"Years ago, I wrote about a retail store in the Palo Alto environs—a good one, which had a box of two-cent candies at the checkout. I subsequently remember that 'little' parting gesture of the two-cent candy as a symbol of all that is Excellent at that store. Dozens of people who have attended seminars of mine have come up to remind me, sometimes 15 or 20 years later, of “the two-cent candy story,” and to tell me how it had a sizable impact on how they did business."

Much of what we hear about who gets to the top, and how, is wrong. Those who become chief executives set their sights on the C-suite at an early age. In fact, over 70 percent of the CEOs didn't have designs on the corner office until later in their careers. You must graduate from an elite college. In fact, only seven percent of CEOs in the dataset are Ivy League graduates - and eight percent didn't graduate from college at all. To become a CEO you need a flawless résumé. The reality: 45 percent of CEO candidates had at least one major career blowup.

In Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in football history: With 26 seconds remaining, and trailing by four at the Patriots' one-yard line, he called for a pass instead of a handing off to his star running back. The pass was intercepted, and the Seahawks lost. Critics called it the dumbest play in history. But was the call really that bad? Or did Carroll actually make a great move that was ruined by bad luck? Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time.

In this concise and brilliant work, he looks to the most influential position in management - the executive. The measure of the executive, Drucker reminds us, is the ability to "get the right things done". This usually involves doing what other people have overlooked as well as avoiding what is unproductive.

Dead-on and Relevant
Tom Peters, far from the typical rah-rah business advice guru, is both grounded and passionate, practical and visionary. The segments on leadership, globalization, and personal service were solid on target. And he did a great job reading his book.

Interesting Ideas
I like Tom Peter's view on modern business. However, I was a little surprised by how monotone his voice was for his own book. The printed edition has technicolor all over the place, but the audio version seems black-and-white. If it wasn't for Tom's message, I would have given it only two stars.

Get the book, Its worth the dough!
I think the research is definitely a bit off and a lot of the substance is reprocessed from other popular books and thought leaders and presented in an opinionated and at times arrogant demeanor. Also bothersome is the ambiguous references to personal meetings and sources i.e ?WAGs? that many futuristic predictions are derived from. I point this out to support comments in other negative reviews about less than accurate research and borderline arrogance. Yes you will find that in this book. I read the negative reviews before I bought the book and can honestly say it is worth it! Folks this is an opinionated lecture from one of the country?s top 20 if not the top 10 thought leaders, it?s not a research paper. Arrogant by his own admission, he pokes and prods the entrenched corporate mentality that is instilled in many of us, daring us to reinvent, redefine, recreate, rejuvenate and in short reimagine. You will not find any blueprints or flowcharts to follow his prescriptions but you will find excellent examples of where the leadership mentality should be (from the leadership mindset, mind you) and a few best practices. He is right on the money on his observations on the future of middle management, the state of education and the potential of the businesswoman and baby boomer market. If you are a part of any government body, any rigidly structured company structure or culture or if you are a purveyor of a mundane product or service then you will not like this book. I think, if you are in marketing, part of a creative team, responsible for managing a group of people or if you are a student you will identify with his observations and see his predictions around the corner. Get the book! Its worth the dough!

not that great
this is a long rant about how to do business in the new world according to the author. It does have some valuable insights, but not that great. This doesn't repect your time that much either. It's more like a way for the author to let off steam. There is some info, widely spread out, with a bunch of garbage in between. A lot would have sounded good 5 years ago, but it's almost outdated now. Get something more organized to educate you.

B-Schools Beware!!!
If you don't have a clue who Tom Peters is, don't worry. Listen to this book or read it or do both and you will know who Tom Peters is. He is the deep down hidden inner voice we know we have but are afraid to bring forward. Tom Peters says the truth about the world around us. If you don't think so, listen, then look around for 5 minutes and things will be crystal clear.
This information is beyond anything given at any "old" business school. This should be MANDATORY reading/listening for everyone and anyone thinking about "surviving in the new competitive environment" that is TODAY the norm.
Even if you aren't in B-School, you still need to listen/read this information before it is too late.

Brilliant & Bold
This audio book is the boldest gutsiest opinion I have heard in a long time. The points the author makes reflect his opinion on the way things are and should be. I do not agree with all of his assumptions and predictions but I find that every one of them is an eye-opening jaw dropping food for thought or at least for those who are willing to look at the world from different angles.

Brainfood!
I use audio books to stimulate the brain on the daily commute, ReImagine is one of the most stimulating I?ve heard. I found my self constantly having to pause the audio because my brain was working on an application for the last key point that Tom Peters had made. It has instilled a determination not to fall back into thinking in ?traditional? business terms and structures, a determination to apply at least some of the resulting ideas to my own business. The narration is captivating too, if a little brash for the sensitive UK listener. The passion, belief and emotion comes across brilliantly.
