Mindfulness - Boring Beyond Words

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Depth - shallow view on 'mindful thought'. Repetition is overwhelming and useless after the first couple of chapters. I made it through 13 before calling it quits. Sorry I ordered the workbooks now.

Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Norman again?

Likely not. Surprised this was published.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Narrator wasn't the problem - lack of meaningful content was. Three stars was only a reference to the lack of subject matter.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment, boredom.

Any additional comments?

I began to count the number of times that the word 'mindful' and its variations was used - that's how repaticious this series is. I've enjoyed many 'self-improvement/self-help' books in my lifetime and never encountered something that was so incredibly basic.

Great series of talks

This is a great series of talks. It's an extensive overview of mindfulness from someone who has studied and observed it's effectiveness in professional practice. Robert Norman understands the source of mindfulness but the narrative is always educational rather than religious. His tone is light-hearted, and clear-sighted how to stay in moment, Release Stress and Anxiety and Learn Positive Thinking. Everything is explained plainly from every perspective imaginable so that even the most sceptical listener must appreciate the value of these techniques.

Its a lifestyle

Mindfullnes is a way to be more happy, the cientific formation of the instructor takes away esoteric view of these practice and adapt to the actual way of western life. Very recommended.

I haven't finished the book yet.

Eye opening

I make this caveat up front, I haven't gotten all the way through this course yet. I don't normally do this, but I have a purpose in writing the review before I have completed the whole series. That purpose is in the first 2 lectures. This course is worth it if all you do is listen (carefully) to the first 2 lectures. The whole course is about using meditation as a tool, but the goal is mindfulness. If you can stand to look at yourself critically, listen to the first 2 lectures and then objectively consider where you fall on being mindful. Just the mere understanding of this concept, which is expertly explained and demonstrated, is eye opening. If you want to get more out of your life, your day-to-day existence, take 1 hour and listen to the first 2 lectures.

Useful Information and Engaging

Exceeded my expectations. I will revisit several sections. Thoughtful lectures. He does bring in some philosophy which I enjoyed.
