Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Kat Martin raises the tension and the passion when family ambition turns deadly....

Harper Winston’s brother has disappeared. Pursuing his dream of sailing the Caribbean, Michael hasn’t responded to texts or emails in days. When even the Coast Guard can’t find him, Harper is forced to take desperate measures. Which means going to Chase Garrett, once her brother’s best friend, now the only man she can trust...or so she hopes.

As the successful owner of Maximum Security, Chase has learned to trust his gut. He knows Harper’s father is mixed up in a deadly business and suspects there’s more to Michael’s disappearance than meets the eye. Getting involved again with the Winstons goes against everything he stands for, yet old loyalties die hard. As the case draws him closer to Harper and deeper into the Winstons’ snarled crime family, he is forced to put everything on the line to keep Harper safe...and both of them alive.

The Conspiracy

I REALLY wanted to like this book. I fast forwarded over so many ill timing sex scenes. I'm pretty sure sex would be the last thing on my mind if I was kidnapped. Is it a requirement to have sex scenes in every chapter? How about having strong female characters? I've given up on finding good romantic suspense books.
I will be returning this book.

Hero completely lacks morality

The hero is so slimy I couldn’t get through the book. I liked the plot and the action scenes were well done but when you find yourself grossing out when the heroine lets the hero touch her the romance is a bust

Slow and narration needs help.

The narrator has a decent enough voice, but hIs female voice made the heroine sound like a old and weak woman. I think the author wanted to make these men of The Max, big alpha males, but it just didn’t come through.

On top of that the story is slooooow. I almost gave up listening to this and am not sure I shouldn’t have quit, but I made myself do it. There are a million different story lines that could come off this book, but unless they shorten up or have a different narrator, I’m going to say “no thanks”.

Another amazing story!

This book kept me turning page after page. The story had so many twists and turns with great characters. I fell for Chase the way he tried to do the best for Harper and fought his feelings for her and be a gentleman and keep her safe and find her brother too. Another great book by a great author and a very nice lady.

Nope

DNF

I really love romantic suspense, and this one sounded amazing. Unfortunately, this was not for me and I did end up DNF (did not finish) this one.

This started off really strong, and I thought I would run through this one. Then it took a turn that just lost me. I was not expecting pirates and rebels and such. It was just not something that interested me enough to continue.

I also love romance, and need some sort of romance in a story to really love it. This just did not work for me. It was like steamy and sexy thoughts and scenes were thrown in at the very wrong times. It annoyed me.

Overall, this is disappointing as book two is also on the way and I have no desire to pick it up at this time.

Enter Chase Garrett and his security team..can Chase keep Harper safe and find her brother? Especially since he knows that her father is involved. Good story and HEA.

Insipid

I can’t believe I even listened to the whole thing. It was predictable and silly. I would not recommend

Good

Ryan Turner was a first and did a good job of narrating. ( I missed Jack Garrett's performances) The story was good, and suspenseful. I recommend listening to this audiobook. 😄

very good story.

Good plot. Narrator did a good job. The thing I liked the best is that the author did not write in the heroine doing something totally ridiculous or implausible just to force a story line. That happens far to often.
