Beginning was slow but picked up

At first I thought it would be a dud. Glad I didn't stop listening. The twists and turns really threw me and the ending was awesome. A good book all around. I'm glad I bought it. 😀😀

Good not great

I've read all of K L Slaters books. While not on the level of some of her past books it's still not bad. Took me awhile to get into this one but it picks up about halfway in. Not bad but she has better ones.

Dull - and then ridiculous

I've read all of Slater's books, and, while none are what could be called "substantial", this one hits a new low. It's an average, albeit boring, story for three-quarters of the book, and then BOOM: it becomes completely ludicrous and laughable. Even Lucy Price-Lewis can't save this drivel. I think this will be my last Slater book.

Misses the mark

I'm a big KL Slater fan. She simply missed the mark with this one. It took soooo long to develop Holly's backstory that the reader was much less invested in her. Without spoiling the plot, I must say it would have been so much better to drop at least some of her motivation much earlier in the book. The twist at the end was well thought out but by then you just didn't care enough about the characters. This had some of the makings of a really great psychological thriller but missed the mark completely.

The First Stinker From One of my Favourite Authors

I took a few days to decide what I wanted to say about 'The Visitor.' I wanted to continue to rave about K.L. Slater and her wonderful psychological twists and turns. The problem is, this book was.. well.. awful. There was no real story line, the characters didn't connect and there was no point.

I highly recommend reading LIAR by K.L. Slater or, well.. anything else. Maybe she needs to take a hiatus from book writing. I respect her trying to put out as many as possible, especially with her recent success. This book however, is just not good.

Disappointed, but will still keep reading her books. Everyone can slip once in awhile.

Great ending. Tedious book

I almost quit and returned several times but I hung in there. Ending was great.

A Drama That Doesn't Quite Deliver

The thriller genre is a fairly broad church containing everything from Jack Reacher's famously high body counts to the kind of books that K L Slater writes. These Slater books are more well-written dramas than outright thrillers and this one more than most. I found it engaging and enjoyable even though it is an extremely patient and low key setup. It is of course extremely well read by Lucy Price-Lewis who is one of the best narrators in the business for these kinds of books. There is a lot to like here.

Unfortunately, after the slow patient build up the last hour or so of the book suddenly goes a bit crazy. Although several of the key characters are built up for potentially odd behaviour it all just loses cohesion in a frantic final denouement that just didn't feel fitting. There were just too many convenient examples of characters dialling up the unexpected.

I will stick with this author, she has a quality of writing about her and an eye for making relatively mundane situations genuinely engaging but I felt oddly dissatisfied at the end of it all. She just didn't convince me like she has in the past.

The Visitor

This was OK crime thriller, but rather unbelievable and far fetched at times. The character of David was written as though he was autistic, but it was never explicitly stated.

An okay listen

I have listened to a few other KL Slater books and really loved them so was looking forward to this one, however to be honest it was a bit disappointing. Not as many twists and turns as her other stories and quite predictable
