Publisher's Summary

Nothing is for free when it comes to demons. Gwendolyn LaRoux finds this out the hard way when she summons Laish, a minor demon from the Shadow Lands, to help her cook up a little black magic. Unfortunately black magic has a way of growing, and soon Gwendolyn finds herself drowning in darkness. But when a creature from the Abyss enters our world and threatens her beloved grandmother, Gwendolyn has to admit she needs help - which means summoning the infuriating Laish.

Answering Gwendolyn's incantations in a moment of boredom was a mistake for a demon who keeps what little heart he has left under lock and key. Laish immediately fell for the Creole beauty with jade green eyes and creamy, café au lait skin and now he's determined to have her. And thanks to Gwendolyn's dilemma, the price just went up. When it turns out that the intrepid witch must travel through the Shadow Lands and close the door she left open to the Pit, she knows at once she can't make the journey on her own. Of course Laish is more than willing to act as her escort and bodyguard...for a not-so-small fee.

Gwendolyn doesn't want to use her body as a bargaining chip, but the demon will accept no other form of currency. Because her grandmother's life is at stake, she has no choice. As Gwendolyn and Laish travel into the interior of hell, will he be able to keep her safe? And will she be able to keep her innocence? Or with they lose themselves and each other among the Ruby Shadows?

"Wow, What a Great Story and Performance!"
What made the experience of listening to Ruby Shadows the most enjoyable?

Evangeline has such a great imagination! Each story has it own unique plots that make listening to her stories such a treat.

What did you like best about this story?

The trip through hell. Crossing each realm of Hell was an adventure in itself.

    Which scene was your favorite?

There were too many scenes I loved but I especially love how Laish always looked out for Gwendolyn and saved her too many times to count.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I hated that I had to take a break from this story and actually go to work.

    Any additional comments?

Oh, please don't make us wait to long for the next story in this series! :)

"Sexy Hard To Resist Demon & His Witch"
If you could sum up Ruby Shadows in three words, what would they be?

    Hot Sexy Adventure

What other book might you compare Ruby Shadows to and why?

As exciting and hot as the other books in the series and loved this new world the author has created, each level of Hell was another unique adventure

What does Mackenzie Cartwright and Jeremy York bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved having the male and female voices reading their characters perspective, made it so much easier to feel and "see" the characters as I was reading.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A Hell of A Sexy Hot Ride

    Any additional comments?

Evangeline Anderson's imagination mixed with her storytelling skills and phenomenal world building are wonderfully enhanced in these audiobooks. A great paranormal adventure romantica series to read and/or listen to. Listeners will love experiencing having the lead roles read by a male and female narrator.

"bwwm? Male demon w female (naive) witch in series."

Interesting story with(younger) woman of color witch needing help to assist her friend, She calls demonic help who turns to be smitten with her (why??? I don't know) The(older) demon male keeps helping her, fighting for her & bleeding for her but she pushes him away. If she losses her virginity without love she losses 1/2 her power. This story continues the story about a group of friends(supernaturals) People like me are DESPERATE for W.O.C. characters so this female might be weak, whiny & needed to be slapped but, the for play sex the demon did was steamy. Will buy the next book in the series..Hope the female witch grows up.

    "story awesome but characters lacking"

I really enjoyed the story...even more than the book before it. I was disappointed in a few things however...well more than disappointed...a few things bugged me. First..it was hard to disconnect the character of Gwendolyn from the one of Taylor because the narrator did not give them their own distinct voices as she did in the previous book. In the previous book Gwendolyn's voice was deeply Creole. The same with Victor and Laish. I was discontented at the fact that Victor and Laish had some of the same speech even though they were so different. A mortal werewolf should not have had any of the same things to say as an immortal such as Laish. An example being "honey from the source", which was repeated a lot. If there had been more originality in the characters...for me..this book would have received all the stars I could give it. Gwendolyn was also given some of the same mannerisms as Taylor. I guess my only problem with this book is how similar the characters were to one another when they should not have been. Laish..being my favorite character of the series..should have been delectably unique in every way. It would be nice if each book had New narrarators to help separate the characters effectively..overall though..very nice!

"Couldn't stand the female lead character"
    Any additional comments?

I purchased the Audible version of Ruby Shadows, after getting a brief glimpse of Gwen and Laish’s story at the end of Scarlet Heat. I was really looking forward to it. A witch and a gorgeous demon... yummy!

Unfortunately, I was left disappointed, again. I am not sure what it is with this series, but Gwen is the second female lead I couldn’t stand. I didn’t hate her as much as Addison, from Crimson Debt, but I didn’t like her AT ALL!

I will say that Mackenzie Cartwright and Jeremy York did a brilliantly fantastic job bringing the story to life. However, I am not sure if I liked the way the dialog was read. I think I would have enjoyed it more if Mackenzie took all the female roles, and Jeremy took all the male roles, instead of narrating based on the POV of the chapter.

I am not sure why Evangeline heroines are always so sexually naïve, and thrown with males they are reluctant to be with. This story reminded me very much of her “Brides of Kindred Series.” In that, the males are gung-ho and the females are hesitant, but eventually coaxed into every sexual situation, culminating in sex almost towards the end of the book.

In Ruby Shadows, Gwen has to venture to hell to close a door to the abyss she left open in book two, Scarlet Heat. Laish, a demon, volunteers to guide her and protect her on her journey. The reason why I can’t stand Gwen is; Laish is incredibly sweet and caring and willing to help her, however, Gwen is nothing but an obnoxious bitch to him. She treats Laish like his is a piece of filth, I can’t stand it. It’s so obvious that he cares for her greatly, but she has got her head so far up her own ass, she can’t see it.

Even when she starts to realize all the things he has done, and is doing for her, she still doesn’t treat him the way she should. Gwen is also clueless and naïve; she is in Hell, yet she is acting like she is walking through regular streets. Her constant defiance and distrust in Laish keeps getting her into trouble. Thus, forcing Laish to repeatedly have to save her. I just want to slap her! If I had not paid so much for the Audiobook, I would have stopped halfway through, due to my complete disgust with her!

Gwen somewhat redeems herself towards the end and the book improved. But it's hard for me to love the book when I can’t stand the female lead. Due to this, I give Ruby Shadows a 3. It was good, but not my favorite from Evangeline....Sara

    "Wow what an adventure"

I absolutely loved this story and what a story it was. Very well developed and really takes you on an adventure. Some parts made me cringe especially the (spoiler) pig demon ugh but that's part of the craziness of hell I guess. Evangeline masterfully describes her demon hell in a way that was truly original and unique. You can tell this author is extremely creative and talented to think of things she did during this book. Some of the comments about Gwendolyn are frustrating because people don't understand that Gwendolyn is meant to be a young bratty naive witch lol and she does need help, guidance in direction hence why she got in her mess in the first place, if you can't understand that but upset you didn't understand the character or the theme Aron d the characters personality lol. Overall this book is great and one of the most captivating worlds Evangeline has ever created in a book in my opinion. Great job Evangeline.

    "Gwendolyn and Laish"

Gwendolyn mistakenly left a door to hell open when she rescued her friend. In this book Laish agrees to be her escort through the different levels of hell. Evangeline takes us through the different levels and introduces us to Hell's inhabitants. I enjoyed the journey but i thought Evageline made Gwendolyn too naive. I found myself rolling my eyes a few times. Other than that i really liked the story, loved the trip through Evageline's version of Hell. Definately a good read/listen.
I also liked the two narrators. I really like the male verse read by a male, etc. I think it makes it easier to connect.

    "The Road to Hell"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Oh yeah. It was a really great book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Laish. He was so in love with Gwen that he sacrificed everything for the woman he loved.

What does Mackenzie Cartwright and Jeremy York bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

All the inflections of their voices. The emotions just flow out.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Go to HELL...and Love it!

    Any additional comments?

I just loved when the Loch Ness Monster makes a cameo appearance while they were in the Sunless Sea. Fantastic!!!

"WOW.. Had hard time putting down"

this is my second book in this series.. I started with the crimson debt then this one. I am amazed at how creative the stories are. I loved loved Laish! he was everything you could want in one hot package. the story takes you through the 7 levels of hell and it made me feel you were there with them. the only negative was Gwendolyn.. I wanted to reach through and dope slap her on so many occasions.. talk about stupid.. without giving too much away.. she is in hell and even tho laish told her not to trust anyone or open the door she did it anyways... more times than I could count.. she was also kind of selfish more concerned about herself and anyone else other than laish! but she did come around.. I need to go back and read book 2 also looking forward to a book 4! create story and some steamy scenes.

disclaimer I did receive this book free for a honest review.. and again I recommend this book highly

    "My favourite so far!"

This is an imaginative story with likeable characters. The world created in this book is believable without being over the top. I also enjoyed the narration done by male and female narrators, they were both equally convincing performing either male and female voices. I have read the other two in this series and very much hope there will be a book four, with Shadowlock and Erin! I did find the use of the 'C' word jarred especially at moments that were meant to be tender but aside from that I liked it very much.

    "Great story line"
What made the experience of listening to Ruby Shadows the most enjoyable?

It was a very good story line and kept you on the edge of your seat at all times.

What did you like best about this story?

Laish is a really great character and going through hell was very imaginative.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No

    Any additional comments?

it would have been much more enjoyable if the "C" word had not been used, everytime they used this term it made me flinch, I am not a prude far from it, but that is one of the crudest words ever and books can still be erotic (even more so) without the need for it. It would have then warranted a 5 star.
