Very grateful for this book

As a mentor of several teenaged girls I am very grateful for this book. I feel a lot more confident looking out for signs that the teens in my care and organization are harming themselves. Adolescence is such a precarious time in one's life. Knowing how to respond to someone in need is a powerful skill. I will be consulting this audiobook in the future for sure.

Thoughtful, compassionate, useful

Bought this for a friend's daughter who has been struggling with issues of self image, particularly around her weight. According to my friend, she's really been listening a ton, and is just sounding more optimistic about her life, and self image. Thank you!

Highly recommend!

This is a tough subject to cover and has been done so passionately and considerately. While targeted at young teenage women it provides some very grounding strategies for anyone dealing with anorexia. I would highly recommend this to anyone who thinks they or their child may be suffering this way.

you're not alone

In this heartfelt exploration of teens struggling with anorexia, the author identifies the physical, behavioral, and emotional dangers that accompany this serious mental health condition. Anorexia can manifest physically through significant weight loss, fatigue, and severe malnutrition. Behaviorally, it often involves extreme food restriction, excessive exercise, and a preoccupation with body image. Emotionally, sufferers may experience intense feelings of worthlessness, anxiety, and depression. The narrative dispels the myth that anyone chooses to have anorexia, emphasizing that it is a complex disorder that requires compassion and understanding.

Despite the challenges, the book focuses on the positive, highlighting that recovery is possible and that it is okay not to be okay. The author encourages readers to seek help and lean on their support systems, showcasing inspiring stories of teens who have found strength and healing through therapy, family, and friends. The message is clear: while anorexia is a difficult journey, acknowledging the struggle and seeking support can lead to a brighter, healthier future.

Excellent information for anyone suffering BDD

I have never had an issue with BDD or eating. I think in society there a small percentage of men that suffer from this. Hoever the information in the book is outstanding and well organized. The proactical approach to understanding that this is a disease of the mind is paramont. As a father I have to say that I know at least one of my girls suffered with body image concerns. The anxiety and depression that come with this take as big a toil as anorexia or bulemia. I found the narration very well done and while this topic is one of the harder ones to listen to I know this is necessary information that the world needs. Well done on the writing and narration!

RESOURCEFUL / EASY READ

I am thrilled with Cutting Yourself on the Inside, which I recently ordered.

It is written in a way that was also understandable to teenagers, which was another thing I appreciated. Any of my children who picked up a copy might quickly recognize the information as being relevant and helpful without feeling stigmatized by it. The Anxiety Squad was incredibly helpful in giving my teens a name for the feelings that were consuming them.

This is a fantastic resource to have on hand because the information and suggestions were so thoughtfully prepared and presented. Kids face a lot of challenges in life, and I think we can refer back to this book time and time again.
