Some days, all you need is a message from a stranger. Ruby Santos knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she signed up to write a soldier overseas. What she didn't count on was falling in love with the guy.
Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot's rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society and made elegance and glamour her business. She's riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she's blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start - and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.
If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn't been one long enough. Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn't know what the hell she's doing half the time. The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a brokenhearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that come with her. Lydia Green doesn't know whether to scream or cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing altogether.
Vanessa Mazur knows she's doing the right thing. She shouldn't feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans, and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary. But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she's beyond shocked.
When the new girl in town, Eliza "Izzy" Forrester, decides to hit the local drinking hole, she's not ready to meet the town's good, solid guy. She's definitely not prepared to engage in her very first hookup with him. Then Izzy wakes up the next morning in Johnny Gamble's bed, and good girl Izzy finds she likes being bad for Johnny. Even so, Izzy feels Johnny holding her at arm's length. He's in love with someone else. Someone who left him and did it leaving him broken.
Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She's charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual.
After losing almost all of her clients in one fell swoop following an accident involving whipped cream, private chef to Hollywood's elite Roxie Callahan gets a call from her flighty mother, saying she's needed home in upstate New York to run the family diner. Once she's back in the Hudson Valley, local organic farmer Leo delivers Roxie a lovely bunch of walnuts, and soon sparks - and clothing - begin to fly. Leo believes that everything worth doing is worth doing slowly...and how!
At 34, I'm reeling from a divorce. I don't want to party or try to move on. I just want to stay home and post a new recipe on my blog: Brynn's Dips and Balls. But my friends aren't having it. Get out there again, they say. It will be fun, they say. I'm still taking a hard pass. Free designer cocktails, they say. And that's a game-changer. Too bad my ex shows up with his new arm candy. That's when I lose my mind.
It didn't take a week for 27-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she'd seen in the international soccer icon - why she'd ever had his posters on her wall or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies.
Jake McKallister might have been a rock star, but he was no ordinary one. Surviving an unspeakable crime as a young teen had shaped him into a guarded workaholic, and he now lived his life trying to forget. If it hadn't been for music and the redemption he found through it, he might not have survived. Career success came easily for him. Personal connections did not.
Growing up, the three of us were friends. He was the nerd. I was the playboy. She was the beauty. Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits. He lied. I went off to college, and he got the girl. Amber never knew how I felt. They were together for years - before he broke her heart. Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch. When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.
When 25-year-old Kat is dragged to a porn convention by her best friend, she's both embarrassed and nervous. The last thing she ever expects is to meet someone who makes her laugh like no other. This is a story about acceptance and friendship and a love born out of the most unexpected of places.
Clam jam. Definition: the female equivalent of a cock block. Example: You're chatting with a guy you're interested in, and your friend comes along and lays claim to him. That's my life - except it's worse. My friend who keeps "jamming" me is my gay roommate. Fact: He went home with three - yes, three - of the guys I had been so sure were into me. Fact: He's really pissing me off. I'll never manage to get a boyfriend before the age of 50 if he keeps this up. Fact: Secretly, I wonder what it would be like if he weren't gay.
Twenty-six-year-old Gaby Barreto might be a lot of things (loyal, sarcastic, one of the guys, and a pain in the butt, depending on which family member you ask), but dumb isn't one of them. When her twin brother invites her to go on tour as his band's merch girl, she isn't exactly screaming at the top of her lungs with joy. But with no job opportunities pounding on her door, an ex-boyfriend she would still like to castrate, and no end in sight to moving out of her parents' house in Dallas, it would be dumb to say no to the chance of a lifetime.
There are three things you should know about Quinn Sullivan:
1) He is madly in love with Janie Morris
2) He's not above playing dirty to get what (or who) he wants
3) He doesn't know how to knit.
After just five months of dating Janie, Quinn - former Wendell and unapologetic autocrat - is ready to propose marriage. In fact he's more than ready. If it were up to Quinn, he would efficiently propose, marry, and beget Janie with child all in the same day - thereby avoiding the drama and angst that accompanies the four stages of prematrimony: engagement; meeting the parents; bachelor/bachelorette party; and overblown, superfluous wedding day traditions. But Janie, much to Quinn's dismay, tosses a wrench in his efficacious endeavors and challenges him to prove his devotion by going through the matrimonial motions, no matter how minute and mundane.
Will Quinn last until the wedding day? Or will he yield to his tyrant impulses?
Regardless, one thing is for certain: Quinn Sullivan will have to learn to expect the Spanish Inquisition (i.e., the unexpected) if he plans to have and keep Janie Morris as his wife.
You must listen to Neanderthal Seeks Human first before listening to this book.
This book is written in first person with alternating POVs (Janie Morris and Quinn Sullivan, but more Janie than Quinn).

If I was forced to find one flaw, it might be that the book is a tad on the long side. However, every chapter adds a great deal to the story, and I was never bored. I wouldn’t change a thing. I’d like to make a toast to Penny Reid for gracing us with her creativity and fantastic sense of humor.

Such a cliche, I know but it's true. It was a good wrap up of Quinn and Janie's story but it didn't have me laughing out loud like I was in the first during the knitting club fight scene. Still good though.

A well written, well preformed book. I bought this as soon as I finished the first one. Janie and her friends crack me up! Quin added great balance suavely sexy and funny too! Third installment coming up!

Not a fan...this seems to happen through the entire series...whether behind their back or not...other than that love!
I don’t think I’ve ever had something so well described and lucratively imagined ever read to me, truly comical! Can’t wait to listen to the rest of these!
Love these stories, author, narrator. I can’t believe I can listen to so many books read by Sebastian York and have them not effect each other.
Having a 1.5 is a great idea. I smiled and cried during this story. The speeches at the end made me cry.
I think Penny Reid is my new favorite. I loved the characters, the story and the narrators.
Oh I do so love Penny Reid. But she has forgotten that her readers are worldwide, including some (like me) living in London. So glaring factual errors will be noticed! Penny has filled this book with a glorious amount of trivia which must have taken so much research, so I am surprised at this slip-up:
The Tower of London might be a tourist attraction, but it is also the home of the Crown Jewels, and security is discrete but watertight. Each night the Tower is locked to the public, in “The Ceremony of the Keys”. After the gates are closed, only Yeoman Warders (they are all former service men and yes, those are real machine guns they carry with their ceremonial uniforms), their families and on-duty members of the Armed Services, are permitted entrance – and only to very specific areas. The wonderful thing about traditions like this, is that no matter how rich, powerful, and influential you are, there are still things that money truly cannot buy. Entrance to the Tower of London after hours is one of those things. I did love the scenes at the Tower in this book, in particularly the Torture Rooms. I just wish I was not continually distracted by my mental eye-rolls throughout the whole romantic scenario, especially in the Jewel Room! If you can understand that the estimated value of the Crown Jewels is £3-5 BILLION pounds, you will understand how impossible it is that this would have happened.
However, this book is such a joy to read I am certainly not about to deduct stars for the above criticism. It is a continuation of the first book in the series and I initially wondered how Penny Reid could make a story out of a couple who have been together five months, with a relationship that is progressing smoothly. But this is a truly unique couple – “quirky” would be an understatement when describing this h.
The H is desperate to get married, fast. We get the POV of the previously inscrutable H and realise that he is actually human (!) and not only seriously adores the h, but deep down worries that she may soon realise that he is just not good enough for her. The h, meanwhile, is worried that it is too much too soon and that one day the “other shoe will drop” and the H will realise that he can find someone better. Therefore she decides that arranging a huge over-the-top wedding with every feature possible (including doves!) will put enough strain on their relationship to test their long term potential.
Parts of this book were hilarious. Particularly mention must go to the scene where the h met one of her fiance’s ex girlfriends. Definitely not the usual “meet the ex” scenario. I was also laughing out loud when h decided that abstinence would be a good way to add stress, quickly decides she does not want the self-imposed deprivation, only to find the H takes up her suggestion and insists on it – to her horror. Then there was a fabulous Vegas visit, with surprising consequences for a couple that feature in another book – a wonderful tie-in for those of us lucky enough to have read it already. Special mention also has to go to the surprising source of the wedding dress – that really was an unexpected twist!
Meanwhile, we learn more about the h's truly “dysfunctional family” and experience her sheer joy at discovering her finance’s family. Her determined efforts to reunite them was touching and emotional for all concerned.
As usual, Penny does not do things normally, and my dismay at the lack of epilogue was quickly overcome when she instead supplied a “missing chapter” from a previous part of the book. Told from the H’s POV, this gives us final confirmation that this is a very special couple, truly deserving of each other, with both fully appreciating how lucky they are to have found each other.
A wonderful, and very unique romance that is well worth reading.

and also one of my most favourite books ever. plot is amazing, characters you fall in love with and voices perfectly matching.
Quinn I think I love you, I love that the story is clever and that the narrator's give it depth.
brilliant book!
Why has my life been empty of Penny Reid’s books for so long!!! She has a flair for weirdly funny characters and adorable men. This is a highly recommended series and one that I will listen to again and again.
What a fantastic books. I recommend these book to anyone. it was funny..and the facts that Janie was saying was brilliantly true and funny. Well done to the author of these books 10/10
The writing was intelligent, fast paced and funny. A perfect romance. Not filled with overly gratuitous sex scenes just for the sake of it. I really enjoyed and looking forward to book 2, Nico and Elizabeth's story
