and Carter not to mention all of the other characters. It was really good just wish the misunderstanding was not there so late in the book. Overall it was one of my favorite reads.

Loved the narrators

This book really had no action. Little drama, little climax and didn’t really excite me until near the end. Definitely just a romance book. Narrators really kept me intrigued.
