Publisher's Summary

I remember the lights.

I remember I wanted to photograph them, the way the red and blue splashed across his cold, emotionless face. But I knew even if my feet could move from the place where they had cemented themselves to the ground and I could run for my camera, I wouldn't be able to capture that moment.

I had trusted him, I had loved him, and even though my body had changed that summer, he'd made sure to help me hold on to who I was inside, regardless of how the exterior altered.

But then everything changed.

He stole my innocence. He scarred my heart. He took everything I thought I knew about my life and fast-pitched it out the window, shattering the glass that held my world together in the process.

I remember the lights.

The passionate, desperate, hot strikes of red. The harsh, cruel, icy bolts of blue.

They symbolized everything I endured that summer.

And everything I would never face again.

Wow, this book took me by surprise!

I really loved this book! The main character is dealing with the heartbreak of her high school sweetheart breaking up with her the summer after high school. She has to figure out what to do with her life, and discover who she really is.

Sucker for underdog stories...

This is one of those books that I kind of stumbled upon and decided I wanted to read pretty quickly and without a lot of research, which I usually do. I was surprised by how much I liked the story and ended up finishing it within a couple of days. I am a sucker for underdog stories and this made me love Rhodes and root for him the whole time. Rhodes is one of those characters that draws you in because you want to know more and can tell that he's not a bad person, despite what everyone else says and thinks. The author really makes you concentrate on him as opposed to Nat's ex, whom she frustratingly concentrates on too much in the beginning. Also...it's super cute that Rhodes' nick name for Nat is Bug. He's supposed to be this super in shape, intimidating dude..but when he calls her Bug it's adorable.

I have to say, too, that the steamy parts were hella more steamy than I was expecting and I was taken back by that a bit...but, hey, that's not a bad thing. We're all adults here! lol

Nat was an amazing character and I found that I really liked her ability to stay calm and make good decisions and speak her mind even when the people around her were being unreasonable. She originally has an issue with her confidence, but this story shows how people are able to overcome personal foibles, which is no easy feat.

I think that Marie Mitchell did a great job, but apparently I've been spoiled with amazing narrators in my previous reads because in the beginning she seemed to just be reading instead of using emotions or inflections, but I also noticed that she got a whole lot better throughout the book and overall I think she did great.

The ending totally threw me, but I apparently suck at guessing endings because my fiance usually figures them out right after understanding the premise (to almost any story, it's frustrating); so the ending may not be as big a surprise to everyone as it was to me. Kudos to the author for adding an unexpected ending to go along with an already good story. I definitely recommend this one!

Just Wow!

OMG! I loved this book. There are so many amazing things to love about this book. This book seriously have me all the feels.

I really loved listening to this audiobook. Marie Mitchell was amazing. She did a great job bringing Nat to life and make me fall in love with her character. Despite the fact that Nat is insecure about her weight, she still speaks her mind, especially when it comes to Rhodes. Rhodes is such a tortured character and I loved him so much. His past a situation is complicated, but Nat was exactly what he needed in his life.

Kandi Steiner is an amazing author. This was my first book by her and I'm completely in love. The writing is on point. The story flows so great and is addictive. This book will stick with you long after reading it. Add the amazing narration if Marie Mitchell and this bad boy has it all. I definitely recommend listening to this audiobook. It quickly became one of my favorites that I will be listening to again and again.

Just average

Sad to say, this audiobook didn't entertain me. It was a struggle to make myself finish it, to be honest. The characters just seem so juvenile and the storyline went around in circles without really going anywhere. The heroine was just ditsy and shallow. The hero was a "mysterious " sort of character who never really was fleshed out much by the author. Sorry, but this story for me was a dud.

Unique & Creative Writing w/ Excellent Narration

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. This author and narrator are both new to me and I was very impressed with the unique writing style of Kandi Steiner. I could relate to this story and enjoyed it so much I want more! I am looking through her audiobook and ebook library and purchasing more of her works. This was my first experience listening to Marie Mitchell as a narrator and was very pleased by her performance. She was able to grab at my heart-strings and keep me engaged in the story and characters. I found her performance to be very professional and can compare her work to the likes of Maxine Mitchell, Tracy Marks, Saskia Maarleveld and Elizabeth Louise. This was a great coming of age romance novel with very little explicit sexual content. This is a great listen for the college age and young at heart alike.

It is tough leaving high school .

A story of young Love and how to recover from losing your first boyfriend. Feeling lost and overweight mom had the solution to my situation. The trainer at the Club would teach me more about life than just how to do a perfect squat

Disappointing story development

This started off with promise and I can say that the writing was inviting and engaging. What led to my clear dislike of the book were the weak main characters with a propensity to repeatedly flip-flop emotionally and the lack of depth to the storyline. I can say I disliked the hero Rhodes, he messed the heroine, Natalie around ridiculously. She was a sap, she started her weight loss journey because of a boy and orientated her life and self around her next relationship.

There were unbelievable turns in the story especially (view spoiler)

My heart sunk when I got past midway in this audio, the story deteriorated, the characters lost my engagement. I can’t recommend this book and I’m sad about my experience because I’ve heard a lot of good about this author. Maybe I chose the wrong book, maybe I’ll try again with another book at some point.

The narration was strong throughout and that helped me to finish the audiobook.
