Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best seller Alessandra Torre....

I have three months to write the last book of my life. Three months to confess the details of that day, and how it changed everything for me.

My name is Helena Ross. I've written 15 romance novels, 10 of which have become international best sellers. But this one isn't a romance, no happily ever after in place. This novel holds only the truth, which I have run away from for four years. The truth, which I have hidden from the police, from my loved ones, from the world.

This final book?

It's my confession.

Ugly cry good

This audio ripped my heart out and left it on the floor. I’ve never listened to an audio that had me so emotional. This Audio kept me engaged from beginning to end. The way the author navigated the story while hinting, twisted, and eventually pulling out a trump card I would have never seen coming was beautiful, poetic, and heartbreaking. The narrator did such a fabulous job of giving all the characters so much personality from fragile and broken, to strong and supportive. Bravo. A five star Audio all the way around.

Meh

Overall, the book was fine. I didn’t feel that the “plot twist” was really impactful, because I don’t feel that there was any hint dropping leading up to that point that made me want to reread it and say “oh, I could’ve guessed it from that!” I think it left a lot to be desired. And the ending was not very satisfying. Also, the narration of this audiobook is really strange. The quality of the audio is pretty poor, spliced together in a lot of places, and the way the book was read often made it confusing especially at first.

Powerful and well written

Well crafted story, with interesting characters and enough intrigue to keep me anxious for the next chapter. The narration was...odd, but I eventually got used to it.

Wish I had read this one

Well written, fascinating story. Completely marred for me by poor editing. Probably the worst of any audio book I've ever listened to. It's distracting when the rhythm of the story is suddenly assaulted by a single word dropped in with a completely different pitch and tone, or a sentence patched together so tightly that two of the words run into each other. And although the annoying, slightly whiny, almost monotone millennial voice was in keeping with the main character, it was incredibly annoying. I have turned off books with fewer problems than this one, so I guess that speaks to the quality of the writing and the story. Still, I wish I had bought the book instead of the audio.

Great story. Bad recording and narration.

Loved this story! ...but the recording was awful and the narration was quite annoying at times.

Baits you in and won't leave you disappointed

Baits you in and doesn't leave you disappointed. Starts a little slow but you won't be able to stop reading once you get about a quarter's of the way through.

Captivating story with poor quality narration

This is not my usual type of book, but all the great reviews got me to give it a try. It's a quick listen which I liked coming off or listening to My Dear Hamilton. The story kept me interested. I didn't think it was as shocking as some reviewers, but it definitely had some unexpected plot twists. I also read some reviewers didn't like the character of Helena. I liked her very much. I think she was a woman doing her best. She probably had some kind of mental illness, definitely postpartum depression and a difficult childhood. I appreciated that people gave her a chance despite her prickly demeanor. Unfortunately, the narration quality of this book is really poor. The pauses between chapters were so long I often checked my phone to see if it had disconnected. I didn't love the narrators voice, but it wasn't enough to turn me off the book. A very poor job editing which is unfortunate.

Gripping story

I enjoyed the way Alessandra writes. Never boring. Great detail. Good character building. I felt I knew them. Couldn’t stop listening I will definitely recommend this book to my friends Bring tissues

Mildly engaging

The story was entertaining enough and kept me engaged. But I didn't have anything close to the over-the-top emotional reactions that some readers did, if only because the heroine was not likable and more stupid than tragic. Also agree the narration was distracting --- the speaker kept changing her accent (unnecessarily) from character to character and the sound quality seemed hollow and amateurish.

Mediocre story, awful narrators

The narrator for Helena was horrible to the point she really detracted from the story. The story itself was ok but not worthy of the 4.5star rating on GoodReads. The main character was a quirky, cold, selfish and socially inept individual. The novel never really explained why or how she became that way. The book could have used additional editing. This felt like a rough draft. Can’t recommend.

Great read

I don't give 5 stars very often, but I really did love this book. It wasn't fast paced, but really had a great story. I will definately be reading more from this author.
