Publisher's Summary

Ophelia Lang needs money, and she needs it bad. Her parents' restaurant is going under, and ever since she lost her job teaching third grade elementary, scraping enough cash together to pay the bills has proven almost impossible. Her parents are on the brink of losing their home. The vultures are circling overhead. So when Ophelia is offered an interview for a well-paid private tutoring gig in New York, how can she possibly say no?

Ronan Fletcher is far from the overweight, balding businessman Ophelia expected him to be. He's young, handsome, and wealthy beyond all reason. He's also perhaps the coldest, rudest person she's ever met, and has a mean streak in him a mile and a half wide. A hundred grand is a lot of money, however, and if tolerating his frosty temperament, his erratic mood swings and whatever else he throws at her means she'll get paid, then that is what Ophelia will do.

Her new boss is keeping secrets, though. Awful, terrible secrets.

The ghosts of Ronan Fletcher's past are about to turn Ophelia's future upside down, and she can't even see it coming.

A UNIQUE & ENJOYABLE JOURNEY OF REDEMPTION & LOVE

This is my first Callie Hart book.. but it won't be my last because it was a riveting journey to get lost in as this tender love story unfolded. Ophelia thought she'd had a terrible interview with her prospective new boss who needed a Nanny to look after his two children for six months while he wrote a book. However, the brash cold businessman made her an offer she couldn't refuse.. and to save her parent's restaurant Ophelia travelled to a small island off the coast of Maine to look after an adorable little girl and a withdrawn little boy who'd tragically lost their Mother the year before. But the tragedy wouldn't end there because more tragedy and more shocks awaited Ophelia.. as well as eventually finding the love of her life.

You think you know how the story will go.. but very quickly Callie Hart pulls the rug out from under your feet with a shocking WTF twist that'll send you reeling.. and from then on secrets are uncovered, friends are made, a soul is saved from his self-imposed isolation and misery and a sweet family unit is tentatively formed. It'll be emotionally hard work for Ophelia.. but she'll hit gold in the end.

The writing was descriptive, the main characters were likeable and didn't do stupid things that would muddy the waters for themselves, the plot was unique and well developed and the romance blossomed from angry remarks, witty banter, heated words and frustrated feelings.. into a strong love that would eventually lead to an unconventional but tight family unit. The getting there would be fraught with emotional pitfalls but these two lovers managed to navigate around each one beautifully, underwent some major character transformation along the way.. and reaped the rewards because of it. Told from Ophelia's POV but with some flashbacks to the hero's brave and selfless actions in Afghanistan as remembered by him. Could've had a bit more chemistry and sex scenes which would've made it a 5 star listen for me. Good narration too.

Worth a credit? Yes.. a character driven plot of two people thrown together by circumstances out of their control, who bravely rallied, adapted, went beyond duty, found love and made a beautiful future for themselves.. and for two lovely children.

What a surprise!

By the blurb, I was NOT prepared for this book. I was ready to shut it down after 20 minutes because I was so surprised at how things were playing out but the narration was great so I stuck it out and I'm SO GLAD I DID!

The storyline was so intense and fast paced, it felt like a short book. I was sucked in and couldn't wait to see how things would play out. There are a lot of twists and turns and every single one, I was glad to be listening to.

Julia Farmer had an excellent pace and her voices were easily distinguishable. I really enjoyed her narration.

All I can say is...

I have never actually written a review on Audible, just left ratings for each book I listened to. I've read and listened to A LOT of books. I have NEVER read or listened to a book that threw me off my rocker right out of the gate. Seriously, barely into listening to this I was thinking "What the ever-loving eff just happened?! And where the heck is this going?!" Pure unadulterated curiosity kept me going after that. Gotta say, kudos to you, Callie Hart, this book was definitely worth the credit.

absolutely loved it

This book touched my heart made me love and cry and wished for more. The love they hid because of the hurt they endured is the hardest thing a person can do to ones self. I can feel their loss, the hurt and dispare of loosing someone my hear aches and yet the love shines.

Same but so very different

I still don't know why I haven't taken the audiobook route until now. Totally my bad. The production was slick and the talented Ms Farmer truly brought the story to life.

I've read a lot of Ms. Hart's work before but I found this tittle had a different voice. Not better, not worse just different. Softer even with her trademark 'darkness'.

Life isn't always pretty but Ms Hart has a way of showing her readers the lightness hidden in the darkest of her stories.

A well written story set over the course of a year yet also tells the story of an interwoven lifetime of two brothers, twins, as same as they are different.

Eye Roller

What would have made Between Here and the Horizon better?

Get rid of Lex all together.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Blood Kiss J.R. Ward - BDB spin off

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Julia Farmer?

Narrator was great

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

SOOOOO irritated with the lead female character. I can get a glimpse of what the author was trying to portray, but created an immature, irrational, narcissist man-hater. Couldn't get past it. How was a character like Sam created along side Lex???????

Any additional comments?

I will read the next book in this series only because the lead female could not possibly get any worse, and I did enjoy the actual story and other characters. I was so disappointed because this author usually writes great female characters.
