Publisher's summary

Start as a RECRUIT...become a SUPER-SOLDIER...end up a GALACTIC WARLORD.

Don your armor, load up on ammo, and get ready for your combat training. You don't become a badass by signing on the dotted line, you gotta earn it the hard way...same goes for your team. You have to learn to fight, how to work together, and how to lose...for the ancient origins of humanity on Earth are dark, devastating, and destined to return. Earth is going to lose, and lose badly when our time is up, but out of the ashes of defeat, we may be able to scrounge up a future if you and the other future warlords can learn how to overcome the losses and turn them to our advantage.

And the one advantage we have is the repository of ancient knowledge left behind when our former masters abandoned Earth during a civil war. They assume everyone died, but a few human slaves remained and now we live only because of that mistake.

But they didn't just make one. Their second was leaving the most heavily defended and valuable building on the planet intact because destroying it along with the others when they bugged out would be too time-consuming. Instead, they buried it and now we have limited access to the advanced technology and database inside. From it we know the truth about our ancestry, as well as the superhuman powers they laced into our genome...and because of those powers, any human not under their direct control carries with them an automatic death sentence.

So when we're found out, we're all going to die...unless you and your team can grow into the war leaders we need, figure out how to use the ancient technology as well as those who created it, and find a way to do the impossible and overcome a galactic empire millions of years old. An empire known as the V'kit'no'sat, which Earth hilariously misinterpreted as a group of extinct animals called the Dinosaurs.

Too many narrators but still good

This narrator's accent is kind of annoying. grav sounds like grey and that's just one problem.

The Narrator

The book is fantastic. The story line is fantastic. I recommend this book to everybody I know. Just the book.

The narrator in this specific set has the worst grammar. I understand he has an accent but the amount of mispronounced words makes listening to the book a pain. It’s difficult to keep up with the story when you constantly have to wonder what the narrator is trying to say due to mispronunciation.

Again, fantastic book and series. Awful narrator.

another awful narrator

Narrator was almost as bad as the one who did the first 4 books. Story was fine.

Great story but pronouncation could use worm

Love the story but could use a racial index of what each race is both the dinos and all the one ones. The one thing that made me reduce my performance rating is the narators pronouncation of words like grav droves or anti grav and concussion etc. I much prefered the pervious narator

Good story, terrible narrator

As usual with Starforce, love the story and scenes. That being said, this was by far the worst narrator of any Audible book I've listened to, with over 300 titles in my library. Not sure if it's a dialect thing, or English as a second language thing, but the pronunciation was distracting and frustrating to listen to. What kind of sci-fi reader pronounces "nanites" as "nan-ah-tees"? Seriously?!

Why are all the narrators so bad?

There have been several narrators for this series but only one or two have even come close to what could be considered passable. Many, including this one, cannot pronounce basic English words. Which is ironic since this reader is English. It took a bit to realize what he was talking about when pronouncing certain technobabble from the series. Most of which is fairly straightforward in how it should be pronounced. It doesn't seem like most of these readers have ever read a sci fi story before. Sometimes I would cringe at certain pronunciations of words because they are so common that you would not expect anyone to mispronounce them. This is one of the first series that I have listened to where the reader does not stay consistent throughout the whole series and sadly the new readers don't seem to get better ... only worse. All of this is such a shame because the series is very good. None of my complaints have to do with the author. Sadly I think these poor readers turn many off to the series before they can make it more than a few books in.

Narrator Was Terrible

The narrator did not follow the cadence of the text (pausing at incorrect times, and not pausing when he should). Also, he continually mispronounced several words, making the story difficult to follow.

Still worth it…

I decided to go ahead and roll the dice on this set. I had gifts offered and decided to ask for parts of this series. This series is my favorite progression Sci-fi and empire building! I have already read this one twice before getting this on audiobook.
I was unsure about this audiobook with the reviews about the narrator… which I do agree that there are heavy accent issues and bad pronunciation from time to time but I still enjoyed it. Even willing to still listen to this one when I go back through this series in a few years.

Good story, painful narration

I like how the story filled in extras and took care of some loose ends. However the narrator was terrible- actual reading was painful to listen to. Examples:
Rendezvous= “Ren-de-zev-us”
Anti-grav= “Anti-grey”
Quadruped= “Quadrooped”
Biped= “Bi-p’d”
There are plenty more examples but you get the idea. Also there are many times when he misread or paused and started again but both sound clips were present (mistake and all). It’s really a shame because he nailed the tones of the characters.

the story was good, but.....

and a traitor on this book was trash. I think you guys should get readers that have actually read the stories beforehand.
