Publisher's Summary

First of My Kind is the story of Nathan Myers, a Missouri farm boy who, through a chain of events that happens halfway across the galaxy, finds his way from the seat of his Grandfather's tractor to the command of a starship from a lost super race.

Nathan will tell you in his own words about the life and death struggles he encounters on his journey. He will tell you about the humor, peril, and pain of his galactic education. Even with the help of an eccentric A.I. and the most unlikely of allies, he still finds it easy to lose his humanity to the horrors and injustice of a galaxy no one could have imagined.

Great start meh finish

The writing is decent and takes awhile to get going but it felt like the author tried to do too much. Still parts are engaging and entertaining but the last half felt like a bit of a slog. Author has potential and the book is a good plane trip listen. New narrator for me was very good.

Main character has 6th grade personality

The main character is portrayed as a hyperactive young adult with the knowledge of a low level 6th grade student, "dumb everything down for me" he orders repetitively. This could be a better story without the hokey farm boy story level.

Hard for me to finish

I think I might be enjoying this book more if it had a different narrator. I am little more than halfway through the book, and I think all of the characters sound whiny and wimpy.

Edit: I did finish the book, and overall I'm glad that I did. My previous comments, however, stand.

good read

a good story. it does provide emotions to alien races that are more similar to human emotions and human responses in certain situations as opposed to completely alien responses so that makes it less of a definite human alien interaction as opposed to human and unusual human interaction. overall still very good story with relatively Nonstop Action. Some of the action does however become a little bit on the repetitive side.

Incredibly cheesy and unbelievable

This was one of my most unpleasant listening experiences. The entire plot is so cliche, cheesy, and unrealistic. Everything is incredibly convenient for the main character. I tried multiple times to finish this book but the cringe wouldn't let me. I ended up returning it.

outstanding!!!

great story - smooth nerration

With nerration that brings the characters to life and a story so engaging that you will have a hard time putting it down - what more could you ask for?

Stop hesitating and buy it!

First of my kind review

The main character was terrible!. Left humanity to fend for itself, in order to play hero in the galaxy.

Not really Science Fiction

After a very long setup this story does encounter an alien space craft and the balance happens in outer space. However the bulk of this story telling involves war, battles, blood, body parts, explosions, strategy, . . . The fact that it happens in outer space does not make it good science fiction. If you enjoy reading about the epic battle this could be for you. I only read through chapter 37. It was not my kind of story.

Nothing but an inventory of guns.

The author hooked me for 2 chapters. I tought he was going to tell a story. NOPE. Nothing but indiscriminate gun fire.

Non-stop

A video game like quest with power ups and lots of action. A great escape.
