Contains The Expansion (book one) and The Upheaval (book two) of the Legend of the Arch Magus series.

An Arch Magus dies, only to find himself in the body of a young man in a medieval kingdom. He finds out that he is the second son of a Duke, exiled to a desolated town by his own family. Shackled by the notorious reputation of his new shell, he tries his best to develop his domain, implementing new policies and innovations, leading his subjects to prosperity. In this world where magic is undeveloped, he shall once again pave a new path.

Only complaint is that you will get tired of hearing the phrase "gnashed teeth"

Seriously.

the narrator was helpful and got a good range. it's a fantasy story about a "op main mage" died and sent to future to find the knowledge of magic decline. nothing much to expect other than he's like a God to them. problems get solve in a non creative way, mostly through money and brute force. the stories are designed to make everyone revered him and whatever amazing ideas from the past he pulls out of to solve issues. I've read through pack 5 and really the only time he faced true danger was when he faced a relic. emotional connection are at minimum and love story non existent but it's understandable since he's an old man in the child of a duke.

WORLD BUILDING is good but raising a town was a bit forced. he aims to get more power and strength at the start but there's no actual goal other than he fell in love with the town and people. I get that the story needs him to have a solid army and solid op body because later he's gonna face an army that's said to be op but the reasoning was just cause I need strength. It's bad writing when the mc most of the time passively responds to trouble on his way. especially when he's got an OP surveillance system with commanding birds to follow people and having people with mana just constantly observing what happens in town.

it's OK but only because of the performance

I have been reading/listening to books for 73 years (ok, I am old but I still enjoy a good book)... this book is one of those that gradually hooks you, (well, me ... aren't sure about you) and you desire to keep reading it ... in other words, although not in the circle of The Wise Man's Fear (something I read many years ago ... believe there was to be a third book ... at age 78, living in an age of pandemic(s), and considering the author's reluctance to write the blasted promised 3rd book) this book is really quite good .. it is an easy listen and fun to watch someone world build vs the much easier path of world destroyed... so, a good book, a long book. and a pandemic... well worth the time! David
