Publisher's summary

After accidentally becoming Lord of Gloomwood Manor, countless enemies seek to kill Drake and take his title.

All he wanted was some beer and a pack of donuts. Instead, Drake got abducted, tossed into a fantasy world, and almost ritually executed by a pro-wrestler monk with performance issues.

After stabbing his rather idiotic kidnapper to death, he magically inherits the old fart’s massive mansion, servants, mountains of gold, and deadly magic powers... which would be great if it also didn’t paint a giant target on his back.

Now that he’s the Lord of Gloomwood Manor, enemies across the world want to claim Drake's life and title. Before that happens, he must learn to use his powerful magic, win his people’s loyalty, and fake being powerful until he actually becomes so powerful no one dares challenge him.

The first volume of a humorous adventure fantasy featuring cat girls, battle maids, political machinations, and a habit of setting the worst isekai tropes on fire and tossing them in the garbage.

great first book

I love the world that's being built, I like the mcs humor, he's very sarcastic and witty. he's not the most intelligent with his witt and I could see people not enjoying it. but the world building here is really special. the magic system is quite unique. I can see this turning into a good series

murder attempt failed

kidnapped to another world and nearly murdered, the MC turns the tables and becomes the Lord of the manor with loads of blood pacts that allow him to control his subjects. which goes against every thing he stands for. navigating his way out of this situation with out losing his head is going to take all the creativity he has. starts off slow but develops well in the end.

It's only okay

Too much thinking and too little action for my tastes.

I was given this audiobook for free and have voluntarily left this review.

...was NOT expecting that...

I have to say I've read more that a few litrpgs and each one likes to add in their own twist to add a new angle on things, ya know? sometimes it works, sometimes it falls flat.
OH MY GOSH THIS IS A KEEPER!! I can't say this concept didn't cross my own mind for a story growing up, but, as I said, you have to figure out a way to make it WORK!! and IM SO EXCITED THAT THIS WORKS!! with his completely sarcastic and back biting nature, a world like this is a treasure trove of possibly!!!

great

different then most of this genre liked how he didn't stay to long on one point but didn't just go through each rapidly spent time with background of most characters. narrator did a good job

I recommend the book

I tend to take it easy on the first book of any new series as in my experience the beginnings of any new story can be a shaky Endeavor even from a tried and true author. I'll say it front that I did enjoy the story and I am looking forward to a sequel. my understanding is that the sequel should be out April 24th. as of right now I don't know whether the audio version will come out the same time that the ebook version comes out. I've never come across this author before or the narrator both of which in my opinion did a good job. our main character gets abducted from Earth into this fantasy type world to be a part of some sort of sacrificial ceremony. the world appears to consist of a number of lands across the sea. some sort of sea creature Nation. and then the realm that our main character finds himself in. the country is made up of nine manner Lords and some sort of ruling counsel over the top of them. as you can no doubt discern from the title of the book our main character finds himself as one of those nine Lords. the nine Lords rule over the people through a blood pack that gives them absolute control. our main character being a good guy and an Earthling is not going to stand for that sort of thing. there are all sorts of fantasy creatures in this new world and some of the humans as well as those creatures have what are called Rarities or you could simply call them super powers. they range from the mundane to the truly terrifying. pass that I'm not going to share any more information as I don't want to risk ruining any of the story. I will simply say Well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the audiobook listeners.
