A shocking murder rocks a small seaside community...

Newly minted special agent Patterson Blake, fresh out of Quantico, hasn’t seen much action since arriving at the FBI’s New York Field Office weeks before. In fact, she’s beginning to think her life will be nothing but routine inquiries and boring paperwork.

Until she receives a call late one night with an unexpected assignment. A man has been brutally murdered. Bludgeoned to death on the stage of a community theater in the idyllic resort town of Montauk.

Now she must team up with an experienced special agent to investigate a disturbing crime that has left an entire community on edge.

As the rookie agent and her partner dig deeper into the horrific killing, they will uncover a web of deceit and betrayal that will leave them baffled. And put their very lives in danger.

Patterson Blake is about to discover that the FBI is anything but boring…

This book is a prequel to the Patterson Blake Mystery Thriller Series but can be listened to as a stand-alone.

If you like Catherine Coulter, James Patterson, David Baldacci, J.D. Robb, Karen Slaughter, or Mary Burton, you will love Patterson Blake.

Good story

Only negative I can say is the narrative. Everyone except the main character sounded as if they were having trouble speaking or either were short of breath. It was rather irritating. Same as with book one which I read prior to this one.

Prequel to the Patterson Blake series

Meet Patterson Blake. She is a very recent graduate of Quantico FBI training and is now an agent. This is her first field case. She and her supervising agent are called to resolve a brutal bludgeoning murder of a small time director of a play. They go through the process to determine who the killer is.

Honestly, this is a pretty straightforward police procedural with an interesting lead and a future that we know will include more complex puzzles to solve. But everyone has to start somewhere. I must say that this is probably quite a bit more excitement than most real life agents see, perhaps in their entire career. But it's kept pretty realistic and relatable. There is no profanity or sex, although it is alluded to as part of the case. There is violence, but no more than seen most nights on network TV.

If you enjoy the Patterson Blake series, see how it all began. If you enjoy police procedurals, this should fit the bill. If you are looking for crazy over the top action and near superhuman feats, you may want to look elsewhere. Recommended as a good solid crime investigation story.
