Publisher's summary

Cherringham - a quiet town in the Cotswolds. Nothing ever happens there, or so it seems - until one morning a woman's body is found in the river. A terrible accident, according to the police. But is this true? Sarah believes there must be more to it. In Jack, a former NYPD homicide detective, she finds a partner who is willing to start investigating with her. They soon find out that things are not as clear as the police want them to be ... This first - of many cases brings Sarah and Jack together in an unlikely partnership.

Cherringham is a serial novel à la Charles Dickens, with a new audio episode released every two weeks. Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby.

Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick listen for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa. For fans of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple series, Lilian Jackson Braun's "The Cat Who" series, Caroline Graham's "Midsomer Murders", and the American TV series "Murder She Wrote", starring Angela Lansbury.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham. The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of "DCI John Barnaby" in "Midsomer Murders" and "Jim Riley" in "The Life of Riley". He is also known for his film roles in "The Nativity", "Sorted" and "Son of Rambow". In 2012 Dudgeon starred as "Norman Birkett" on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

Easy listen

Enjoyed listening as I fell asleep at night. Found it easy to go back close to where I’d dozed off. Definitely recommend.

I was skeptical

BUT this gentle mystery series is well written, well narrated, has good characters and is perfect for a “light” listen.

Worst Recording!!

The audible levels of the reader on this recording are a distraction from the story. The levels go from too loud to a whisper. I spent so much time turning the volume down and then up again I lost out on the storytelling. So annoying! I doubt I will continue with this series unless I get it on my Kindle.

Narrator difficult to understand at times

The narrator frequently drops his voice from a normal speaking level to a whisper so faint as to be unintelligible.

Quick, satisfying little mystery!

Great compact story - gets to the essentials of the story. Totally enjoyed the narrator (who also stars in the Midsomer Murder TV series.) This short story will quench my mystery book fix til I have time for a full-length one.

We meet in Cherringham

I have started back at the beginning. I was waiting to begin a book and came upon Cherringham. I enjoyed the series so much, and the reader, that I again just finished the first book in the series. Enjoyed it as much as the last time I read it. This reviewed just how the two " mystery solving" detectives first met and started solving murders.

A good book

At first I couldn’t get into this book, but as it got further into it, the plot began to unwind. A bit of a slow start, but once it got going, I began to see how it would end. I would recommend it to anyone who likes mystery stories.

Enjoyable

Good story and enjoyed the characters. One tiny gripe is that the narrators voice sometimes dipped so soft and low I couldn’t quite catch the words yet it was loud enough for other words to boom at me.

On the whole though, really enjoyed this.

Sound quality.

I found the sound dropping considerably a few times during the reading of the book which spoilt it for me. Otherwise a good read.

Pleasant story

Simple story with no twists and turns. Reader pleasant to listen to but kept dropping his voice making it hard to follow as I couldn't always hear him.
