Best zombie apocalypse fiction out there!

I have to say, i just loved this series. I listen to these at work, and i found myself excited to go to work in the morning to find out what happened to Cassie and the group. Julia Whelan is also a wonderful narrator. I found myself searching audible for other titles narrated by her. She really brings life to the characters, male and female. All I can say is, if you are interested in z-apocalypse fiction, this is one of the best series out there. The characters are so developed and the story keeps moving. And if you aren't into zombies, i recommend these books as well. Sure, there's gore, but the characters are what draw you in. You can see a real progression in each character. I was satisfied by the end, but man, i wish there would be more of these!

Amazing end of the trilogy

I wanted to put off listening to this one, because I knew it was the last book- but I also HAD to know what Cassie and the group faced before they got their happy ever after. I also had to find out who made it to their happily ever after, as Sarah Lyons Fleming isn't shy about killing off a favorite character. Nobody is guaranteed a safe spot in her world.

The characters are what makes this series so amazing. The survivors have all developed so much from the first book, and they are so real. There is no shortage of action from the zombies, and some really nasty living baddies too.

So while I am heartbroken that this is the end, I can honestly say this is a series that I will visit again in the future to listen to again.

Julia Whelan does a fantastic job with the narration. She really brought Cassie to life and nailed her snark. I have enjoyed all the books I have listened to that were read by her.

Love this series

Sarah has a way of evoking some major emotion with her writing, and All the Stars in the Sky doesn't disappoint.

While often I'll balk at tying everything up in a shiny red bow, this series needed it and it was written exactly how I wanted it to play out. I don't know if it was my own imagination, or if the author subtly led me in that direction, but it was flawlessly executed.

This series is an absolute must read.

What other book might you compare All the Stars in the Sky to and why?

LIke no other. The Author is really amazing with these books and the way she paints the pictures. YOu can really see and imagine everything about it. I HATE zombies but I NEED more of this book!!!

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

A fantastic narrator! Great performer and really gives life into this book.

Any additional comments?

I LOVE the entire series!!!

Not my normal genre, but by far one of the best series EVER! Great book, well worth the credits!!! The books must be read in order, even the novella!

To be honest I've listened to this series many times, it's by far one of the best Zombie apocalypse trilogies. The narration is perfect, the story keeps you entertained (even if you know the story nearly by heart)! The series has a little bit of something for everyone, mystery, thrills, romance, lost/found/rediscovered love, drama, the value of family and so much more......

More like this, please!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I most definitely would recommend this series to a friend though the friend really has to be into, or at least open to, SciFi/Fantasy Zombie stories. I love everything about this series. It has heart and grit.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked everything about this story "best." It's very intimate and always kept me alert and ready for a chuckle or a panic for survival.

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to Julia Whelan but it was this series that I first heard her and I'm a HUGE fan! She's a fave and if Julia is the narrator, my audiobook choices are often based on her.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, many moments where death was so close to my favorite characters!

Any additional comments?

I would not mind MORE of Cassie and her crew!

The more difficult of the 3 books in the series

Again, I don't want to give away the plot. It's still a great finish to the series, but it has a lot of sad parts. So, brace yourself. I still think you will enjoy the book, lots of plot twists like The Walking Dead. I do like how it ended, phew!

Love this story!

I have read this and listened to it twice. The narrator is particularly good and the story is really a love story. The characters are well defined and the zombies are definitely obstacles and many close friends are lost on their way to finding a refuge and sometimes even the refuge comes under attack, either by zombies or greedy men. I loved the way this ended too. All in all a very satisfying story.

Coming Full Circle

Julia Whelan's dreamy narration makes this novel come to life. She breathes life into each beloved character with her humorous or serious interpretations. her sense of timing us impeccable . A novel such as this, the third of three , needs to show readers just how far characters have traveled . This story does this . My thirst for dystopian novels is finally quenched with this trilogy . The love stories and friendships embedded in the post end of world storyline are not angst ridden and perfect . Instead they are real, brojen, angry, brave, patieht, and devoted. If you have ever loved someone at the wrong time and had the fortune to meet up again much later and find the time is right then you will understand how unique it would be to spend all of that time in between breaking up and getting together with each other rather than apart . Cassie and Peter find themselves broken up but stuck with each other as they survive in a world that is ending This is no teenage love story. They are adults who endure losses unimaginable and form friendships as they rebuild their lives and gather others in need of love and protection around them .

I recommend this trilogy for the storytelling and story itsekf. It's difficult to tell where one begins and the other ends in this amazing performance .

prepare the tissues... to mop-up the sadness.

All the previous books were great but this one is by far the most "wonderful" if I even can use this expression here. The charter's arc's, the unsuspected plot turn's were both heart warming and heart wrenching time and time again. It is so great to read a humane-first-of-all apocalypse story, it is pretty rear in the genre in my opinion, it is more then not all about the action in the other books, that's why this one is so special to me. Here it is about the people, and their stores, plus main protagonist is a woman written confidently and realistically with all greatness of survival and ugliness of survival together, and it makes the story even more indeering, you can relate, you can cheer, you can be sad, but most of all you can not stop reading it (or listening in my case, the voice-over is brilliantly done!).

P.S. And yes, after Chapter 33 Anna's Backpack scene I was crying like there was no return.

Third and best of the series - rich storytelling

I really enjoyed listening to this trilogy, but none more so than this final instalment. I found that by this point I was so invested in these characters and their plight. You follow along on their journey and are rooting for them and crying for them. I was surprised at how connected I had become with the whole thing and how emotional I was at many different moments. My favourite aspect is Cassy's evolution and the way that her character is drawn so realistically. She is a complete bad-ass in so many ways, but she's also REAL and flawed and so funny and is willing to die for any of the people she loves. She is a true hero and an inspiration. You'd definitely want her on your team during any apocalyptic situation! It was great to have a woman be the protagonist in this genre, and there is also loads of other diversity amongst the characters. Her best friend is a gay man (and he's the anti-stereotype being a big strapping Texan), and there are people of all shapes, sizes, colour and types who feature prominently. The narrator Julia Whelan is EXCELLENT at all the voices. Every voice, even the men's, were all so unique that you immediately knew which character it was. She's really talented to the point that sometimes it felt like I was listening to a play being performed by a whole cast of people.

Feel quite sure that I'll listen over and over again! Would make a brilliant film!

Can't wait to start the city side of the story as I'm sure it will be just as good...but then what will I do 😰

Can't recommend highly enough!!

Excellent Trilogy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes most definitely! A zombie world with believable characters is a rare thing indeed. An author who takes the time to develop those characters whilst maintaining the necessary sense of danger and fear is even rarer.

What did you like best about this story?

A lot of zombie books have a similar timeline. Outbreak and scary escape, find a refuge and build defences, face scary humans and then have the refuge overrun by zombies to force the characters into jeopardy again, a novel describing people subsistence farming would be of little interest to anyone so the writer has to get the characters moving. This trilogy is no different in that sense from several other zombie books, it does not re-invent the genre and does not seek to be particularly innovative in terms of the overall storyline. It might be quite surprising to learn then that I think this trilogy is amongst the best in the genre, if not the best. How the story is told is what seperates this trilogy from other lesser examples of the genre.

Character development is key and brilliantly done. The inter-relationship between the characters is as important as the zombies. There's still a lot of action as you would expect from a zombie book but because the characters are well developed the listener actually cares about what happens to them.

The author has created a believable and terrifying world where the characters act in a rational way. That's not to say they are always sensible, logical or mistake free but the way they act fits in with their characters. I have listened to a lot of zombie audiobooks and almost all of them have scenes where the author has dreamt up set piece situations. Nothing wrong with that but usually to get the characters into those situations someone has to act in way that's either totally out of character or just plain stupid. In this trilogy (and novella) the characters' motivation and actions are understandable and consistent. In a perfect world that should be the least the reader expects from an author but it is so rare in this genre that I feel it is worthy of mention.

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have now purchased a couple of audiobooks purely because Julia Whelan was the narrator. She is by far the most enjoyable narrator I've listened to (out of the 100+ I've tried).

Her accents are subtle and nuanced rather than the usual parody of accents most narrators use. There's nothing worse, for me, than a narrator who feels the need to exaggerate accents to make the characters distinctive from each other. You know what I mean.. the Irish character that sounds like a leprechaun on speed, the marine that sounds like Hicks/Hudson from Aliens, the New Yorker who sounds like Joe Pesci...........Julia Whelan achieves distinctive characters without the need for such sloppy stereotypes.

The other aspects of her narration also show a similar degree of subtlety. She conveys the emotion of a scene without overacting it. I realise this aspect is more of a personal preference but to me reading an audiobook has to be a performance to be any good but it can't be in the same vein as a stage/film performance. Novels have far too much superfluous information/text to justify trying to fully act out each scene and it's usually grating when narrators try. A novel adapted for a dramatic performance is a very different thing from the reading of an unabridged audiobook. Julia Whelan has realised this and I can't speak highly enough about her performance.

The 3rd of the series,I've listened to them all straight through because the characters are so well written you need to know what happens to them.As with the other books, this has scenes where you are literally biting your nails and yes,it made me cry! I'm going back to the first book now I've done.Excellent narration too which makes all the difference.

Sinker!

Fantastic trilogy! Found myself expecting a big twist or revelation, but the build up to the finale was slower than most other books I've listened to and it was very refreshing. Would recommend this trilogy to anyone looking for a reality based zombie apocalypse book, whose focus is in the characters and not in a search for a "cure".

Such a female take on an apocalypse...

More time is spent wondering if anyones feelings had been hurt and pairing random people up... Such a waste of what started our great but ended poorly... All these smart characters and no one thought to make an oil field to burn all the lexers/zombies or get one of the pilots to fly all the people to safety so many flaws...

Brilliant, well written series

I have watched /read / listened to numerous end-of-the-world stories, and I think this has to be one of the best I have listened to. It is gritty, gory, edge of the seat stuff, but also has a rich depth and heart usually lacking in this genre. The characters are so well drawn, the story terrifyingly believable, and it is perfectly narrated by Julia Whelan, you just can't switch it off! I put this series up there with The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, and I won't be surprised at all when it is made into a movie or TV series. I have listened to this a number of times already - and I wish there was more!!!

Well read

Really impressed with the narration, forgot it was a female when a male character spoke... I totally got lost in the story line. I almost gave up though at a certain low point in the story... But glad I pushed through. Wasn't sure it could come back from that but it did!
