Publisher's summary

The Axis of Evil had the perfect strategy. Destroy the heartbeat of America. Invade with their million man army. But there was one thing they didn't count on...Texas.

Once again, political suspense collides with post-apocalyptic thriller fiction as sixteen-time bestselling author, Bobby Akart (The Blackout Series, The Pandemic Series, The Boston Brahmin Series and the Prepping for Tomorrow Series) intertwines historical fact with plausible fiction in The Lone Star Series.

For decades, American administrations have forced our military to be neutered in many respects - hampered by restrained rules of engagement, passed in strength by Russia and China, and tested by rogue nations like North Korea and Iran. As a result, nuclear Armageddon hangs over us like a mighty sword.

Military analysts agree that the United States can't start World War III. Why? We might lose. Sabers are rattling and the war of words escalate between America and her enemies, but the rhetoric has done little to stop the nuclear proliferation of North Korea and Iran. When the deep state, a close-knit group of powerful, influential people within our government challenges a new, untested President, things go awry.

The decisions made in the darkened rooms of Washington have a profound impact on ordinary Americans like the Armstrong family, Texas ranchers who spend their time making a living, but also preparing for the worst. As most of the family lives their life in Texas, one of them will unknowingly be the catalyst for World War III.

About the Lone Star Series

Political suspense collides with post-apocalyptic thriller fiction with the Lone Star Series by Bestselling Author Bobby Akart. A devastating EMP attack thrusts most of America into darkness, except for one state which has taken the steps to protect its power grid Texas.

World War III is imminent and a new President faces terrible choices as she navigates the shark-infested waters of Washington, and the geopolitical complexities around the world.

From Washington to Austin to a ranch in West Texas, decisions are made to protect the lives of Americans, some of which are considered selfish, rather than for people s survival.

The Lone Star series is designed to be the most thought-provoking post-apocalyptic series ever written. It will be a reminder to us all that...

One day, tomorrow won't come.

Realistically scary

DIdn't know what to expect but as I began listening to it, it really shocked by as to the accuracty of the political atmosphere that is now prevalent in this country. (possible spoilers) The story centers around a tight knit Texas family whose patriarch has seen the direction the country is heading and does not like what he sees or hears. His wife is a strong woman; mother and wife and she herself has taken steps to ensure the family is well taken care of as well as the people that work for them. Three sons and a daughter rounds out their family. But there is so much more to them than just basic family dynamics that has to be read/listened to to understand the bond they share.
But the most frightening part is what is happening in the political world or Washington and a President that believes she was born to be in the position she is in and completely disregards the direction of the world. She plays to her constituants and is determined to continue the agenda she has always felt is her duty to achieve. But when the North Koreans appear to be doing someing shady, no surprise there, she begins to feel the wieght of her office and with almost no real political experience tries a dipolmatic approach taking it to the UN. We all know where that is heading. As they have been for a long time, it is a worthless assembley of people who for the most part are dictators themselves along with those while they come from Democratic countries, are determined to allow the Little Man in Korea continue to test his missiles as long as that is alll he does. Sound familar?
Of course there is way more to him than meets the eye and since he has adopted the "Enemy of my enemy is my friend" he has now joined forces with the Iranian government to take down the "Great Satan".
The most dangerous threats to the country are a man made EMP(electro magnetic pulse) that could devastate the United States but the politicians are not willing to listen to the danger as long as they have and eye in the sky on the missile test the North Koreans are doing.
Further north along the Canadian border the infiltration of a very Elite Gaurd of North Koreans has almost been completed as they pour in through pourous borders, poursous because the eviromental groups have won round after round of no walls, fences or patrols so that rare fauna and animals be protected...yeah it gets better....
I thought it would be slow considering the amount of time it took to remind us all of just what N. Korea and Iran are capable of, we've all heard it before, but when it it put into words that explain the poitical climate of today where groups of Americans fighting amongst ourselves for power and often times the right to take away citiens rights...well it gets really scare how well the narrative is stated, simply and succiently,
And of course it does help that one of my favorite narrators, Sean Runnette is at the helm here.
There is nothing new that has not been heard here but it is scary when you are the captive audience listening to what has been going on in the country NOW and realize, just how real is this? Can it happen? I leave it up to you to decide.
It is very well written with enough political background to make thi a horror story of sorts.
Really looking forward to the next installment

many books in the series

i think that Bobby could combine a book or two rather than spread this out in so many short books. Good book and i did stay entertained, however not sure its worth keep using all these credits to finish the series. We'll see what else i find, but i'll probably use one more to see if i go on if its a 5 star.

Bobby Akart and Sean Runnette... Audiobook A-Team

Would you consider the audio edition of Axis of Evil to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print edition, but, Sean Runnette is by far one of my favorite narrators. I will still forever think of his voice as that of Mike Talbot, from Zombie Fallout, etc.; but, he did fantastically well reading this first part of Akart's new series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I would have to say my favorite character is the father of the Anderson clan. He came off a no-nonsense, salt-of-the-earth, realistic man who has not only learned from experience, but has the wisdom to prepare and provide for his family.

What does Sean Runnette bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sean has a great voice for listening, as well as his variations between character help them to come alive. His inflections, timing, and pronunciation have always been spot-on. (I admit, I may be a bit biased, being a Mark Tufo fan and all. Have listened to every Tufo book, all performed by Runnette.)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I practically did. I started it yesterday evening and finished it around 8:00 pm this evening. The story was interesting the whole way, then built up to larger events only to cut off with... "And the lights went out."

Always leave them wanting more. Akart surely succeeded here.

Any additional comments?

This is gearing up to be a great new series from the author of the Pandemic series, Blackout series, and the Boston Brahmin series. He only seems to be getting better every time.

Wow, I think I found a new favorite author. Great story and I can’t wait for book 2!!!!! I actually learned some things reading this book. Looked up a few just in case. Book 2 is pre-ordered and can’t wait till March! I may be a little biased about Texas but love this story so far, love the characters, and looking forward to more soon.

Oh, and I think I found my new favorite narrator as well.

Texas Strong Texas Free.
