Publisher's summary

EMP: Equipping Modern Patriots is a harrowing story of survival after the destruction of the electric grid and nearly every electronic device in the country. Jonathan Hollerman paints a vivid and disturbing picture of society falling apart after an Electromagnetic Pulse attack against our nation.

Can you imagine a world with no phones, no TV, no internet, and no way to access your bank account? Without the electric grid, there would be no lights, no heating or air conditioning in your home, no public water, and the sewer could back up into your home. Without modern vehicles or interstate trucking, the supermarkets would quickly run out of food. Since the majority of the military is not hardened against an EMP, they would be unable to come to the aid of its citizens and maintain order. Our humanity is questioned when survival of the fittest becomes reality.

This is not only a thrilling story but offers practical, life-saving advice for an imminent threat. If you enjoyed Patriots by James Wesley Rawles or One Second After by William Forstchen, then you will enjoy this story of survival.

Who are the looters?

If 'Christian' gets to the deserted store first, before the "looters", and packs off with thousands of dollars in goods, isn't the Christian the first looter? These characters believe they are superior... and they are not. Maybe three stars are too many?

I've read lots of "end times" books. The best is "Alas Babylon". It doesn't bombard with product names and gun types.. and has a deep sense of humanity that this effort does not convey.

Stick with it

I had to come back and edit my review. The first one is ok ( I like this type of dystopian future book). I originally gave it a lower rating, but after listening to book 2 and three needed to change it. It's an amazing series, I honestly think the issue with book 1 was the reader. The change of reader in 2 and 3 changed everything. It's a really good series with interesting characters. give it a go .

I thought it would be like a text book but ended up a great story.

Enjoyed This!

So the reader lacks...smooth performance in his conversational ready, but the story? 5 out of 5. I seriously appreciate how the author takes into account how human nature works.

Great Book - Where's Book Two?

I had to buy this book, the second in the series, in the kindle format because it's not out in audio. I have diabetes and it has played havoc with my vision. They're too many days that I can not read now. Audiobooks have somewhat filled the gap in restlessness that is plaguing me, a book addict, during blurred vision periods.

This book was so good that I purchased the second book in Kindle format, just to see what happened next. On my tablet I am able to darken and enlarge the type. It took me most of the night to read the second book, but it was even better than the first. If you enjoy this genre, Jonathan Hollerman is a new author and he's well worth reading. He's good and only getting better! So is his EMP series!

Darn! I suppose I have to wait until next year for the third book to come out!

EMP: Engaged, Motivated, Preparing

Truthfully, this story isn’t for everyone. If you think something couldn’t happen like this , don’t make fun of it by reading it. Just be forewarned, it does have some information woven into the story that may be useful to some. I’m not being a “chicken little” be-crying that the sky is falling. Being prepared had been a motto of our forefathers as well as the Boy Scouts from times past. So you spend a little time or money preparing for that “ what if”. It’s a peace of mind that you can rest easier at or pass your preparedness in to your children. Someone might one day think you are a genius. The story is both informative and enjoyable with a touch of soberness. Again I’ll say it’s not for everyone because I can hear it now, “ this is crazy. It’ll never happen”. Just shut up and enjoy the storyline. Lol

another EMP based series

The only thing I didn't like about the book is the spiritual/religious moments. The author is clearly Christian oriented, which is fine in itself, but there is a strong influence written in the book and I struggled to get thru those moments. I do NOT mean to say that the author preaches, but there are several moments of prayer and other religious aspects that could have been restrained a bit. additionally, and likely due to the religious aspect, there is very little vulgarity written in, which is not realistic. Other than that, the book has some interesting insights within the story of survival.

Starts great, never fully developed

Okay, I like the Teotwawki genre but it has a problem that is epitomized in this book, it starts out great, then as the world falls apart so does the story, it seems to be a problem for this book and the genre as a whole. I like the writing, the characters are good and are really starting to get developed when things end, I know we are being set up for a sequel but I am tired of a story ending almost in mid sentence. That said I will listen to the sequel when it comes out so maybe I am the problem here. If you like "the end of the world as we know it" type of books you will find you like this book in spite of yourself, recommended but with the caveat that you are not getting the ending in this book.
