The first sexy, captivating, standalone novel in the brand-new Fight for Me series from NYT and USA Today best-selling author A.L. Jackson....

Rex Gunner. As bitter as he is beautiful.

The owner of the largest construction company in Gingham Lakes has been burned one too many times. His wife leaving him to raise their daughter was the last blow this single dad could take. The only woman he'll let into his heart is his little girl.

Rynna Dayne. As vulnerable as she is tempting.

She ran from Gingham Lakes when she was 17. She swore to herself she would never return. Then her grandmother passed away and left her the deed to the diner that she once loved.

When Rex meets his new neighbor, he knows he's in trouble.

She's gorgeous and sweet and everything he can't trust.

Until she becomes the one thing he can't resist.

One kiss sends them tumbling toward ecstasy.

But in a town this size, pasts are bound to collide. Caught in a web of lies, betrayal, and disloyalty, Rex must make a choice.

Will he hide behind his walls or will he take the chance....

Thank you to the author and to the editor for understanding the English language, for understanding grammar and punctuation and to the author for writing such a sweet story with great character development, keeping good pacing, etc. so forth. She had me at single dad!!! I love books with great single dads and Rex is a seriously great dad who really thinks of his daughter first. This book was so sweet and hot and full of suspense!
Rynna is a awesome characters, she has a damaged past but she is back and trying to move on with her life and do what is right. When she meets Rex, she sees though his mean guy attitude even though he keeps trying to push the world away. I love when the way a women treats a man's kids is what melts his protected heart. Great book but that isn't surprising, I love all things AL Jackson.

Great narration as always by Andi Arndt & Zachary Webber!

WONDERFUL.. AND I'M SIMPLY IN AWE OF A.L. JACKSON

Yet again Ms. Jackson has blown me away with an emotional and beautiful story with complex characters and a well-paced romance. It totally gripped me from the start and kept me captivated until the final beautiful words were spoken. I'd been anxiously waiting for this book's release after reading about it in Amy's Newsletter.. and, like all this talented author's books, it didn't disappoint. Her unique writing style, endless abilities and powerful words created a perfect romance. Rynna and Rex's story of sacrifice redemption and love was all I'd hoped it would be and much much more as these two damaged souls slowly shared their painful heartbreaking secrets, opened up, saved each other and cherished what they had fought so hard for.. love. And, in doing so, they created an unbreakable family unit.

Worth a credit? Oh boy YEAH.. this dual POV story was so well written, very entertaining, sexy (but not drowning in it), romantic, heartfelt, compelling and exciting. The electric chemistry, the emotional angsty push-pull storyline, the romance with its clever conceals riveting reveals and deadly drama, gave me butterflies, goosebumps, chills and many anxious moments. These two damaged vulnerable characters slowly unveiled themselves to each other by fighting against, fighting with and finally fighting FOR one another. In amongst the romance, the angst, the heartache, the intrigue, the turmoil, the suspense and the drama were such tender breathtaking words and profound sentiments you can't help but sigh.. and gasp.. and swoon. The awesome narration by Andi and Zachary brought every emotion, every scene and every character to life and their combined talents helped to make this a perfect five star listen.

cute but predictable

this is a cute romance story and its worth listening to but the story is very predictable and outside of the main characters who were simple and not very strong, there was not much to offer, you meet then quickly forget everyone else.

All moments matter

For me, if a book has me bawling, laughing & swearing, then it’s a truly awesome book. This book had me doing all three. Rex is a single dad to a totes adorbs pre-schooler. He owns a construction company that’s working on revitalizing a section of town. Rynna returns to her hometown after her grandmother’s death. She had run 12 yrs ago after a traumatic experience. Now Rynna is back and trying to renovate her g-mom’s diner and living across from the hot, but grumpy, single dad and his daughter. Both are broken from the past, will they let each other into their lives? When secrets from the past return, will the fledgling relationship survive? After some evil ex drama, we get an HEA...so worth the read-listen!!!

Wonderful sexy romance!

I loved this audiobook story, about two people with pain in their pasts who find each other in a small Alabama town. The hero has a little girl and the heroine has returned to her hometown to restore her grandmother (who recently died) legacy diner. It’s a tempestuous story with a wonderful ending. Narration was excellent!

Last 1/3 is beyond annoying

I think the story had alot going for it in the beginning. But both main characters just turn the last couple of hours into a cluster f of stupid decisions and stupid decisions. Not like one, out of pressure, where you can write it off. But several of the kind that if it would have been a movie you would sit and say to the screen ”don’t go in there, don’t do it, don’t be so stuoid, call 911 first”. So, I want credit back for the last extremely irritating hours.

Little Thief & Her Pie!

Emotional turmoil wrapped up in a heart squeezing, edgy, heat-laden package!
LOVED this broken man who lives only for his daughter until the neighbor next door moves in!
The maddening but beautiful story they have to tell is one I did not want to stop listening too!
Excellent narration! IMO did the characters justice!
Well worth the credit and has me moving directly on to book 2!

Another fantastic A L Jackson book!

This was a fantastic, page-turner of a book - the narration by Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt as always just superb! What a beautiful story - with romance, intrigue and emotions that just made you want to keep listening! The characters of A L Jackson are so well written they are easy to picture and the narrators get it just right too. My favourite book for a long time and one to listen to or read again. Highly recommended.

Loved it! Really brought the book to life.

I mainly listen to audiobooks that I have already read.

I thought the narrators were brilliant and really brought the story to life. I adored the story when I read it and I loved this narration. Thoroughly recommend!

This is my original book review:

OMG! What a beautiful, heart-rending read!

"Everything about Rex Gunner was unique. Blinding in his darkness. Warm in his coldness."

Rynna Dayne is back in Gingham Lakes after running away eleven years ago. She's finally returned, stronger, more confident, and determined to carry on her Gramma's legacy, although beneath the surface, her old fears and hurts haunt her. She never expected to meet Rex Gunner and his adorable little girl, Frankie Leigh. She never expected them to steal her heart.

"Maybe I'd known it then. That this girl would wreck me. Because I could feel myself coming apart. Piece by piece."

Rex Gunner is closed off. He has a handful of good friends, his wonderful mother, and his precious little girl, who is his whole world, his reason for living. The past plagues his dreams, and his guilt is a heavy burden that he carries. He has nothing left to offer, especially to the beautiful woman who moved in across the street, who is threatening his sanity, his peace of mind, and the walls around his heart.

"Maybe what struck me most was there was something sad about him, too. Something helpless and scared beneath all the harsh, hard dominance he wore so well. Something bitter and broken."

This book gripped me straight off the bat. The author had the whole story on full throttle right from the opening lines. It was saturated in electricity, emotions and angst. The connection between the characters sizzled and burned, propelling them forward into a relationship that had Rex kicking and screaming against it, and Rynna welcoming it with open arms, willing to take a chance.

From their first meeting, Rex was grim and rude, but Rynna recognised something in him that called to her. I loved that she never gave up trying to break through to him, and the passion! OMG! Rex was a mass of seething emotions. He was a bubbling cauldron of anger, desire, guilt, and helplessness that was constantly threatening to boil over. He was such a contradiction - so hard and unpleasant toward Rynna but then so, so soft and gentle with his little girl.

"Last two times I touched you nearly ruined me. Seeing you like this? Don't think I'm ever going to be the same. Stealing my sleep. Stealing my breath. Stealing my sanity. Little thief."

This novel totally stole my sleep and stole my breath. It was a fantastic tale with plenty of twists and turns, with flashbacks to the past, weaving a story rich with love, betrayal, despair, and hope. It was a stunning read.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!

I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THIS BOOK!!
I listened to this in audio and not only was the narration brilliant but it brought the characters, emotions and feelings to life, I was completely captivated and caught up in Rynna and Rex's story.

The book begins with Rynna moving back home to her Grandmother's house with a plan to take over her legacy as the local baker. Rynna was a victim in her childhood of bullying and torment. A sick and twisted joke broke her to the point that she fled and moved away leaving her Grandmother who she loved dearly and had been her only relative.

Single dad Rex, well, all I can say about Rex is, his bark is definitely worse than his bite and I wouldn't of minded his bite. Rex comes across at first as the guy with a chip on his shoulder, the silent brooding type and rude but put him in the company of his little girl Frankie and he's as sweet as one of Rynna's apple pies and oh what a turn on that was.

“All moments matter. We just rarely know how important they are until the chance to act on them has already passed.”

From the moment neighbors, Rex and Rynna meet there is instant chemistry, Rex instantly hates her for giving him feelings he thought he had not only buried but would never feel again.

Two people with hurts in their past, Rynna is a woman wanting to move on and put her past behind her, face her fears now she is back in her childhood town and then you have Rex who can't let his past go, still living in his hurt and anger with the centre of his world Frankie his only joy. One willing to be brave and another struggling to take a chance.

A beautiful romance with a beautiful outcome and eta. Show me the way is the kind of story that has you thinking that maybe some things do happen for a reason and those reasons bring people together.

A recommended heartfelt romance, brilliantly written with a great balance of emotions and hotness. Told in first person dual pov and leads to a hea. Can be read as a stand-alone.

This is my third five star read from this author and I cannot wait to read more. A.L Jackson fulfills what I look for in a romance read.

Amazing!

4.5 stars! You can always count on AL Jackson to deliver on angsty stories chock full of FEELS with lovable characters! SHOW ME THE WAY is an emotionally charged story that sucked me in right from the start! I loved Rex, Rynna and of course the adorable Frankie Leigh!

My qualms which made me rate this 4.5 instead of 5 was the trademark AL Jackson narrative - the repetition of words, and the annoying “nicknames” that is also repeated (“little thief”). And also it irked me that the hero and heroine’s past secrets are always dragged out and only revealed later on.

Despite my qualms though, this story was still AMAZING! I loved the audio team of Andi Ardnt and Zachary Webber!

great read

I loved Frankie so muuuuuch. that kid was like sunshine whenever her her dialogue was on, I loved how genuine and innocent she is and how her dad interacts with her and is ao patient while also dealing with his demons. Enter the little thief of his misery and I loved watching Rex grow with her around, with her cherry pies and being there for the two of them through thick and thin. I gotta say, that plot twist sure just showed how ugly some people are but seeing good win in the end just made the story so well rounded. its well paced and full of sad as is the sunshine.

Barely saved by narrators

Honestly, I prefer my romance books more realistic, even as fantasy-based genre. I used my fast forward button frequently to jump past too much flowery speech/introspective thoughts. I even cringed through the lovemaking scenes with the flowery dialogue they somehow managed to have during supposedly hot sex. no one talks like that. I found the drama too over the top with the historical and present exes. I did enjoy the kid though, and strangely thought the male narrator did her best. the female narrator was good, not great. her tone towards the end of her sentences is a little odd, lije she was saying something ironic, when it clearly isn't. really glad I didn't spend much on this one.

Not as good as others

I usually love AL Jackson books, even if heart wrenching most of the time. This one just didn’t have the grip on my like her previous ones. I’ll still listen to the next in the series once released, more so to hopefully get to know the answer to the Sydney mystery. This one was a bit predictable really too.
