Publisher's summary

From the creator of the award-winning ITV series Prime Suspect, this is Jane Tennison's story, from rookie police officer to fully fledged detective.

Every legend has a beginning....

During 1974 and 1975, the IRA subjected London to a terrifying bombing campaign. In one day alone, they planted seven bombs at locations across central London. Some were defused - some were not.

Jane Tennison is now a fully fledged detective. On the way to court one morning, Jane passes through Covent Garden Underground station and is caught up in a bomb blast that leaves several people dead and many horribly injured. Jane is a key witness but is adamant that she can't identify the bomber. When a photograph appears in the newspapers showing Jane assisting the injured at the scene, it puts her and her family at risk from IRA retaliation.

Good Friday is the eagerly awaited date of the annual formal CID dinner, due to take place at St Ermin's Hotel. Hundreds of detectives and their wives will be there. It's the perfect target. As Jane arrives for the evening, she realises that she recognises the parking attendant as the bomber from Covent Garden. Can she convince her senior officers in time, or will another bomb destroy London's entire detective force?

Bad Friday

Hope Jane TENNISON took some intelligence drugs. She is simply too stupid to become the sharp detective she later became based on this gormless person

Very confusing chronology..

I've been attempting to listen to the Jane Tennison/Prime Suspect books in a chronological manner but it's very confusing:
EXAMPLE - "Series: Prime Suspect, Book 2, Jane Tennison, Book 7"
So - which is it? Should we follow the links to the Prime Suspect listings or the ones for Jane Tennison? The 1st title I 'read' had her as a DCI, then in the 2nd she was still a DC. It's not as enjoyable listening to them this way....

Another exceptional Lynda La Plants book

I am a huge Lynda La Plante fan, and once again she does not disappoint. I initially hesitated to read this book because the IRA bombings are long in the past and I was worried the story would not be relevant. Because of her focus on character development and real human emotions, I feel this story is timeless and as relevant today as at was in 1974.

Predictable

No suspense in this at all. It’s easy to predict the ending after a few chapters. Not really a mystery at all.
