Loved this book

Found this to be a delightful mystery full of twists and turns. The period details come out to make for an intriguing story with just the right touch of lightness. I really enjoyed listening to this book

Pretty good mystery!

Good story, good reader, and it's a cozy. I think, dear reader, that I may have been reading too many pre and post WWII lady detective novels, and hence the lost star. I do hope for another nonetheless!😊

Meh.....

Have to say it felt like the author phoned this one in. The narrator was O.K, a bit blasé and I could never really "buy" in to her. It was an easy listen, just not impressed. Save your credit.

Good classic mystery

This the the second book I've read by Clara Benson, whom I understand to be (or write in the style of?) one of the Golden Age mystery writers. This book is very much in that genre, taking place with the sort of genteel upper crust sort of people with lots of time on their hands, that typically appear in British mysteries of the time.

Angela Marchmont is a woman who seems clever at solving mysteries (we are told she did so, though not being a detective, in a first book--not available on audible). Even though she insists she is not an investigator, she is asked by Louisa Haynes to look into several deaths that have occurred in her family which are being passed off as due to explainable events, but about which she has questions. The patriarch, Phillip Haynes had left a very strange will, that puts the inheritance into strange circumstances.

There are a number of characters to keep up with, but periodically through the book, Benson finds ways to summarize what is so far known, to help the listener/reader keep up with the cast and clues. The writing style is very similar to Christie and others of the time.

However, I did not feel that Elizabeth Klett's narration was the best for this book. She has a high pitched voice, which is lovely, but would be better suited for a different style of book. It did not convey the sense of seriousness appropriate to a story where people are investigating suspicious deaths somehow. It lacked a sort of gravity. So my 3 stars are not to suggest she's a bad narrator, but more to say she was the wrong one for this book (in my opinion). Still, it was a good listen, as I love the old mysteries. They are fun and satisfying.

I'm so glad I found this series

I am elated to find this series! I love agatha Christie, Conan doyle, the lord Peter whimsy stories. It's such a blessing to find a new author with great cozy mysteries!!! I pray she keeps writing them and has them made into audiobooks as well!!

Riveting mystery

Angela Marchmont progresses logically and steadily to figuring out who the murderer is in this very well written mystery. The narrator Elizabeth Klett has a great English accent and the ability to use different character voices. The ending is quite suspenseful. Once started you will want to listen until you too know all!

Just rather dull

I'm just over half way through and I'm struggling to care about anyone in it. It's not cosy it's just dull, very disappointed as I thought I'd found my new series.
