Better Than Expected

After listening to Slater's "Liar," I was bracing myself for another bad ending, but was pleasantly surprised. This is a tightly-plotted, evocatively-written story that I thoroughly recommend. Slater does an excellent job of making the reader understand the vulnerability of abuse victims and the mentally ill, and how tragedy can shape bright, ordinary people into crushingly sad and neurotic members of society.

Just ok

It was just ok, I didnt see the twists coming because it seemed like the story switched altogether. I actually had to restart after a few chaptera because I was lost on the characters.

Not the best

Not the most interesting book I have listened to. Anna is a bit boring and the story is drawn out. Used my credit for it and wish now that I had not.

Ridiculous Story

Don't bother. Ridiculous plot and same descriptions of her inner turmoil over and over ad nausem. The plot was so twisted that you did not know what was going on. Anna the main character had NO redeeming qualities and not at all likable or relatable. I believe the author tried to put TOO much mystery that it was completely lost. I often listen to my books more than once but I cannot bring myself to listen to it again. I really wanted to like the story.

True to her style!

Huge fan of KL Slater, so I wasn't put off by the negative reviews. Yes, this can be all over the place, but it is necessary to lay the foundation for the ending. Narrator is easy to listen to and does a great job of pulling you into the story. This delves right into the psyche of everyone's mind. "I'm fine. You're fine. We're all fine." Until we're not.

Unexpected

Loved the twists and turns in this one. Even enjoyed listening to it more than once. I feel there are some grey areas in the story line though that don't make sense, however maybe they aren't supposed to or maybe they are lost on me. That however doesnt distract from thus being a great listen.

Similar in some ways to her other book secrets

I liked it But it really runs close to other book secrets. Woman has a crush on a man who isn't interested. Boy being beaten. It kept me interested though I never cared for the main characters.

An entertaining listen!

As always, K.L. Slater’s books are entertaining and full of suspense. She gives you enough pieces to figure some things out, but this book, like others, had me fooled until the very end. Lots of little mysteries wrapped inside one book to make you want to find time to listen to just “ a little bit more!”

Annoying protagonist

I couldn't get past the negative attitude of the protagonist. I usually like books by K.L.Slater but not this one. I found the protagonist to be annoying, lacking in judgment, deceitful, and misguided. I didn't have the patience to pursue the book past the first few chapters. The narrator is excellent, however.

Disappointed

I love this author but this book was quite different. To start off I disliked the main character. There was no sympathy and in fact she was almost made me uncomfortable at times. It was very slow but picked up toward the end but it was a very confusing ending with a few things unanswered.
