Summary of the Full Length Audiobook by JKZ

I really enjoyed this summary of Jon Kabat-Zinn's Wherever You Go, There You Are. I've listened to other audiobooks by JKZ but not this particular one. I thought the summary was a great shorthand version of understanding mindful meditation and the book. In fact, listening to this summary makes me more interested in purchasing the actual audiobook. Knowing that his Mindfulness Meditation for Pain Relief is helpful for me perhaps this audiobook will also be helpful. I've gotten a lot of mileage from the abovementioned audiobook.

I'm a work in progress of midfulness meditation and a great fan of Jon Kabat-Zinn and the work he does.

If someone is new to this, I would suggest giving it a try. Meditation isn't religion specific. Anyone can do this.

Jim Sartor did a fantastic job narrating this audiobook. He had a smooth, steady voice which was easy to listen to and enjoyable.

Attune to now..

My life like everybody else's is packed full of hectic decision making chaos.
I requested this book in exchange for my honest review because I need that reminder to tune it out and be more aware of what's going on around me in the moment.
This very short book about mindfulness does just that.
This listen helped me to tune out the chaos that makes me anxious and irritable so that I can connect with the peaceful stillness that is my now.
Enjoying this book for just a few short minutes helped set the tone for the rest of my day.
I am more relaxed and aware of the significant points.
I think Jim Santor did a good job narrating so that the point could come across clearly.
I recommend this book for anyone who sometimes finds life distracting.

Kabat-Zinn encapsulated

I have been enjoying Jim Sartor narrating Chimp Robertson's Billy Howard western series. On seeing this offering of Kabat-Zinn's work narrated by Jim I was curious. He is not typecast and I thoroughly appreciated this audio book. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Best if you've read the full book

What does Jim Sartor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator was too slow for me but the speed controls fixed that. His tone feels very natural which I think is probably extra important when you're discussing these introspective mood-related ideas. A shift in tone or mood could have made this same material feel clinical and academic instead of personal.

Any additional comments?

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The obvious answer is: of course, it's not even 30 minutes long.

Actually though, this brevity changes everything. If you put this on 2x speed, then 13 minutes later you'll wonder why anyone found these bullet points to be anything other than the most shallow possible intro to meditation 101. However, each chapter is a summary of enough information to bear pondering for quite a while. Although, if you're speed-reading a book about meditation and being present in the moment, this subject material is already not for you.

This summary is also a reference guide. You can return over and over to the select chapters that you need to work on or that you need reminders of. Then you can listen to that 2-3 minute chapter and let that rekindle the thoughtfulness on that point.

Additional comments

I see the value here as being a supplement to having read the full book. As a supplement, these concise reminders are shorthand for the full lessons that they summarize.

I want to give this 5 stars, because as a companion piece, it deserves 5 stars. Since I'm only evaluating this one work though absent of its source material, this summary may have limited value. I do not recommend it as a stand-alone. I do recommend it as a kind of pocket guide supplement.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Basic information to help with your meditation

I thought this audio book has a lot of really good information. I found the narration a bit distracting. The voice just was hard for me to concentrate. But that is most likely a personal thing. I found the information very basic which is good for those starting out in meditation. I would recommend this to others who are struggling with keeping their minds quit. I really like the fact that the author stresses that meditation is not connected with any religion. As a Christian I find meditation a wonderful experience but have been told by others that it is not a christian thing to do WRONG!

Cliff Notes Summary

In this brief "cliff-notes" version of Jon Kabat-Zinn's Wherever You Go, There You Are, you have a whole new understanding of what it is to have mindfulness meditation. At one point I will need to listen too, or read the full book but this summary is really a great reminder to get your head back into being able to meditate or begin to understand what meditation is and for. I, myself, have never meditated. I have often thought about it, but can never seem to be able to sit that still for long. After listening to this summary, I understand that meditation isn't just about sitting still in a quiet space and not thinking about things. Jim Sartor does an excellent job with narrating. Listening to his voice adds to starting the road to your meditation.

If you need a short daily reminder of get back in a good peaceful mindset that meditation is for you, then this Summary Jon Kabat-Zinn's Wherever You Go, There You Are is a great addition to your audio book library.
