Publisher's summary

For those in the final stages of awakening:

Things become much more simplified at the end of the spiritual search...so much so that it's possible to identify key stages that every seeker encounters immediately preceding awakening (enlightenment). So in one sense, these five steps have not been invented by me. I have simply segmented the final stages that a seeker of truth encounters when they have reached the end of the spiritual search (for greater clarity and guidance).

If you've been on the spiritual path long enough, you've probably reached the conclusion that no technique or practice can wake you up, make you free, or make you enlightened. You will have likely realized that all effort to attain a different state of consciousness can only ever come from a delusional state of consciousness or false self.

So what does one do then when one realizes such a thing? If there's nothing that you can do to set yourself free, then how do you become free? Enter the five final steps of self-inquiry.

The Method is based upon the understanding that spiritual awakening is not an attainment, but a dissolution. These five steps are intended to permanently dissolve the deeply ingrained belief that you can make yourself free. If these steps are followed through with utter totality, awakening will be what's left as a byproduct.

While no methods 'work' when it comes to awakening, all methods fail... so in a way, any method can be helpful to exhaust the seeker in you. This method has been formed specifically for those who have tried every other method under the sun and are ready for defeat. This method is intended to be the last method.

Unbelievably helpful

I cannot believe how much is explained in this book. It’s like it was written for me. I’m blown away. I am so thankful I found this book, it’s like someone reaches out and hold my hand and reminds me that everything is OK.

Excellent delivery of truth. Kyle reaches it in a way anyone on the path can

Fantastic self inquiry book. The Q&A delivery is a great way to help listeners following along stay on track. This had a Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle feel to it. This might be even more thorough. Great job to the author.

Helpful pointers to awakening

The author does a good job in explaining the state of awakened awareness, and how everything is perceived by one who is awakened. The book is read by the author, and he is easy to understand and listen to.

Kyle is an awesome teacher. An awesome book

This is a short book but I am finding that I am listening and re-listening to it because every sentence is rich and meaningful. It pretty much asks & answers every question I’ve had over the years with my own spiritual growth. Kyle speaks of his own awakening and that is helpful to the reader. I am looking forward to working with Kyle one on one!

Wow!

The pointers in this book are absolutely no pun intended “mind blowing.”
I really love the way he explains everything in the beginning and then the question and answers are very very insightful… This is a book that I will listen to over and over again as I exhaust my search for the true meaning of what can’t be explained.

Sick of Seeking in Non-Duality/Advaita?

This is for pretty much anyone on a journey to find their true nature BUT is especially a great book if you are so sick of seeking that you fear you might cough up your toenails and an ancestor or 4. I've been listening to this book off and on for about 4 years now, it helped in some minor insights when I first got it and I continued to listen to it over the years. I finally got to a point that it was understood that the mind can never figure out non-duality so what now? Give up? Surrender? What does that really mean? Came to the end of the ego, it had ran out of energy and I was exhausted beyond words and decided to listen to this "gem" again and realized the depth and significance this little book has on ending the search, stopping the seeking, dissolving the separate self and a lot of other useful information in between. Btw, please send email to or call Audible and ask them to continue to make an app for Windows, supposedly this app I am using now will be gone in June and will be forced to use a crappy phone...if they can make one for phone, surely they can make one for Windows. Thanks.

The Emperor has no clothes!

Over the past year, I've listened to upwards of a dozen titles that share a loose collection of links with awakening / enlightenment / meditation / yoga / Buddhism. It's been a pretty mixed bag but with some remarkable high spots. This was not one of them.

Several of the works have been outstanding - robustly argued, clearly presented, beautiful in concept, life-changing in the level of insight delivered. In this group have been: "The Science of Enlightenment" (Shinzen Young), "Why Buddhism is True" (Robert Wright), "A Life Worth Breathing" (Max Strom), "Evolutionary Enlightenment" (Andew Cohen) and, at a more practical "how to" level, "Headspace" by Andy Puddicombe.

There was a bunch of "blah" stuff in the middle - OK but not fully engaging because each failed on one of the dimensions outlined above - I won't list them all as it won't add enough value.

But this one is off the bottom of the scale. The concepts hinted at are the usual (wonderful) suspects. But they are alluded to in such a muddled way that I couldn't be sure what the message was. It wasn't even clear which of them was being referred to at any particular time. There was no clearly laid out method. It was an immense and sustained effort not to click "OFF". The burbled and garbled stream of vaguely relevant words was just so frustrating. It is as though the author has made everything much more mysterious than it needs to be.

I won't return it to Audible. I recognise some responsibility for my disappointment because I allowed myself to be taken in by the 4.9 stars rating without putting more effort into listening through the sample. Generally I don't like to leave negative reviews. Over the past while, most of the reviews I've left have been five stars - because these are the books that really wowed me. Those that wow me less, I usually remain silent on. But in this case, a 4.9 star average rating is so misleading that I feel obliged to leave this feedback.

Sorry, Kyle - this didn't do it for me.
