Publisher's summary

Sometimes, the past is best left behind....

Char longs for peace and escape, preferring her dreams to the ugly realities of an uncertain age. As an illegitimate daughter of the North Prince, Char has always felt deep insecurity, but she must put that aside when Zaxx gives her the task of retrieving an ancient crown from her family’s palace. If she brings him this crown, he says, he will allow the dragon hoard to choose their riders.

When her father sends for her to return home, fearing war, she senses an opportunity. But Char’s dragon, Paxala, has grander ideas - she wants to become the greatest of all dragons and defeat the ancient Zaxx. But she can’t do it without Char’s guidance and aid. Employing patience and skill, Char will have to learn the secrets of dragon lore hidden away in her father's archives before Zaxx’s suspicions turn aggressive.

With the help of her love, Neill, Char discovers the secret of the old queen’s crown in her father’s castle, learning a tale of dark magic steeped in blood. But when her father wishes to marry her off to the leader of the Wildmen, the fate of Torvald will depend on her difficult choice: accept the role she has always played, or learn to trust her own power.

I recieved this book free of charge for an honest review. I enjoyed this, it was fairly smooth flowing and narrated well . only issue I have at all with the series has been the titles end up having very little to do with the book. enjoyable YA book.

A great follow up to book 1

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily
left this review.

I was delighted to find more background on the dragons and the author seems to have really found her way with the characters, world building and story. The narrator continues to do a great job on the narration. I am definitely looking forward to continuing the series.

Further Dragon Adventures

I have to say, I love this series. I don't know if it's just a fascination with dragons, or a need to know what is going to happen next, I have to keep listening to these books. I have actually listened to this book twice since I enjoyed it.

In this book, we are learning more about what it means to be both a dragon and a dragon friend. In the book, the true meaning of what it means to be family shows through. I definitely recommend picking up the first book in this series before listening to this book. If you enjoyed this book, it is more of the fun adventures of our dragon and dragon friends... aka, get this one too! ;)

Touching, Action packed, Exciting!

Dragon Dream
The First Dragon Rider
By: Ava Richardson
Narrated by: Tiffany Williams
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
I loved this book and wasn't lost even though it was a book 2. It felt as though it was just starting. I love dragon stories and this was exceptional. It was touching, suspense-filled, action packed, full of heroic deeds from those you wouldn't expect, good vs evil, and a story that could be read and loved by teens and adults.
The narrator was perfect for this book. I was surprised when she did the gruff bull dragon and did it perfectly! Wow! I thought maybe there were two actors. She did all the sounds and voices wonderfully!

Draconus Order...interesting

I have not listened to the book prior to this one. Although I have some questions, I was still able to have a basic understanding of the background to this story. This is not a stand alone story, yet it is a complete segment of the overall tale.
The main character Char is the daughter of the King in the North. Things are not too stable in the North due to a conflict involving claims to the throne. Char has been sent south to a monastery by her father. It is a school run by the Draconus Order and she is being trained in magic. Not all the students learn magic. There are other paths of study. The monastery is near a mountain that is the home of some dragons that are under the control of a very old dragon named Zaxx. We learn Char has bonded with a dragon and her friend Neill has astonished everyone by riding this dragon. They now embark on a quest/adventure in an attempt to defeat the overbearing, cruel Zaxx. In doing this, they also learn a disturbing truth about the crown they seek.

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author. I’d love to read/listen to more in this series. It is a very enjoyable tale in

The narrator did great with this book. She had individual voices for all the characters, and I enjoyed the voices she did for the dragons. She brought out the adventure in the tale

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

OMG, so good!

I started listening to this, but by the 10 minute mark I realized I'd mixed this series up with another first dragon rider series and I had no clue what was going on. I purchased and listened to book one before starting this one again.

I an so glad I asked for this book by mistake, this series is so good and I'm definitely going to get the final book in the trilogy as well as checking out what other books Ava has written, I'm hooked!

The world building is first class, I could picture everything in my head and the characters are also beautifully created. The story is complex and there are many twists that left me wondering how I'd missed the signs, because there were always signs.

Creative, well executed, and thrilling, if you're a dragon lover, this series is for you.

The narration is excellent, there are lots of character voices and they're all well done, the delivery is dynamic and conveys the emotions of the characters nicely.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

interesting - 2

A great continuation to the saga where we join Char being called home, and Niell follows with Paxala. Nothing goes as planned, and the revelations are more sinister than expected. Working together and a few unexpected allies they manage to escape after Char refusing to bow to her Father's demands and return to the Dragon Mountain where the biggest battle in the story happens. Quite an adventure that I think many listeners, young or old would enjoy. Looking forward to find out what is next.

Again, Ms. Williams' voice and the story-telling style she uses made for an enjoyable listening experience.

couldn't finish

I liked the narrator. This had potential I thought in the first book, but OMG everyone is fundamentally dumb. You know those horror stories of someone who enters a polar bear exhibit at a zoo, or lion exhibit, or whatever. Yea for whatever reason these dummies do and for "reasons" they walk away. They should've left the monastery after the 1st book, but retardedly stay because of "reasons", they know what the deal is with certain characters, but stay under their thumb for "reasons". They succeed because the plot needs the to succeed. And oh my God Char is the most whiny bitch character. treats Neil likes like a bumbling oaf, and turns her nose up at him when he "helps" but she doesn't need it, then whines that she is causing all the problems, and then gets whiney when the dragon has to step in to fight. you spent 2 years with this dragon and you are still trying to impose your morals on her? Bur some people seem to lie this, more power to you.
