I nearly threw the letter about the inheritance away with the recycling. Late for work, worrying about how I would afford new school shoes for Kate, I just assumed it was a mistake. But perhaps moving to a new home in a quiet seaside town would be the fresh start we both need. Away from the school bullies making Kate’s life a misery, and out of the clutches of my dangerous ex.

Story
When Freya first met Phil, she thought he was the man of her dreams. He bought her roses every week, booked surprise trips to sun-soaked destinations, and showed her affection like she’d never experienced before. But over time the dream had become a violent nightmare. And now Freya is packing her bags, knowing it’s time she escaped their increasingly broken marriage. But then Freya gets a visit from the police. Phil’s been in a horrific car crash and - as he comes around - it becomes clear that he remembers nothing since their blissful honeymoon two years before.

Story
Fran finds her standing by the swings. A little girl, Esther, no older than seven years old, by herself in the dead of night, her pretty but old-fashioned yellow dress covered in grass stains and her hair dishevelled. She says she's waiting for Father, and that strikes Fran as particularly odd. After Esther is reunited with her family, Fran can't stop thinking about this pious child whose imaginary friend is God. Fran's instincts tell her something is very wrong. Why does Esther keep running away from home, and how did she get that bruise on her leg?

Story
I return home to our beautiful house on a chilly winter evening expecting to find my handsome husband Richard waiting for me by the fire. We’re still so in love, and he always takes care of me. He usually comes straight back from work. But tonight, our antique clock ticks on through the dark evening, with no sign of him. Then a knock at the door shatters my perfect life. A 12-year-old-girl, Alice from the village, has been found unconscious in the field behind our house. They say she was last seen getting into Richard’s car.

Publisher's Summary
What was my sister doing standing over Florence’s cot in the middle of the night?
I trust my sister, Carrie, with my daughter’s life.
But then she’s accused of a terrible crime.
Carrie lives under our roof, she pushes my daughter on the swings, she takes her out for ice cream.
You might ask, why do I let her? Why would I risk my darling baby? How could I let my sister stay?
Because I have a dangerous secret, too. One that only Carrie knows about. And if that secret gets out, I could lose my little girl....
A completely gripping rollercoaster of a listen about the darkness families hide behind closed doors. Fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train will be hooked on The Girl She Wanted.

Well Done!
The new KL Slater was of course, listened to voraciously in one night by yours truly. A fan of her work, I find most of her audiobooks impossible to stop listening to. This was no exception.
Wife and husband have one year old baby. Wife's sister is outstaying her welcome as a guest of the household. Wife's sister seems to be in a whole lot of trouble. And things aren't looking up for her at all.
KL Slater is maturing as a writer. If you read her newer books, you'll find a lot more character development, and many more facets to the mystery. The twists are surprising and the characters are likable. The only criticism I have is that she lets the story drag on too long. There are too many chapters in 'The Girl She Wanted' which have been written after the denouement. However, it's a very enjoyable book nonetheless.
Great stuff!

Very good. Clean.
I love KL slater’s writing.she writes people so perfectly. The only thing i didn’t love about this book was that it took a little too long to get into the suspense and intricacies of the plot. At first it seemed it was a simple “did she or didn’t she and how is this couple going to get past this. Eventually Slater’s craft showed itself as the reader develops more questions and more mysteries unfold. Be patient and you will enjoy this story. If you like stories to wrap up nicely at the end you’ll like this because Slater does not end the story abruptly as many authors do these days. You get closure on all of the characters and story lines. Perhaps a little too much time at the end doing this, but nice nonetheless. Looking forward to her next book.

Thought relationship with my sister was complicated…
Not going to give anything away, but firstly, what an amazingly unique, complicated, crazy yet somewhat relatable storyline. On one hand, I can empathize with her struggle to see or believe anything unhinged about her sister, but on the other hand, as a mother I cringed at the decision making. Regardless of the outcome, early on, it’s clear that both of these girls need some help, but is her sister guilty??
There were several fantastic qualities to this book, but the storyline was somewhat far-fetched and sometimes felt a little “patch worked”.

Easy Domestic Thriller
Easy to follow, pleasant, domestic thriller, told from the perspective of a young mother. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The downside being perhaps that it lacks dramatic twists-and-turns all the way through and the ending is not so satisfying. . . . . . . . . Her older sister is a nurse, and is under investigation for the deaths of two patients at the hospital where she works. The suspense is built around whether the older sister be trusted to be living in same house as the younger sister's one-year-old baby. In my view, quite a good book, but K L Slater has written better. The reading by Kristin Atherton however, is top notch.
