Publisher's Summary

Audie Award Winner, Personal Development, 2013

Author Benjamin Hoff shows that the philosophy of Winnie-the-Pooh is amazingly consistent with the principles of Taoism and demonstrates how you can use these principles in your daily life.

Is there such thing as a Western Taoist? Benjamin Hoff says there is, and this Taoist's favorite food is honey. Through brilliant and witty dialogue with the beloved Pooh-bear and his companions, the author of this smash bestseller explains with ease and aplomb that rather than being a distant and mysterious concept, Taoism is as near and practical to us as our morning breakfast bowl. Romp through the enchanting world of Winnie-the-Pooh while soaking up invaluable lessons on simplicity and natural living.

While Eeyore frets and Piglet hesitates and Rabbit calculates and Owl pontificates, Pooh just is. And that's the clue to the secret wisdom of the Taoists.

The Tao of Pooh is an international bestseller and the first Taoist-authored book in history to appear on bestseller lists, it remained on The New York Times’ bestseller list for 49 weeks.

    "A great short listen!"

I absolutely loved this book. It was a quick listen and the way the author banters back and forth with Pooh made me smile throughout the book. Definitely worth the time to listen, and you learn a thing or two about the Taoism.

    "Enlightening and Entertaining, but One-sided"

This book uses simple beloved and well-known characters to explain some vary complex concepts. Unfortunately like many "comparative" works it emphasizes its own points (Taoism) strongly while only presenting negative examples or examples out of context of other viewpoints (Confucianism, Buddhism, Scientific exploration, Alpha Male/Female personality or ambition) citing their end goals as meaningless and unfulfilling. While this may be true in many cases, it is hardly true for all cases, or even most cases.

A simple book of wisdom based on another simple book of wisdom. It took me back to childhood and taught me what it means.

"Too much time dwelling on negative traits."

Ended up accelerating the pace to get through, so much seems to dwell on failings of others. Ended feeling like a celebration of addled and empty thinking rather than a zen peaceful, mindfulness. Left feeling contrived rather than enlightened.

"Pretty decent try, but not sure if I liked it "

The book was okay. too anti-knowledge and pro-laziness. But it was a good vantage point on Taoism.

"Romanticized Magical Thinking - Bah Humbug!"
    Any additional comments?

I found the Tao of Pooh to be sanctimonious and aggressively anti-intellectual. Right now greed and magical thinking seem to me a much greater threat to us all than "knowledge and cleverness" which the author relentlessly criticizes.

Having said that, the author's use of Winnie the Pooh to illustrate his exposition was clever and charming and the narrator did a very good job.

    "Fun Read"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Tao of Pooh to be better than the print version?

Anything in regards to Winnie-the-Pooh and everything related to it is going to be great. That being said I enjoyed the audiobook since Mr. Vance sounds like how a grown up Christopher Robin would sound like.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

I really enjoyed the analysis of the characters in relation to Taoism.

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first Simon Vance narration I have listened to so I am very happy I liked this book.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

I enjoyed learning about how wise Winnie-the-Pooh is.

    "The Tao of Pooh"

A simple, but beautiful book, and beautifully narrated by Simon Vance. I enjoyed it as an adult, but this would also be suitable for children. This must become a timeless classic. It was a joy to listen to.
