Publisher's summary

In the cold light of dawn, a dead body is found in the smouldering remains of a burnt-out Cotswold manor.

Key House has stood empty for years, but its owner, Gervase Crown, was seen nearby just before the blaze. Is he responsible, or was he the intended target?

As Campbell and Carter begin their investigation it becomes clear that Gervase wasn't particularly popular and his return reawakens old memories, not all of them good.

Dull in every way

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Unlike in the Fran Varaday series, the characters in this book fail to come alive and the plot is very slow moving. The narration is also rather colourless and while I did not dislike the recording enough to ask to return it, I would not order another in the series.

Would you recommend Bricks and Mortality to your friends? Why or why not?

No, because it is very slow moving

What three words best describe Judith Boyd’s voice?

Not enough variety.

Did Bricks and Mortality inspire you to do anything?

I will keep to the Fran Varady series by this writer
