Very educative

This book has been very informative to me. I did not know all the types of chicken I saw in this book. I had no idea how many eggs each chicken kind could produce. I am so amazed with Halls’ books and would always like to listen to them.This book gave me the ability to admire and enjoy the exciting life of chickens. I would love to have chickens if it was possible.

Great book

It does however have illustrations as needed, and easy to locate info on everything with an in an eggshell summary at the end of each chapter. This book is very informative and easy to read while still being enjoyable and fun. I enjoyed the sections on water/feed, cleaning, signs of good health, and egg storage.

Ready for spring!

The family is looking to raise chickens next spring, and we had no idea really how to get started. Was referred to this project and thought I'd give it a shot, was extremely happy I did! This audiobook covers every step of the chicken raising process, from preparing the coop to taking care of them once inside. Will probably take another listen as we get closer to spring, just happy to have picked it up!

I am a complete novice looking at raising chickens for the first time. This book gave me all the information I needed to get started without overwhelming me with waaaaay to much. This book gave good advice and answered so many questions I had before I could get started. With this book’s help, I’m starting to get things ready for my own backyard chickens!

Everything you need to know about raising AND preparing chickens!

This audiobook was unlike any I’ve ever listened to. I learned so much about what it takes to raise chickens— from what you need to feed them, handle them, and even prepare them. Wow. It was very intense. My son was listening to parts of the audiobook with me, and when it came to the part about how you ‘prepare the chicken for the fork’, he asked “Is the author a doctor ?” The author’s knowledge is truly incredible.

I didn’t know all of the different personalities and types of chicken or types of eggs. As the author mentioned, raising chickens to and preparing them for the fork isn’t for everyone. It can be difficult if there a strong emotional attachment to the chickens, because they do have distinct personalities and the owners and can become bonded to them.

Overall, this book is very thorough and also perfect for homesteaders who are on the quest for independent food sources. It’s best to raise them knowing what they’ve been eating and even what type of emotional life they’ve led. I had no clue that chickens could go through mental challenges and act out , which is why it is even more important to make sure they are well cared for on all levels.
