He'll make sure she never wants to leave....

Holly never thought she'd move back to her hometown, but then something terrible happened. She doesn't know if she can recover. But she knows she can never tell another soul.

People say her neighbour, David, is 'different'. He doesn't go out much, and never after dark. But in David, Holly finds just what she needs: a friend. Someone who's always there.

No-one knows Holly's secret or where she lives. She has left the past behind. She is sure of it. So why does she feel as though she's in terrible danger?

Beginning was slow but picked up

At first I thought it would be a dud. Glad I didn't stop listening. The twists and turns really threw me and the ending was awesome. A good book all around. I'm glad I bought it. 😀😀

Good not great

I've read all of K L Slaters books. While not on the level of some of her past books it's still not bad. Took me awhile to get into this one but it picks up about halfway in. Not bad but she has better ones.

*SPOILER-ISH REVIEW*

I don't mind reading stories about bad people, but the writing, the plot, and the dialogue need to be spot on. And they need to have self-awareness of their own character.
This book was pretty much all bad people with NO self-awareness, bad dialogue, and a long, boring, drawn out story. I think David was written to be somewhere on the spectrum. Can't be sure as he was also a stalker with delusions and anger issues. Holly was a manipulative psycho. She was also an unreliable narrator but whether or not she knows the truth about Evan is unclear, even at the end(even though a quick Google search could've shown her the truth).
I won't be reading this author again. I'm just not into her style, which is to create a "mysterious" past which is revealed little by little in flashbacks.

meh...haven't we heard this ending before?

Promising and interesting right up til the end! the characters are VERY similar to characters from another of Slaters books and this ending is very similar as well! So disappointed in the ending and some missed opportunities to build suspense with all those suspects on the peripheral.

very far fetched!

love the narrator (who I think does all of the books by Slater). This book starts off really engrossing. lots of good character development and really suspenseful situations... then the last 30% is, frankly, really unbelievable. i usually really like Slater's books, and I know some of her others have quite far fetched endings, but this one was just... too much. To the extent that I completely lost interest.

Slow confusing

I have read most of this authors books and I usually love them but this one was very confusing it would go back in time and you would get computers because they wouldn’t tell you you were going back in time it was very slow until the very last two hours of the book I do not recommend

Terrible!!!

The only good thing about this title is that I now know I can trust the reviews. The amount of stars are not consistent with the feedback because I didn’t think 4 stars was bad. I failed to read the reviews until the middle of this book - my bad. Nothing slightly significant happened until around chapter 52. The story was all over the place. Didn’t care about the characters. Maybe 1 character is like able. Some events happened out of nowhere. The end is so unbelievable. You’ll say “really?” Extremely disappointed. I’ve never selected a book by this author, so I’m now skeptical about selecting another. I do love Lucy, the narrator, and will always be a fan of her work!

Can't Even Finish

Debating to ask for my money back on this one. At this point I don't think I'll even finish the book

Umm what

The performance was good, but the story was strange. Zero likable characters, which I think was the point. Just felt like a waste of time once it was all over.
