Publisher's summary

A stylish psychological thriller with the compelling intrigue of The Silent Wife and Turn of Mind and the white-knuckle pacing of Before I Go to Sleep - in which a woman suffering from bipolar disorder cannot remember if she murdered her friend.

Dana Catrell is shocked when her neighbor, Celia, is brutally murdered. To Dana's horror she was the last person to see Celia alive. Suffering from mania, the result of her bipolar disorder, she has troubling holes in her memory, including what happened on the afternoon of Celia's death.

Her husband’s odd behavior and the probing of Detective Jack Moss create further complications as she searches for answers. The closer she comes to piecing together the shards of her broken memory, the more Dana falls apart. Is there a murderer lurking inside her...or is there one out there in the shadows of reality, waiting to strike again?

A story of marriage, murder, and madness, The Pocket Wife explores the world through the foggy lens of a woman on the edge.

Narration pretty good. Story not bad but sometimes it dragged and I lost attention a lot. Still, Dana had issues, and those issues were handled realistically. That was refreshing.

Haunting and Suspenseful

Crawford’s beautiful prose is juxtaposed by the story itself, the haunting quest of a bipolar woman in the middle of a breakdown to understand herself and the events that lead to the breakdown. Left with a dead body, an unfaithful husband and a cynical cop, she must outrun her broken brain and maybe even a murderer. Or is it she herself? Light as a feather, this dark topic is confronted ina dreamlike fashion that never loses speed.

Pretty good story...lackluster ending.

The narrative and storyline is intriguing. The mystery thickens but fails to climax. The ending was disappointing

was not my cup of tea

I stuck with it because I was curious. I am disappointed when I waste time.

Didn't care for whiny performance

The story was okay- your typical murder mystery- but the performance nearly made me stop listening. Just too whiny and airy for my nerves to handle.

Sooooo long

The storyline was good, but the author took so long to get there. I didn't think it was worth the listen

Quite a mystery. Not a typical novel

Limited dialogue through the majority of the novel. This lack of dialogue makes it difficult at times to move forward. If it wasn't for wanting to know who did it, I would not have finished.

If you like the grating voice of an imitation “tart” this book is for you.

HATED the narrator’s voice and the constant use of the word “tart”. Listen to a sample before buying this book! Not sure why I didn’t do that first. I’ve never been so irritated by a narrator’s voice before.

The overall story is okay, nothing special, your run of the mill whodunnit. It’s all over the place and really hard to focus on. Constant obvious happenings to the reader, but not at all obvious to the main character - who is a bipolar twit that is veering off in la la land and random weird thoughts every two minutes.
