Publisher's Summary

A note from the author:

Spirit of Empire is a five book series. Each book is twice as long as a standard novel, so you are getting excellent value along with a great story. Take the plunge - you will not regret it.

The story:

The Empire, hundreds of thousands of civilizations scattered across the galaxy, has been subtly invaded by the Chessori, diminutive creatures wielding a powerful mind weapon. No one can resist this terrible mind weapon, and the war is lost before anyone knows it began.

Ellandra of the Chosen, the youngest and last surviving leader of the Empire, flees the Chessori. In desperation, she lands on a little-known emerging world called Earth where she is rescued by Mike Carver, an innocent bystander. In the process, he discovers that he and the people of Earth are immune to the mind weapon.

Join Mike and Ellandra on their quest to restore the Empire to its former glory. Along the way, they will enlist many others, including:

Otis, a Great Cat, the most lethal Protector in the Empire.

Jake, a Rider, an intelligent alien mass of protoplasm. If a person could be considered a commodity, Riders would be the single most valuable commodity in the Empire. Unfortunately for Mike, Riders can only survive inside a host body.

George, a nearly sentient artificial intelligence.

Krys, a young woman far across the galaxy who receives unwelcome visions of the future. She hears Ellandra's call, but she is just an orphan. What can she do?

This is a good series which I hale already READ.

This is a sprawling series in the tradition of the great old Space Operas. I highly recommend it. Action, seemingly impossible odds and insurmountable tasks. Intrigue, betrayal and vast Empires. Try it you'll like it.

I am only rating the performance a 3 since I just started listening. I have, however, already READ all of the books in the series. I will edit the review once i have finished the book and decide just how good a job the narrator does. Hopefully, the other books will be available on Audible very soon.

Fun story, read well!

Would you consider the audio edition of Last of the Chosen to be better than the print version?

I know the author, so I was the first to review the book when it came out. I loved the book, and now that I have listened to the audiobook version, I love it too! I thought the reader did a great job and I so enjoyed listening while I mowed the yard and did other activities. I thought the reader brought a lot to the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Last of the Chosen?

I love the beginning, where the author draws you in with the opening excitement. From there you just want to keep reading!

Have you listened to any of Jared Wekenman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I'm a hopeless romantic, so I love reading about Ellie & Mike's evolving relationship.

Any additional comments?

This is a really long book!! It is 22 hours of fun, so enjoy.

could have been a good book

I had to return this book. mainly because the narrator is terrible. He tries too hard to sound edgy. His characterizations are severely lacking. especially one of the voices. he sounds like someone doing a bad Batman voice.

The story could have been good. In fact, the first chapter really pulls you in. Sadly, the story loses momentum after that. The writer just seems out of his depth. There's a lot of plot holes and the story moves along very slowly.
