Publisher's summary

The Federation races to discover the culprits of several terrorist attacks, sending their flagship, the USS Prometheus, to stop war breaking out in the galaxy.

A mysterious terrorist organisation has carried out several attacks against the Federation and Klingon Empire. Tensions are running high in a region already crippled by conflict. The perpetrators are tracked to the Lembatta Cluster, a mysterious region of space whose inhabitants, the Renao, regard the Alpha Quadrant s powers as little more than conquering tyrants. The Federation are desperate to prevent more bloodshed, and have sent their most powerful warship, the USS Prometheus, into the Cluster to investigate the threat before all-consuming war breaks out.

Please pronounce things correctly

Overall I liked the story it was entertaining and it made me want to download the next book. But what was completely annoying was that the book was read a little to slow and things, places and people’s names in the Star Trek universe were pronounced wrong. It completely took me out of the story and aggravated me. With all the star trek information available there was zero reason to mispronounce anything.

It is a good story BUT...

Story is very good. The characters are well written and they do a very good job of keeping to cannon. However there is a huge BUT. The way the reader pronounces alot of the words like Betzoid and other such words. It is obvious he has never watched Star Trek. Instead has just pronounced the words in his native dialect. It is very distracting and pulls me out of the story.

Just Dreadful

Terrible. Has about as much plot as a single TOS episode and they are somehow stretching it over 3 books! The characters are wooden and the plot uninteresting. Also the narrator has clearly never watched an episode of Star Trek in his life and is constantly mispronouncing names and places from the series. Not worth your time.

Great new series

Great new series

This series is a great new adventure into the Star Trek Family. The story was very well thought out and the narration was great . It was not as good of a narration than Robert Petkoff but the narrator was skilled in distinguishing the characters. All in all it was a great listen and I will make this series part of my library.

Terrible

This is one of the worst performances I've ever heard. The reader obviously isn't a Star Trek fan. He mispronounced several characters names and planets.
This was like a boring documentary.

Great Voice And Story!

I wasn’t sure how I would like a Star Trek book with characters I was unfamiliar with but I was pleasantly surprised. I will admit that I didn’t feel as connected with them as much as I would if it were a book from on of the television series but there were a few familiars faces at times. The narrator really pulled it all together for me. I haven’t enjoyed the narrators in the past for the Star Trek books that weren’t narrated by characters from the tv series but this narrator performed very well with the exception of a few names here and such as “Yem Hadar” instead of “Jem” and he also kept pronouncing “tal shiar” wrong as well. Those were the only two that I noted though. Over all great book and I would recommend to other Star Trek fans.

Terrible and scattered story

Boring, Slow, The Story time travels between Young Kirk and suddenly in the future with hardly any dialogue to let you know what just happened it doesnt make sense and very hard to follow and the narration everyone sounds the same and you cant hear pronunciations due to the english or Irish dialect.

Trek audiobooks are not for me

This was my first foray in audio books and in terms of Trek books it's my last. I listened for just over an hour and I just can't put up with the mispronunciation of Trek centric words e.g. Newman pronounces Risa as 'Reesa', fair enough these aren't words that are in regular use, but I would have thought an effort would be made to pronounce words in line with the Trek universe!? Trek centric words aside, the variation in pronunciation of regular words is very annoying e.g. in one sentence Newman pronounces 'echelon' the way one would expect then in the next sentence he pronounces it as 'etchelon' I don't understand why he has inserted this erroneous T. Newman's use of accents is questionable, he himself has a Scottish accent which becomes a deeper Scottish accent when reading for a Scottish character, OK that makes sense, as does his slightly dodgy American accent. However, his portrayal of Japanese woman's accent is borderline derogatory.

I'm just going to back to actually reading Trek books.

Not smart enough to be Star Trek

I found myself constantly huffing throughout this book. The federation of this era is unrecognizable to me. The federation and everyone in it seems entirely arrogant and overtly obnoxious to their allies in the Klingon empire who are reduced to the level of savages with none of the subtlety or depth that was made apparent in the TNG TV series. The federation seems to have entirely lost the art of diplomacy and is painted as a self-obsessed group of snobs.

The way the terrorists carryout their attacks is lazy and uninspired. The author has set a precedent whereby no star-base or even star-ship will ever be safe in the galaxy again against a single individual with relatively limited resources. Star-ships and star-bases and all of their defenses are now effectively useless.

Star Trek is smarter than this. This is star wars schlock (which I love but I thought I was buying Star Trek).

Not recommended to any Star Trek fan, general Sci-Fi fans with no grounding in the universe may well love it.

The performer pronounced Star Trek words wrong

I enjoyed this book it had a very good story with good characters. The only thing that got on my nerves was the way the performer pronounced Star Trek words such as Khitomer accords which he pronounced as K’tarma accords , Kahless which he pronounced as Karlass and Betazoid which he pronounced as Beetszoid. It was quite annoying but I very much enjoyed this

good story, slightly iffy Narration

I did enjoy the story however the person narrating was obviously not a Trek fan, nor had he done any research on how certain "TREK" specific words should be pronounced, therfor he mispronounced some words which was annoying and interfeared with the flow of the story. overall a good 1st instalment and I will be buying the rest of the books in the series.

good story but...

its a good story line being similar to other more recent star trek trilogys but the only problem is the narraitor (yes i have misspelt it) can not say a large number of standard trek words such as Tal Shiar or Qo'nos

Poor Narration

The narrator mispronounces almost every name, species and planet. Even the buoy was pronounced “boy”! Spoils an otherwise great story!

Really enjoyable, after initial perseverance!

This was an enjoyable Star Trek Novel, though I felt that the narrator took a few chapters to 'get into' the story properly. His initial narration has a 'going through the motions' feel, but by later chapters his performance is far more interesting and exciting. I would recommend this audiobook with the caveat that you will need to persevere a little, to begin with.

Great book

It's refreshing to hear a Star Trek book narrated with a British narrator. Well done Alex Newman. I hope to hear many more books narrated by you.

Really good story!

Interesting story that for once doesn't focus in the crew of the USS Enterprise! Only slight quibble was some unusual pronunciation of some Star Trek phrases, other than that, recommended!

Superb first book of the series

The story is well written with great characters introduced but unfortunately the narrator pronounces certain words wrong which gets irritating . Can’t wait too start book two now hopefully with less of the mispronouncing .
