Publisher's Summary

Laurie Gelman's clever debut about a year in the life of a kindergarten class mom - a brilliant send-up of the petty and surprisingly cutthroat terrain of parent politics.

Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom - or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it's her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max - this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA president sees her as the "wisest" candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.

From recording parents' response times to her emails about helping in the classroom to requesting contributions of "special" brownies for curriculum night, not all of Jen's methods win approval from the other moms. Throw in an old flame from Jen's past, a hypersensitive "allergy mom", a surprisingly sexy kindergarten teacher, and an impossible-to-please Real Housewife wannabe causing problems at every turn, and the job really becomes much more than she signed up for.

Relatable, irreverent, and hilarious in the spirit of Maria Semple, this is a fresh, welcome voice in fiction - the kind of audiobook that real moms clamor for and a vicarious listen for all mothers, who will be laughing as they are liberated by Gelman's acerbic truths.

    "Pretty Impressive"

As a mom with grown children, I had my doubts about my ability to relate to this novel. As it turns out, it wasn't limited to mom's with grown children or mom's to be or even to those whom have not considered motherin

    "Hysterical!"

This book was so much fun! There were lots of emails written exactly how you really want to write them, along with just enough drama in and out if the kindergarten classroom. Kindergarten parents can be a crazy bunch. I highly recommend this fun read (listen). Speaking of that, the narrator, also the author, did a fabulous job. I loved her voice and intonations.

Fun and lighthearted but not sure I would have found it very compelling if I were not a class mom for the first time this year.

    "Amazing!!!"

Being a mom of 4 kids who are 6, 7, 8, and 10 and having been a room mom for the past 3 years, I felt I could totally relate to Class Mom. The book follows are main character Jen Dixon through her year of being head class mom for her Kindergarten son, Max's, class. Her emails to parents are what we all wish we could actually send out and she navigates through the gossip and drama of other moms and their kids along the way. She also has her own drama when her crush from High School shows up as a parent to one of the kids in class and her son's teacher harbors some secrets of her own. Every chapter offers something new and exciting!! I found myself listening to this book in the bath tub, in bed with ear plugs, and while running errands. I couldn't stop listening to it! Any mom, especially room moms will love this book as well as anyone who enjoys a good novel with laughter, gossip, love, and friendships!!

    "Hilarious from the Start"

Whether you have been a class mom or your mom was your class mom, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. It's funny all the way through from start to finish. A nice break from all the serious reading that I do. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

    "Don't waste your audible credit!!"

DO NOT WASTE YOUR AUDIBLE CREDIT! There is a reason authors hire others to narrate their books. This author reads her own book and her voice is super scratchy and annoying. Surprised at the other ratings that this was a good book. Very entry level book, poorly written and is more like two moms having a convo with dry humor. Very disappointed that this was recommended from audible.

    "Save your money!"

I am a teacher and yes I have also been a classroom mom. This book is so unrealistic it's not even funny. There are parts that don't even make sense. The beginning was funny but half way through I couldn't wait to finish.

    "Incredibly Funny!"

This is the funniest book I have ever listened to on Audible. I often listen to books for a couple of hours once a week while zipping around and getting chores done at home. But this book was different. I looked for every possible moment in the day to listen to more of it because the story draws you in so effectively and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next! I would highly recommend this book and I can't wait for Laura German to write her next book!

Mildly entertaining. The narration was too fast, needed to take a breath once in awhile.
