There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things - a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Achieve more with less effort: The secret to weight loss, fitness, and wellness lies in the most basic and most overlooked function of your body - how you breathe. One of the biggest obstacles to better health and fitness is a rarely identified problem: chronic overbreathing. We often take many more breaths than we need without realizing it, contributing to poor health and fitness, including a host of disorders, from anxiety and asthma to insomnia and heart problems.

In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are and learn to live and breathe freely.

Awareness awakens you to the truth that you possess everything you need right now to be happy and fulfilled. Happiness is your natural state. You don't need to do anything to acquire it; you only need to drop something. This audiobook shows you what that is. There is not a single person who ever gave time to being aware who’s quality of life didn't change. You see life differently because you are different. You respond to people and situations differently. You see things you have never seen before. Beautiful things. You're much more energetic, much more alive.

Publisher's Summary
We can do more with this life. We all know it, we all wish for it, but just how to do itthat eludes us. In his new book, A Life Worth Breathing, internationally renowned yoga teacher and spiritual philosopher Max Strom shows us the way. His groundbreaking book reaches past expected dogma in a language that is vital, inspired, and accessible. Strom leads us on a journey of self-discovery as we excavate our past in order to have a better understanding of our present.
According to Max Strom, We live in fear of terrorism but in actuality the most devastating terrorism comes from within us as we sabotage ourselves.” With practical techniques, A Life Worth Breathing offers us a path to transformation with visionary insights on forgiveness, gratitude and self-empowerment. The teachings are rooted in Yoga, Sufism and Eastern philosophy, but make no mistake, this is not just another yoga book of postures, it is a guidebook for living.
A Life Worth Breathing teaches us that by healing our past emotional wounds, silencing the inner critic that cripples us, and cultivating a yoga and breathing practice, we can elevate ourselves from the mindset of a reactionary victim to a higher level of awareness and empowerment. With these life skills we can achieve our true destiny, that of a fully integrated soul living an authentic life of meaning, success and joy. A life worth living, a life worth breathing.

A true teacher.
What made the experience of listening to A Life Worth Breathing the most enjoyable?
Max Strom's voice is incredible. It made listening very enjoyable.
The philosophy of yoga was in there -- but not disguised with modern academic-speak. While I understand those who choose to use it -- it certainly doesn't make me feel that I am diving into myself when I have to turn on my academic brain to understand that meaning.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Life Worth Breathing?
At one point I remember he paused, took a breath and sighed. I love that they left that in.
What does Max Strom bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I already said this... but his voice. I will purchase his other books just to hear his voice again.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I bought this book to aid me on my spiritual journey. This was a book I would listen to bit by bit and digest it. I will listen to it over and over again as well. It is a treasure.
Any additional comments?
This is true yoga teachings.
This is a rare find.
I feel blessed to have found it.

A concise summary of how to live a blissful and truly fulfilled life...
After reading this book, I decided to purchase several copies to give as a gift to all of my friends for Christmas. This is a very well written book - simple, concise with so much depth and humility from the author. It uses yoga and breathing as a tool to achieve a happy, healthy and fulfilled life that not only benefit yourself but everyone around you, and eventually the world. I've been practicing yoga for a little over a year, read several books on yoga including the classics, and I place this book in my top five favorites. I believe that this book given the chance can deeply touch the lives of many and encourage a spiritually based wellness lifestyle that can help change the world.

As I am new to this discipline...
...I've known of Yoga for years. However, I wasn't sure if it could fit within my "Christian" belief system. I took a chance on "Max Storm" and in my humble opinion I chose well.
His presentation seems so authentic and attentive. This was one of the most enjoyable books that I have had the pleasure to listen to.
So, I bought its hard and softcover companions because I loved it so much...like to highlight in the softcovers and keep the hardcovers clean. Only certain books get that distinction within my personal little library.
If you're on the fence about the topic of Yoga particularly if you're of the Christian persuasion - give this book a try. I would be very surprised if you could not, at the very least, glean a bit of encouragement from its content. Happy listening/reading to you. :-)

Inspiring!
Would you consider the audio edition of A Life Worth Breathing to be better than the print version?
I would highly recommend listening to Strom's reading of his book, 'A life worth breathing' if you're performing yoga for the mental and spiritual benefits as well as physical. This book helped me connect with the sense of purpose that focusing on the now during yoga, as well as life, provided me. It's a quick listen, I got through it in a week, listening about an hour a day on my headphones while I was getting other things done.

Thought provoking<br />
I appreciated that no matter what your faith is the principles in this book build upon what you already believe. It enlightens new thoughts and ways of understanding what you have been too preoccupied to see.
I love that he teaches you how to breathe. I noticed that through my new breathing techniques, though I am a beginner, everything is coming easier and I am less timid about failure.
I especially appreciated the segment about death. I found myself clapping to be understood in the way I also perceive it.
I will read this book again and again and I suspect each time I will learn something new!
update: I bought this book a long time ago. It continues to be my absolute favorite book. I have listened to it over 20 times.

Beautiful
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the underlying principles of yoga - but as well as the value of the content in its own right, I would thoroughly recommend the experience of actually listening rather than reading. I couldn't wait to get back to it at every opportunity.
What did you like best about this story?
The chapter on kindness is particularly inspiring, and the entire book is laced with compassionate and gentle wisdom.
What about Max Strom’s performance did you like?
Max Strom reads his own work well, with a wonderfully calming and soothing voice that never once becomes irritating. Listening to this book is like spending time with a very loving and reassuring friend.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I don't think this book could be made into a film.

Really Annoying
I am really interested in Eastern traditions and thought this book would enlighten me about Yoga. It claims not be about the cult of Yoga then goes on to make Yoga into a cult that westerners use to make themselves feel a little more virtuous and self righteous. It discussesYoga in a pseudo spiritual way that is offensive to the Eastern philosophy it originates from. I learnt absolutely nothings from this book about the Eastern philosophy of Yoga and the chapter in the book explaining why we should be kind and respectful to each other, including mere minions, has so little to do with Eastern philosophy and everything to do with the backward culture of the USA. If you need to get info to short circuit your one-upmanship about Yoga at your next yuppy BBQ then this is your book. If you are truly interested in Eastern religions then listen to the brilliant Alan Watts books or Joseph Goldstein. Sorry to be so harsh but this book made me very very angry which is the exact opposite of what it should have made me feel. I hate this western pseudo Eastern cult nonsense that has absolutely nothing to do with the original teachings and sadly this book is a prime example of why most of the people I know who practice Yoga are still profoundly unhappy people.

if you have one last credit, buy this
I had one membership credit left and I used it for this amazing book. It was a gamble because I knew nothing about the author or his work, but I think I will be rereading this one for a long while to come.

A wonderful listen and well read. Max’s voice is easy to listen to and the advice is timely for me.
I start beginners Hatha yoga in 5 weeks time and have also begun to let go of the clutter I have seemed to amass. Sage advice.
