Publisher's summary

Are you forever rushing around, fending off chronic exhaustion? Are you desperately overcommitted, afraid to say no? Do you have fang marks from being bled dry by energy vampires? Does the onslaught of violence in the news leave you drained? If so, you're the victim of a hidden energy crisis. To resolve it you need more than traditional solutions such as eating well, getting a good night’s sleep, and exercising.

Here at last is the complete prescription to stop you from feeling constantly drained and enables you to live a more vibrant life: the Positive Energy Program created by Judith Orloff, M.D.

Dr. Orloff is the pioneer behind Energy Psychiatry, a new field that addresses the subtle energetic components of health and behavior. Energy Psychiatry blends the practice of mainstream medicine with an emerging scientific understanding of subtle energies, revered by many cross-cultural healing traditions as our life force.

In Positive Energy, Dr. Orloff explains this exciting new discipline and how it led her to formulate 10 essential prescriptions for boosting energy, improving relationships, and combating energy vampires.

The prescriptions are:

  • Awaken your intuition and rejuvenate yourself - and learn the cure for technodespair and overload from emails, computers, and phones
  • Find a nurturing spiritual path that fits your own beliefs and inner stirrings
  • Design an energy-aware approach to diet, exercise, and health - and learn how to avoid the "energetic overeating" that sabotages attempts to lose weight
  • Generate positive emotional energy to counter negativity
  • Develop a heart-centered sexuality
  • Open yourself to the flow of creativity and inspiration to achieve greater joy
  • Celebrate the sacredness of laughter, pampering, and the replenishment of retreat - it’s not selfish to take care of yourself
  • Discover how to attract positive people and situations
  • Protect yourself from energy vampires with specific shielding techniques
  • Create abundance and a continuing flow of energy

The purpose of this program is to make your life easier. Each prescription has clear instructions for practicing the simple, powerful exercises Dr. Orloff gives her patients and uses herself - plus, there’s a "Treat Yourself" section to help you relax and enjoy the program’s full benefits.

Following each chapter are Dr. Orloff’s interviews with luminaries who share their personal secrets about how they use a specific prescription to generate more energy. You'll discover how Quincy Jones’s intuition opened up after brain surgery, Larry King honed his interviewing techniques, Naomi Judd recovered from hepatitis C, and Jamie Lee Curtis deals with draining people.

Dr. Orloff says, "We can't stop the negative circumstances of our time - our cell phones will keep ringing, e-mails will keep coming, people will be rude, our children will be demanding, and bad things will happen in the world. But we can learn ways to protect our energy so that we can stay centered in dealing with the stresses that arise."

Positive Energy shows you how to slow down time to match your natural rhythms, allowing you to be fully present for your life. Learning this can make the difference between an exuberant life and one you're always recovering from. Filled with Dr. Orloff's warmth, humor, and compassion, Positive Energy is your tool kit for transforming fatigue, stress, and fear into an abundance of vibrancy, strength, and love.

Excellent Content

I love the message this book put forth, but I was not happy with the reader's presentation of the message. IMHO she somehow managed to make the author seem pompous and arrogant. I've listened to other audio books read by this particular reader (novels) and have enjoyed them tremendously, but this one just didn't come across well for me. In a non-fiction audio book I think it's important to have a reader take on the persona of an author more so than in a fiction book; after all, it's the author's voice that needs to come across and not a fictional character. As I listened to this book I kept having to remind myself that it was not being read by the author. PS -- I just ended up ordering a paper copy of the book because I really liked it and wanted my husband to read it. I knew that if he tried to listen to it, he wouldn't be able to get past the reader's interpretation.

Poor read

I saw a lecture by Dr. Orloff, and would have enjoyed this book much more if it had a different reader. The reader sounds so aggressive reading, which is so unlike Dr. Orloff's speech. The reader's voice is much more suited to reading mystery books. I would suggest a paper copy of the book, because the information is very good.

Buy the book... Cynical narrator

The narrator is very cynical. I have a lot of patience and tried to get past the tone in the woman's voice... but she just put a damper on it. If your reading this review and your the author please read it in your own voice... I'll even buy it again.

Unable to listen to the READER for 12 hours

I've gone back and ordered the abridged version in the authors own voice, although I seldom buy abridged. What a waste. The reader makes the message the author is trying to present, unbelievable. Had I not heard the voice of the author on You Tube, I'd not even try the abridged version. I need to hear the sincerity of the authors voice.

Great insights

While I enjoyed the content of this book, like many others, I found the reader unacceptable. She was far too harsh speaking and it was often hard to keep listening but I tried to focus on "content" and not the way her voice carried. The book itself was good, Judith shares some good insight. I really appreciated things she wrote on emotional vampires, this helped me tremendously. The book was not appliccable to myself in some areas like dieting. In Judith's writing about foods though, I found her more knowledgeable than most physicians but very wrong in regards to certain foods to avoid or allow. If you are reading for over-eating issues she holds great advice but as far as what to eat, I would suggest looking into Dr. Joseph Mercola and others like him that specialize in healthy eating.

Terrible narration

I think the content of this book has value but I find it painful to listen to. The narration is so awful. It’s like she is forcing her way through it. I just don’t know if I can finish it.

Incredible book. Poor narration.

This is an incredible book, but maybe it better read than listened to. I was not a fan of the Narrator at all. She is very nasally and gives this book a very lecture like drag. I couldn't make it through the first chapter. If possible give it a sample before you commit to the book. See if it's your style of narration.. personally not mine at all.

Long, but good.

Enjoyed the energy and lessons. Narrator was a bit distracting. Overall, an interesting book with a few slow sections.

What I needed to hear

This book put so many of my day to day feelings into perspective, and made sense out of things I couldn't make sense of before.
